Is the Apple TV 4K right for me? Posted: 30 Jun 2021 07:01 AM PDT I recently upgraded my living room with a LGGX and the Samsung Q950A soundbar with atmos and dts support (yes I know it isn't true atmos/dts, but it really is good enough for me and it provided the cleanest environment in my situation). However, now I'm trying to figure out what streaming box to get for myself. I run a Plex Server with blu ray rips containing Atmos and DTS, and would like to make sure I can actually play/hear this content before I go out and buy an Apple TV. I understand Infuse exists, but will that properly play DTS content in all the correct channels and such? My other option is the NVIDIA Shield which I heard has a buggy experience. Thank you for your guys' help. [link] [comments]

Poll: Most wanted missing tvOS 15 feature? Posted: 29 Jun 2021 11:38 AM PDT tvOS 15 came and went with welcomed but somewhat underwhelming new features:
Whenever Apple releases new Apple TV hardware, which admittedly is pretty rare, Apple adds few unfinished features later on. For instance, tvOS 11.2 added match dynamic range and match frame rate. Apple TV 4K (2nd generation)'s HDMI 2.1 is conspicuously under utilized. Likewise, on device Siri (requires A12 or better which it now has) should be ported to tvOS. Jog control is one of the most misunderstood features, because it only works on few apps. While A12 cannot natively decode AV1, perhaps with the help of internal fan, it can be made to decode AV1? Just about every new set top boxes support AV1 and YouTube TV just announced AV1 is required for 4K. Apple services tend to be updated continuously, so perhaps multi-user support to the Fitness+ app? Posted: 29 Jun 2021 09:32 PM PDT I'll be getting a 2021 lg oled, the new 2021 4k Apple TV and a synology DS720+. Would I need anything else to be able to play back x265 4k content from the synology? Is there a better option? Any advice is greatly appreciated [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Jun 2021 07:25 PM PDT Last year I purchased seasons 1-3 of Rick and Morty in a bundle pack. Now I can't watch them on my Apple TV because the bundle no longer exists. If I want to watch the episodes I already purchased on my Apple TV, I have to purchase them again either individually, purchase the new bundle, purchase each episode individually, or Airplay them to my Apple TV. (None of which I should have to do. I already bought them!) After hours on the phone with Apple and transferred from iTunes billing to a senior advisor to Apple TV tech support and back to iTunes billing and back again to a senior advisor, they finally put in a ticket to the engineering team for a resolution (maybe next week). So fair warning, don't ever buy a season bundle for an ongoing show through iTunes. If they ever pull it from iTunes (even if the show still exists) you can't watch it directly through iTunes on your Apple TV. [link] [comments]

Volume changing on its own between apps? Posted: 30 Jun 2021 12:27 AM PDT So here's my setup:
Every time I switch between apps, the Apple TV turns its own volume down to about 30%, which means whenever I switch apps, I have to manually increase volume back to around 80%, where I need it. However, sometimes this means that I switch apps, and in the new app, the volume gets set to 100%. It's not even consistent. The volume adjustment happens at least twice every time I exit or enter an app. Also sometimes randomly during play it will adjust down 10% or so. Or suddenly back up to 100%. I have to figure this is some kind of thing where the device is trying to remember where volume was set last time the app was open, but for that to be true, it would be holding the settings, and not arbitrarily setting it to 30% or 40% or 100% or whatever the hell it feels like. I've looked through all the settings, and as far as I can tell, there isn't anything like "Auto Adjust Volume" that I've seen... Am I missing something? Is this a functionality of the device, or is it possible my soundbar is confusing the Apple TV? Note that I'm changing the volume on the Siri Remote, not on the soundbar itself, but the result seems to be the same regardless. Any ideas? Thanks guys. [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Jun 2021 06:15 PM PDT I have a 2017 ATV and am wondering if I'm missing out on better content by not having the new ATV. I watch content on Apple TV+, Disney+, Amazon, and Vudu. I'm willing to buy the new ATV if it means better video quality [link] [comments]
Unable to cast HBO Max from my Macbook to my Apple TV Posted: 29 Jun 2021 05:35 PM PDT I have a MacBook Air 2017 Intel and an Apple TV 3rd Gen and I live in Brazil, where HBO Max has just launched. I can cast HBO from my IPhone to my AppleTV but there is no such option when I access the hbomax.com website from my MacBook. What could possibly be the problem? [link] [comments]

Which apps have live TV (with cable tv login credentials)? Posted: 29 Jun 2021 07:17 PM PDT I'm thinking about getting an Apple TV but was wondering which apps have live TV if you login with, say, the credentials of an Xfinity account that gets cable TV. I'm not referring to things like Youtube TV or Sling TV. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Apple TV 4K (1st Gen) - No longer outputting video/audio. Posted: 29 Jun 2021 12:55 PM PDT Apple TV 4K (1st Gen) is no longer outputting video or sound. My TV doesn't even recognize the input any longer. I called support and they told me that it's likely a hardware issue that will require a repair at about $166. [link] [comments]
New appletv apps from apple id Posted: 29 Jun 2021 12:17 PM PDT If I decide to buy a second appletv and login with my apple-id, which I already had on another appletv, will I see the same apps on both or do I have to set up the new one again and download the apps again? [link] [comments]
Steam link on appletv edges cut off. Posted: 29 Jun 2021 03:15 PM PDT I have been playing steam on my appletv and it mostly works great. Every once awhile I get no sound, but I think that's more of an issue with the pc. However, when I play games, it looks like the edges of the games are cut off, so I can't read menus and other things that are close to the sides, and this is all the time. With the steam link hardware device there was an option to move the corners to fix this, but I am going crazy trying to find an option on the appletv app that does this. Anyone had this and was able to fix it? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Bandwidth usage using an AppleTV box VS a PC? Posted: 29 Jun 2021 08:30 AM PDT I have a metered internet connection. To answer the basics: no, I cannot change/upgrade provider, we're trapped in a monopoly in northern Yukon and I'm paying for the maximum service Northwestel offers for my area: 300gb/month for $150. Yes, it royally sucks. I pay for two of these internet lines (so $300/month) just so my family of 4 can have semi useable internet, 2 people per line, and we watch data like a hawk. Anyways. We watch the usual streaming occasionally, Netflix, Disney+, etc (all on standard, obviously), and I was wondering about the AppleTV box. The physical box itself, since from what I read it has all of the apps built in, and I can download/play my iPad games on it. But when I talked to a salesman in a Whitehorse store (where they get unlimited internet), he said that AppleTV "uses too much bandwidth for me". …is this true? Like.. I thought you can set it to standard playback like most other things? I wasn't asking about the new 4K model, just that new base model that came out. Does it really stream that much differently than a PC or a smart TV does? Does it really eat way more bandwidth than a PC doing the same job??? If so, how? I don't understand and I couldn't find anything that could clarify that for me. I'm really interested in one (or two), especially for my mother because she's really gotten into this one Netflix series and it's hard for her to sit at her tiny laptop to watch it. I'd love to get an AppleTV to hook Netflix up to her big tv to make it easier for her. Yeah I can do the whole connect the laptop to the TV but… you know how much of an annoyance that is. TLDR: Does AppleTV use more bandwidth than a PC, is so, why? Thanks for reading! [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Jun 2021 11:43 AM PDT I'm at a hotel and their WiFi requires a sign in on a web browser. The issue is on my Apple TV, you can't sign because there is no web browser. So I'm trying to get my MAC address on my computer changed to 4c:ab:4f:89:a9:cb (my Apple TV's mac address) so I can sign in. But when I do this I get an error saying "SIOCSIFHWADDR: Cannot assign requested address" I also have boot camp installed on my Mac so I went over to windows to try the same thing. I used a 3rd party application to do it. And I got another error saying it's an incorrect value. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
