It is appalling how many garbage children games there are in the app store

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 11:09 AM PDT

I came here to ask for some recommendations but also want to vent. It is disgusting how super low quality most of these games in the app store are and some of them show ad after ad before they even let you play anything. As a gamer myself I just cant believe the degradation of modern gaming especially for children. Some of these ads are not even appropriate for kids...

The only games I found that deserve my recommendation are the Sago Mini games such as World and School. If you look into the developer you will learn they are making these games with care, consideration and love. Definitely worth the subscription cost in my opinion.

Does anyone know of any similar developers? There must be some hidden gems like Sago in the sea of garbage...

    Thank you.

A Large Survey of 4x & Grand Strategy Games

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 03:22 PM PDT

I've previously shared parts off this list here before and received some pretty good suggestions for some similar games (included here) that I haven't played yet, so if something feels off, let me know!
I have played many of these in the past and can speak for quality, though with all the iOS upgrades since this list started some of these titles may be suffering from neglect, please check recent reviews for stability status. Otherwise, most of these offer that "One More Turn" feeling Sid left us expecting from our 'complicated' gaming experiences. Hope this helps, enjoy!

A 'Grand Strategy Game' is one which allows players to employ a nation/empires' resources with a 'Grand Strategy' / a long term strategy or military tactics in mind.

On the other hand, 4X Strategy games involve players controlling nations or empires to 'eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate'. Emphasis is placed upon economic and technological development, as well as a range of non-military routes to supremacy.

Some of these are pretty lite (think Risk) when it comes to the 'Grand' part, but still deep and interesting enough that they are worth a look.

DualShock 4 shows as Xbox controller

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 09:58 AM PDT

My new DualShock 4 controller which I haven't even paired with my PS4 shows as an Xbox Controller in the game that I play. Had this happened to anyone else? Did I buy a fake DS4? Please help.

    P.S: My PS4 is at my friend's place that's why I didn't pair it.

    Controller Support

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 10:39 AM PDT

Does anybody know why some games don't show the controller support banner on the App Store even though they do support controllers? It's really bad for discoverability.

Wanted your opinions and preferences on graphics for mobile games.

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 02:51 PM PDT

Finalizing some ideas with some friends for a game we plan to do, hoping you guys can give your thoughts on the following questions. Answer as few or as many as you'd like. All answers appreciated!

What is your preferred graphic style: Blocky (ie Minecraft), Low Poly, Somewhere in the Middle, or Realistic.

Do graphics influence the types of games you play?

Has a certain style kept you from trying a new game?

Has a certain style gotten you to try a new game?

Do wish there was more of a certain style of game available on the Play Store?

    A few questions about Terraria

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 03:03 PM PDT

I am looking into buying it and had a couple questions.

How are the mobile controls? I have a lot of experience with Stardew Valley and from what I have seen it seems similar.

How overwhelming is it at the start? I hate games that have 619,729,674 things that it tells you to do at the beginning. I like how Stardew Valley introduces stuff slowly at the beginning.

How enjoyable is the game for a causal player? Do I need to study the wiki and learn all the crafting and stuff like that in order to enjoy the game? If it is enjoyable on the casual side, I am more inclined to get it.

Any IAPs or premium content to purchase?

Looking for an old word game / RPG hybrid

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 06:07 PM PDT

Almost 10 years ago I played a word game that was like scrabble with RPG elements. It was called something like "tower of Babel", but I can't find it when I search that.

I remember clearing dungeons or fighting enemies I think, by spelling words.

The neat thing was that there was a meta layer where you could upgrade/unlock your scrabble tiles and place them on a huge scrabble board, outside of the battles. So over time your scrabble board would grow as you added to it.

I think the theme was middle eastern or Egyptian… something like that.

    Anyone remember it?
