New MacBook Pro 2020 battery abysmal... Posted: 03 Jul 2021 08:41 AM PDT I recently bought a very expensive 2020 MacBook Pro with pretty top specs on it so that I could move away from my old 2013 one which had a very poor battery life due to a lot of use. I'm using it mainly for music production and general use. I've had it for about 3 weeks now. This new 2020 version's battery life is pitiful. Probably around 3-5 hours, not much more than my old one with the dying battery. Even when I use it for basic things like an hour long zoom call it can go down by about 20%. On too of this if I use it for music production, even on very small projects it turns the temperature of the sun and the battery drains at a ridiculous rate. I'm so disappointed. It cost me about £3,500. Should I contact apple support or is there something I can do? Thanks [link] [comments]
New MacBook user, could use some help getting started. Posted: 02 Jul 2021 07:51 PM PDT Hello, I just got my M1 MBA today and just got done setting it up. Outside of my phone and tablets, I've been only using Windows OS so I'm not sure where/what I should do or get from here. I'll be using this device mainly for school work and lab work while I'm away from my home office or my lab workstation. My lab work will have me remote accessing my workstation and performing some cursory BASH programming and execution, so will need a recommendation on a program for that. As for schoolwork, I'll be primarily pulling up notes I've taken on my tablet and a lot of heavy writing, powerpoint presentations, and excel processing. I don't know if there's any recommended programs for MacOS or should I look into getting the windows suite? And for general usage, are there any free Adblock extensions like uBlock origin for chrome for web browsing in Safari? Do I browse YouTube on safari or is there an app I can download? Any misc recommended programs I should look into for management of the device? [link] [comments]
I can't believe I have to download iCloud file-by-file, one-by-one Posted: 03 Jul 2021 11:09 AM PDT I just assumed iCloud worked like Google Drive and I could download whole folders. I recently got a new MBP and traded in an old one, and put all my stuff on iCloud. Including folders with nested subfolders with nested subfolders etc--including coding projects with hundreds of files! Can I seriously not download any of it now? I'll never again be able to run those applications I built if I only put them in iCloud, unless I'm willing to download each file one by one? This is insane. /rant [link] [comments]
Is 256 GB and 8 GB RAM on a macbook air enough for a high school student? Posted: 03 Jul 2021 04:38 AM PDT I'll mainly use it for web browsing, research, writing papers, presentations, streaming and some basic Python. Probably will use it for the next 4-5 years. Will it be enough? Edit: Thanks guys! Went ahead with the MBA 2020 with these specifications [link] [comments]

Strange noise on macbook air m1 Posted: 03 Jul 2021 07:34 AM PDT Hello, since I bought my macbook air m1, the speakers make a kind of sound explosion, very slight, almost imperceptible, it seems something like interference, it happens when a page is finished loading in safari or a video is about to start, also when This is about to start an audio, it is a fairly audible beep but it happens only for a second and the audio continues normal, it also happens to me when I connect my headphones so I do not think it is the speakers, is this normal? Posted: 03 Jul 2021 06:44 AM PDT I got my MacBook Air this week, and I'm having some issues with the startup sound. Everytime I uncheck "Play sound on startup", it would undo it. Does anybody know how to fix this problem? [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jul 2021 06:09 AM PDT Hi guys! I just got the base model MacBook Air. The thing is I'm new to macOS and MacBooks so I don't know much about it. I've checked the speakers, keyboard, headphone jack, camera, the two ports, Bluetooth and WiFi. Am I missing out on anything else? Also any tips or suggestions for someone who just shifted from windows? One last thing I have a harddisk and it's in NTFS format. I can't transfer stuff from the harddisk to the MacBook but not the other way around. I know I've to format to change it to EXFAT but I can't afford to format it. Is there any other way for me to use this harddisk? [link] [comments]
MacBook making a very weird noise. Can’t find anything similar to it online. Posted: 03 Jul 2021 01:03 AM PDT My MacBook started to randomly make this very weird noise. Maybe it's the fans, I'm not really sure? Any insight is very helpful! [link] [comments]
5 hour battery life on my MacBook air 2018 Posted: 02 Jul 2021 03:34 PM PDT Since apple replaced my bottom part of my macbook/since the macOS, my battery drains so quick. It says 5 hour time while browsing safari. Is this normal? I already checked my cpu usage. At the apple reseller they tested it today, and the condition of the hardware and battery was really good. Also less than <110 cycles. Is there anything else Apple or me could be overseeing, or is this just normal? On the positive, I do find my MacBook a lot faster than when I bought him. Suggestions highly appreciated! [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Jul 2021 11:53 AM PDT Hey, I've had an XPS 13 9350 for 5 years now, and it has these rubber strip feet, which are quite grippy and doesn't slip at all. Do you have a good recommendation for a DIY or premade solution? (Preferably for sale on AliExpress and/or with international shipping?) [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Jul 2021 05:12 PM PDT Hi, when you are doing a trade-in at the Apple store, do they take the value of your trade-in off the pre-tax price of the item you are buying, or the post-tax? The reason why I am asking is because I am thinking of trading in my 2017 Pro for the M1 Air. I am thinking of doing them in separate transactions, first getting a gift card for my Pro, then going to go purchase the Air. The reason why I want to do this is because I don't want to do both at the same time because I'd have to go to the store to purchase the Air and they will require proof that I am a student for the discount (I am a student, but I don't have ID card and I can't go get one right now). But I recall someone saying that if you do the trade-in in person, they take the trade-in value off the pre-tax purchase price, which saves you some $$$. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Jul 2021 09:51 AM PDT Trying to pick up a new MacBook before the school year starts. I am switching from a ASUS laptop and not sure which one is better to buy. Not looking to do anything fancy really, just classwork! [link] [comments]
Macbook uses too much power for the battery to stop draining Posted: 02 Jul 2021 11:42 AM PDT Hi, my Mac is at 5% to 8% power when I start it and then it keeps going down. It says that it is not charging and running off the power supply. The computer slowly drains and then turns off. The computer says that the battery is fine. I have it attached to a Thunderbolt 3 dock with power for power. It used to work fine. It is a 15-inch MacBook Pro from 2019. It is running Macos 10.15.7 Catalina. (It won't accept the Big Sur update for whatever reason.) Is there anything I can do or any way to check what the problem is? It is especially difficult to investigate the problem because I can't keep the computer on. If I started it on a Linux USB, would there be a way to investigate the problem more? MacBook Air 13 2017 Wifi Problems Posted: 02 Jul 2021 10:17 AM PDT Hello guys. Sorry for my bad english in advance. I have some serious problems with the MacBook Air 13 2017 i purchased a week ago. When I try to connect to my home WIFI, the MacBook freezes or slows down (Kernel Task at over 100%) and won´t let me use it for 2 minutes ending with the message "Cant connect to XXX-Wifi". It works fine with a hotspot from any phone or the Thunderbold Ethernet Adapter, this behavior also exists WITHOUT even installing OS X. Also I did a fresh install with a USB-stick from the start, reseted the PRAM and SMC and deleted the pref-lists. I changed my Wifi from one SSID to a 2,4 GHz and a 5Ghz SSID, which worked for like a day, but the problem came back. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Jul 2021 08:48 AM PDT Hello, my laptop just broke and I'm considering the current macbook air m1. I will mainly use it for programming. So my question is: should I buy now or find another solution till new macbooks release? Also does docker work on m1 chips? [link] [comments]

Buying a used MBP M1. How to check for Activation Lock? Posted: 02 Jul 2021 07:47 AM PDT Hi everyone! I would like to get into the MBP community and I want to start off buying a used MBP. After researching, it seems like some people are able to use a used MBP until an OS update where they find there is an Activation Lock on it. Is there any way to check before purchasing one? Thank you! [link] [comments]
MacBook not downloading the os? Posted: 02 Jul 2021 07:26 AM PDT My MacBook Pro m1 2020 is not downloading the Mac OS big sur After I reserved it by removing the MacBook from my icloud, all data was erased and it went into recovery mode. From there, I tried to download the os but I couldn't, because my internal ssd isn't appearing. I did what the internet said and tried to restore and erase the ssd but it kept saying fail because it couldn't be unmounted or something. I ran first aid on it and said my ssd was all fine? What do I do now??? I really need help as I need to complete my video editing assignments asap [link] [comments] |
