Dear Apple: Please make 'Music' good looking again Posted: 27 Jul 2021 08:43 AM PDT Had to say it lol. The white-everything on Music, Safari etc. is just ugly in my opinion. OS X Lion-era I think had the best look for iTunes. Stop with this ridiculous flat whiteness please!! [link] [comments]

I am ~4 days into switching to Mac after over 10 years of Windows, ~7 of those as an IT pro. Posted: 27 Jul 2021 11:16 AM PDT Fair warning - there is nothing super interesting or noteworthy in here, just wanting to share the stoke. Been kind of wanting a change lately, really like a couple of Linux distros but need Lightroom functionality and already spend so much time on tech that I don't want to have to tinker to get software/hardware to work. I was designated the 'Mac guy' at work for a while, and the more time I've spent with it the more I've started to 'get it'. Had the opportunity for a free 2012 iMac 27", plugged an extra 16GB of RAM in there and have made the switch for my daily driver. I'm still figuring out some little idiosyncrasies but so far I am having a great time with it, it's not quite as fast as my custom windows machine but for having a mechanical drive it is really good. Tentatively ready to say that I'm a full convert for my daily function, keeping the big desktop for gaming. I just wanted to share my experience of refreshment with you guys, I know there's nothing really in here but I'm just excited I guess haha. PS: Mac is still cancer in an enterprise/mixed domain environment and I am so glad that we recently stopped approving MacBooks. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Jul 2021 02:35 AM PDT Without a doubt, a tablet could NEVER replace a full-fledged PC. (Unless all you do is type emails, and browse the web.. period) I own a MacBook Air M1 and an iPad Pro. Let me explain why I use the mac 95% of the time over the ipad. I will list things from the top of my head atm: Mac versions of apps are a million times better than ipad versions not to mention the damn advertisements in free apps on ipados. Mac versions provide a better UI, more functionality and are generally more practical. You cant run youtube in background on ipad, cant play some games while listening to music at the same time. iPadOS can never come close to macOS in terms of multi-tasking like shit you can open an infinite amount of tabs, windows and multiple applications and display them all at once with proper sound playing from each window. A proper use-case would be listening to spotify at low vol while playing a game of dota 2 and streaming the gameplay on youtube while watching a twitch streamer on a second monitor. (if you want more control on the sound coming from the mac you can adjust volume of each app, set custom equalisers and also make the sound much louder. app is called "boom 3d" it is a definite must-have) There are a million more customisation options on macOS as compared to iPadOS. Use 3rd party apps or terminal to install homebrew or simply use commands on terminal to change specific things. You can screen record zoom meetings with sound on a mac working july 2021 xD Apps like final cut pro, after effects, adobe suite etc simply arent available on the ipad. You can run windows on a mac using bootcamp or parallels therefore you can use any windows program including games on a mac! let me mention the terrible apps on ipados again lol macbook has a bigger and more practical screen size for productivity. If an ipad with the keyboard is the same price to a mac then why get an ipad? The multitasking alone is the single reason i prefer MacOS over iPadOS. The thousand extra features on a mac are just extras that are incredibly useful on a day-to-day basis. I really dont get why many people on youtube talk about using an ipad as a laptop replacement. I could never see myself picking an ipad over a macbook. Doesnt matter how cheap of a laptop you get, it will be tons better than an iPad. Honestly cant think of a single advantage of having an iPad over a MacBook. The only case that makes sense to me is if you already have a desktop workstation with a proper pc at home and you can get by with only an ipad while youre away. Feel free to share your opinions. Cheers! [link] [comments]

Is there any way to change the 'Enter Full Screen' animation? Posted: 27 Jul 2021 08:11 PM PDT This might sound stupid, but can I change this animation? I hate it and it always makes me cringe a little every time it happens. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jul 2021 01:54 PM PDT I know it's a potentially controversial subject, but with Apple All In on M1, I imagine we may reach a point where the writing is on the wall and developers would only be releasing M1 versions of software so they don't have to do twice the work for only a few people who still have Intel Macs. Perhaps I'm wrong? I'd like to be, given that I own a quite new 2020 intel mac 🤣 To be clear, I'm thinking like, 2028-2029? Sounds about right. Any thoughts on the subject? [link] [comments]
No display on 4,1 Mac Pro with Radeon HD 7870 Posted: 27 Jul 2021 12:34 PM PDT Yesterday I installed a radeon HD 7870 in my 2009 Mac Pro after recieving the cable I needed in the mail. I cannot get a display output from it on Catalina, Big Sur, or Mountain Lion. Everything works fine with my GT 120 though (I have tested the HD 7870 with the GT 120 both in & out of the system). What could the problem be? I know the card works because I tested it in my Windows PC and it worked fine. Thanks [link] [comments]

Need help xferring files from an iMac to a M1 Mac Mini - not migrating users! Posted: 27 Jul 2021 06:24 PM PDT I need some help. I have an iMac (late 2012) running catalina and I'm moving to a new M1 Mac Mini running big sur. On the old machine there were several users whose data I want to keep but not migrate the users. I will be the only user on the new machine. I know I can move files from machine to machine via airdrop or some other utilities. But even though I am admin on the old mac I can't get access to the other users' data. I know I'm just missing something but I can't think of what it is. If I went into Unix in the background and su'd to root I'd be able to do that, but I just can't recall that password. I've tried changing the password on the other user accounts and logging in that way, but it acts as if I'm a brand new user on the old machine. Suggestions? [link] [comments]

Do you know of any cloud backup software that will backup files added to the desktop? (OSX) Posted: 27 Jul 2021 04:53 PM PDT I switched over from Windows to a 2019 iMac for my business. I have a OneDrive account, and I love OneDrive for a number of reasons, but it's fatal flaw is that it won't automatically sync files I add to the desktop of my iMac. I'm constantly adding folders there, and dropping imagery, etc... so I need some sort of cloud based software that will automatically sync things as they are added to the desktop. Restoring files from an external Ntfs HDD Posted: 27 Jul 2021 04:31 PM PDT Hi I'm trying to recover some photos off an ntfs drive that is bootable with windows. When plugging it in it won't mount (gives option to initialize eject or ignore). I've tried various diskutil commands but it hasn't helped. A revealing thing was that it has an mbr which prevented it from mounting. I tried paragon which also didn't allow mounting. I also installed Macfuse but that hasn't allowed it to be read. I tried fstab but it doesn't seem to do anything. Any ideas? Thanks Edit: m1 MacBook Air is what im using. So …Big Sur. [link] [comments]
Does a Windows alternative to Cheatsheet exist? Posted: 27 Jul 2021 04:18 PM PDT Hi everyone, after months of trying to move over to a Mac workflow, i've tossed in the towel and will be moving to Windows. I like using my personal laptops for work, and given that theyre heavy users of the Microsoft suite of tools, I was struggling (especially when having to operate large visio and project files). A really good part of my journey was learning all the different things that make MacOS great! One of those things was a program called Cheatsheet, where if you hold down the CMD key, it would bring up a list of all keyboard shortcuts associated with the software you had open at the time. Does anyone know if a Windows alternative exists? I'd also be interested to hear some other alternatives to popular programs (such as BetterTouchTools). Thank you! [link] [comments]
Look up words with Force Touch Posted: 27 Jul 2021 03:37 PM PDT Good evening guys! I'm facing a problem on my MacBook Pro late 2016 (no Touch Bar) lately: I cannot look up words using Force Touch trackpad anymore. I feel the "double" click from the trackpad but the window doesn't show up anymore, I have to go through the right click. Anybody having the same issue? [link] [comments]
