    I've been on tvOS 15 since the first beta and spatial audio was working in everything including Netflix. Tried it today and now it no longer supports it, checked updated apps and sure enough there was a Netflix update that only said: "Improvements to player stability and performance." but all it did was block spatial audio.

    Maybe it's a bug but if not, why be this petty?

    Per title: I'm thinking of going this route. I've never heard a Homepod Mini's sound for myself, but from the reviews it seems like a great little speaker. Just curious to read some real-world first-hand accounts of this use case.

    LG C1: Airplay 2 superior to LG Apple TV app?

    For whatever reason, I can't get the TV to switch to HDR or DV mode when using the built-in Apple TV app. The information shows 4K and Dolby Vision support, but it plays back in SDR. If I play Apple TV from my phone using Airplay 2 the signal shows as 4k Dolby Vision. In this specific instance I was watching several Showtime shows.

    This issue seems to be specific to the Apple TV app as HDR and DV playback fine using the LG Amazon Prime and Netflix apps.

    The Airplay 2 playback looks incredible by the way...

    Apple tv 3rd gen stuck, cannot restore

    hi, my apple tv (3rd gen) got stuck in the flashing light (i think is recovery mode)
    it had happened before, i had already restored it a couple of times plugging it to my mac (big sur)

    but now i cannot do it. it gives me the Error 14 after the verification process
    i've already tried downloading the ispw file and choose it manually, doing it by the apple server, etc

    is this the time i'll have to say goodbye to my dear apple device?

    If you have an Apple TV 4k 2017, DO NOT buy the 2021 version

    So recently I purchased an Apple TV 4K 2021 coming from the 2017 version.

    My main 2 reasons for that purchase were to get rid of the Dolby Vision raised blacks and play 4K 60fps Dolby Vision content recorded from my iPhone 12 Pro.

    Also, even though I never had any complaints about the old remote, the new one is a nice bonus.

    For the DV raised blacks, it's fixed (although it was never a huge problem for me).

    For the 4K 60fps DV content, it's a complete mess.

    My Apple TV video setting are the recommended ones:

    • 4K SDR 60fps
    • Match Content ON
    • Match Frame Rate ON

    Now, in order to play 4K 60fps DV content recorded from your iPhone 12 Pro, you need to have the following settings:

    • 4K Dolby Vision 60fps
    • Match Content OFF
    • Match Frame Rate OFF

    Having the latter settings is just a complete mess. I don't want everything to be forced playing as Dolby Vision. It simply doesn't make sense.

    And I can't understand how Apple strongly advertises "High Frame Rate HDR" when it's so poorly implemented.

    So, in the end, I spent 199€ on an Apple TV 4K 2021 just to fix a minor problem.

    Unless Apple does something to be easier to play your iPhone 12 Pro DV content on your Apple TV, I would strongly recommend to NOT buy 2021 version if you have the 2017.

    Apple TV App: choose streaming service

    Hi!

    I recently allowed the Apple TV App to link to my other streaming service.

    Now every film this service allows me to watch can only be streamed using this service, however it has lower quality. Like, certain film has HD in my streaming service and 4K HDR in iTunes Store.

    The app won't even show me that iTunes variant has these characteristics. All I can do is scroll down and see that I can also buy this film in iTunes, but I don't see the details!

    If I search for a movie using search in the app, it will ALWAYS show me the result from the streaming service which it has inferior quality.

    I have already switched off the link to this app in the TV app settings (account menu by tapping on avatar icon on the top right), but it doesn't help! do I have to delete this app to avoid such problems?

    Does the Apple TV 4K 2017 have any kind of iCloud or activation lock? (Buying used)

    Spatial audio

    I downloaded the beta for the new tvOS 15, and I don't know how I missed that but spatial audio is coming to Apple TV, for all of you (myself included) who watch tv with AirPods. And it's still in beta but it's already great

    Kayo Airplay Audio

    No audio on Airplay

    Any help possible every app bar the Kayo app works in the following way successfully.

    • Apple TV - >HDMI to Projector
    • Airplay Audio > to Sonos

    So why does Kayo not send audio to Airplay? Is it a diff codec? Does the audio get attached to visual signal? Anyway to fix?

    Help getting HDR enabled on a Yamaha TSR-700 and Apple TV 4K

    I picked up a Yamaha TSR-700 receiver last week, and I can't seem to figure out how to get HDR out of the AppleTV, through the receiver, and to the TV. HDR mode on the AppleTV fails when I try to activate it.

    I'm using these Monoprice cables https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=42682 and when I directly connect the AppleTV to my 4k Samsung TV with one of these cables, HDR can be enabled, and it passes the signal without problem. When I route it through the TSR-700, trying to enable HDR mode fails, and it goes back to 4k/60 SDR mode.

    Video Signal Info shows HDMI 4K YCbCr 4:2:0 24bit. In the receiver, I've tried changing the HDMI Mode to alternate modes with no success. HDR is enabled on the TV.

    Any ideas on how to get this working?

    Google Play Purchases Won’t Play

    From YouTube, All the movies and shows purchased from the Play Store no longer play when in ATV4K. They work fine from the YouTube app on my TCL Roku. Anyone else having issues? Anyone have a solution? I've deleted and reinstalled the YT app, and reset the ATV4K.

    ESPN PiP: video pauses when I leave ESPN app

    Hi, I can get the ESPN app to get into the PiP small window but when I leave the ESPN app to put something on the big window the video pauses as soon as I leave the ESPN app. It will resume as soon as I get back into the ESPN app, but I can't seem to get it to play outside the ESPN app, thus defeating the purpose of PiP. Has another encountered this or worked around it?

    remote disconnected

    Is Apple TV superior to the native apps?

    I have an LG CX OLED and I have been using the native apps since I got it in December. However, I am noticing that things don't quite look their best in the Apple TV app or Disney Plus. Plus, I don't have access to HBO MAX. Is the Apple TV a worthy upgrade from the native tv apps? I like to have the best picture quality with Dolby Vision.

    How come a Prime Video subscription includes so many more third party titles than Apple TV+?

    Super new to TV-watching and Apple TV so I'm sorry for any stupid questions.

    I have Prime Video as part of Amazon Prime, and today I got an Apple TV box, which gave me 1 year of Apple TV+ for free.

    I was just comparing the catalog of the two and I noticed that Apple TV+ barely has any third party titles compared to Prime Video, even though both subscriptions are similarly priced.

    For example, Prime Video includes Kim's Convenience, Parks and Rec, Downton Abbey, and Schitt's Creek, but if you have Apple TV+, you would need to pay extra to watch those shows.

    Are Prime Video and Apple TV+ supposed to be two very different things, or is Apple TV+ just really lacking in terms of third party titles?

    Content restrictions, multi-user and parental controls

    I have a good understanding of iOS, macOS and iPadOS, but having recently purchased an AppleTV 4k, I seem to be lacking in understanding how to effectively setup tvOS for a family.

    I have an Apple One family subscription and my kids each have an iPad and their own HomePod mini, so I've setup parental controls for these, and all works as expected.

    After adding my family to the AppleTV, there are multiple issues:

    1. When either of my kids switch to their profiles, they can't play anything in Apple Music, even though I have an Apple One subscription and it works on their iPads and HomePod minis. They can see their content on AppleTV, but selecting play does nothing.
    2. Parental controls setup for the kids' iCloud accounts works with iOS, macOS and iPadOS but seem to have no effect on the Apple TV. It appears that restrictions have to be setup for the whole device. In this case, if my wife and I want to watch something more mature, are we expected to have to turn off restrictions each time we want to watch and remember to turn them back on after using the Apple TV, because we don't see anything other than kids content when restrictions are on.
    3. There appears to be nothing to stop the kids using mine and my wife's profiles. Since the device is always on and there's no way of logging out, a 6yr old, or 9yr old aren't going to think, I must change to my profile before selecting to watch something, or play something explicit.

    So, am I missing something, or is AppleTV clearly lacking as a device for a family and parental controls?
