So i tried to recreate MacOS Monterey graphic wallpaper, what do you think?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 03:57 AM PDT

Hope it’s ok to post smth like this here; also I apologize if this has already been asked. But I was cleaning due to the suspicion of malware and just discovered these two “files” (if that’s what you’d call them). Can malware hide in these? If so how can I remove and replace them?

16" Intel i9 Macbook vs. M1 for Minecraft and OBS - Should I Switch?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 12:52 AM PDT

    Hello!

What will perform better for streaming and recording Minecraft videos, the 2.4 ghz 8-core Intel i9 and AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB GPU found in the 16-inch 2019 MacBook Pro, or the M1 8-core chip and 8-core integrated graphics GPU in the Mac Mini? I plan on recording Minecraft videos or streaming while doing Minecraft PVP at the same time, so I cannot have sub-60 FPS, unlike others who play casual Minecraft such as survival singleplayer. Will thermal throttle be a factor that limits the Intel MacBook, and will the dual 4k monitors be a factor that limits the M1?

I currently own the 16 inch 2019 MacBook Pro ($2840), and was wondering if I should switch to a M1 16 gb Mac Mini + M1 Base Model MBA setup.

Because of the Apple Silicon transition, I was wondering if should bite the resale value loss right now of $300-$1000 by selling the Intel Mac or run the risk of Apple randomly stopping support in 2023/2024 instead of 2026/2027, and then I am stuck in limbo where I won't get software support but I have to keep it and use it until it gets hardware faults / is too slow or sell it for like 200 or 300 bucks. Is that price of $300-$1000 justifiable?

    Here are my system requirements:

    1. a capable machine that can run for PVP and fast paced action purposes such as factions, Wynncraft, etc., not for casual player purposes like playing singleplayer survival. I will not play any other games, just minecraft and schoolwork / productivity
    2. interested in recording and streaming gameplay, so I'd hope that I could get 60+ frames at a minimum while playing with recording software without having to set render distance to 2 or something ridiculous
    3. I'm going to be powering 2 4k dual monitors.
    4. I bought my intel device in 2020 and hope to use it till 2026 ideally but because of the Intel --> Silicon transition up until 2022, Intel end of life might be anywhere between 2023 and onwards. Intel will lose value massively as more silicon products get released over time, so it's either sell intel right now or don't sell it at all, just keep until the device has hardware issues or gets too slow to use for everyday purposes
    5. I am not interested in switching to Windows or Linux systems, I am only interested in purchasing an Apple device.

TL;DR: Will the 16" i9 MacBook outperform the M1 devices? Is the switch from Intel to Mac ASAP before the resale values crater even more justifiable by taking a several hundred dollar loss in resale value? For my needs of solely Minecraft streaming / recording + schoolwork + 2 4k monitors, which setup is better? I am not interested in using Windows / Linux, I will be sticking to Apple products only!

Are you still having no video signal issues with external monitors with Macs' Big Sur v11?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 09:16 PM PDT

    Hello.

My client and I use an AUKEY's 12 in 1 USB-C hub (https://www.aukey.com/collections/hubs/products/cb-c78-12-in-1-usb-c-hub)'s HDMI cable to an ASUS VA27DQSB 27" HD Monitor (https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VA27DQSB-Adaptive-Sync-DisplayPort-Frameless/dp/B08C63NR1V) with his 13" Intel MBP 2020. Once in a while, the external monitor has no video signal (100%, or it go back and forth (no signal and then signal) after waking up MBP so we either have to disconnect and reconnect the hub's USB-C and/or HDMI cable(s) to fix it. :(

Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon. :)

    Multi - monitor setup

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 01:04 AM PDT

Hi, I wanted some advice on how the 2019 macbook Pro handles multi- monitor setups. See I want to get my dad a third monitor as a gift. Currently he's using a 24inch 1080p monitor as a second display. I want to know if it would be possible to use an ultra wide monitor, or would the aspect ratio not work properly? I don't have a macbook on hand to test it. I hope my question makes sense!

    AirCloud Subfolder in Documents

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 12:46 AM PDT

What purpose does the AirCloud subfolder under Documents serve? It's always empty and untraceable; what's the point of it being there? What files go there if not manually put there?

Dragging files from Preview: How can I drag an open file into another app?

I used to be able to click on the little icon (marked by the arrow in attached screenshot) and drag the file into another app (e.g. browser).
Now, on MacOS 11.3.1, that icon is gone.

How can I drag the open file into another app?

How to use openconnect with proxy servers

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 12:25 AM PDT

I can connect to my workplace's VPN using openconnect from Terminal but I then can access only internal resources, I cannot access for example google.com or any external website. I tried setting up the proxy in Settings -> Network -> WiFi -> Advances but it still doesn't work. I do have an automatic proxy URL from my workplace. Do I need somehow to pass this proxy URL to openconnect instead?

Trying to upgrade my Mac air 2010

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 10:35 PM PDT

My Mac has almost the entire memory thing full in storage, so I'm trying to wipe the hard drive to clear space so I can download a newer update.

When I do the command r or command S thing when powering up, it takes me t a screen where it asks to boot Mac OS X, boot legacy, REfit, partitioning and something else .

Any other way to clear my disk space?

How to put a video or gif as wallpaper on macOS Big Sur?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 09:53 PM PDT

I tried GIFpaper but that did not work for me. Is it outdated? What else can I try, or does Big Sur just not support moving backgrounds?

Best web browser on MacBook pro m1

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 09:46 PM PDT

Hey!! I've just bought a MacBook Pro m1 and i wasn't sure what web browser use. I've seen some videos about safari being the best cause it's faster and doesn't take that many resources like chrome, also, I've seen and heard brave it's faster than safari but no that well optimized. I would love to hear some opinions. Atm I'm using safari and besides the limited extensions it's going pretty well. Ty for helping!

Should I install Big Sur on Macbook Air 13, mid 2013 ?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 04:01 PM PDT

    Detailed specs are:

    • Model: MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013)
    • Processor: 1,3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5
    • Memory: 4GB Ram

I use VSCode and Figma. Sometimes I open Affinity Photo.

Also lots of browsing and watching movies.

What about battery life, overheating and overall perfomance with Big Sur on this machine?

Dumb question: When did macOS get NTFS read support?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 03:57 PM PDT

I mean it at least looks like read only but I connected my Hard Drive in the past without seeing anything. Now I am looking at every single folder zipped and unzipped! I just checked the info of the HDD... IT IS NTFS. HOLY SHITE. WHY AM I FREAKING OUT ABOUT THIS?

    WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?

Pock not working on Big Sur?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 05:40 PM PDT

Hello! I recently downloaded the pock extension for my M1 MacBook Pro running macOS 11.4. When I launch it, the Touch Bar just says "Add widgets to pock" and doesn't let me add any of the default widgets that come with Pock; it just shows the normal macOS ones. Am I missing something?

Paths like /usr/bin, /usr/sbin are still being added to $PATH even without /etc/paths.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 01:43 PM PDT

Inside /etc/paths I have these paths:

    /usr/local/bin

    /usr/bin

    /bin

    /usr/sbin

    /sbin

and they are correctly added to my $PATH env var. However, even when I rename /etc/paths and start a new shell, the same paths are still added to my $PATH, albeit in a different order.

Where else could MacOS be setting these paths? Thanks
