MacBook Pro vs Ipad Pro + Mac Mini? Posted: 07 May 2021 10:33 PM PDT Hi, Planning to upgrade my setup in the near future and am debating between these 2 options. For context, I currently have a laptop that spends the majority (90%) of its time plugged into a monitor but occasionally whether I'm traveling or working away from home will be used as a laptop. Because of this, I was thinking that a desktop + tablet combo might make sense especially given the magic keyboard that would give me a touchpad, but comparing the price points it seems like I would be better off just getting the 13inch MacBook pro since the iPad pro with keyboard would only be ~$100 less and adding the mac mini would make that combo materially more expensive than getting a standalone MacBook pro. Would love to get a second opinion or additional thoughts/considerations from those who have considered this as well or who have done similar. For additional context typical usage would be: media (youtube, etc), email, web browsing, Microsoft suite, and gaming (LoL, Apex at normal settings) [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 May 2021 10:25 PM PDT I have been using the Macbook Air 16GB Space Grey for programming and it's been great so far, also the SSD wear is less than I saw in benchmarks and stuff, but all the dead M1 macbook stories scare me. I only use the included power charger and no external displays or even the USB ports, but I wonder if the M1 gets bricked randomly, will it be under Apple's limited warranty? [link] [comments]
Macbook crashing on screen share Posted: 07 May 2021 05:47 PM PDT I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018) i9 32gb and Radeon Pro Vega 20 and 99% of time I use it plugged on 2 external monitors 4k (LG and Samsung). EVERY TIME a share my screen using Google Chat or Microsoft Teams in any 4k monitor for while, my entire machine freezes and crash, forcing me to do a hard shutdown. It's very strange thing is when I open sublime text the crash happens on the same time. When I using Discord to share screen, there's no problem. Anyone is facing the same situation? Should I get a M1 MacBook for electrical engineering? Posted: 07 May 2021 09:26 PM PDT I've never really liked windows, and just recently the windows laptop I've been using broke and now I'm in the search of a new laptop. I love Macs over windows but my worry is that I'm not going to be able to run programs on the MacBook. I might be running MatLab, Python, Catia, LTSpice, and more. Can someone give me some help? Whatever laptop I get, it'll be 16GB ram. [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 May 2021 08:55 AM PDT Hello, I'll be starting my Master's degree in Computer Science this fall and I wanted a new laptop. I'll be doing quite a lot of Android App development, running Virtual Machines, a lot of machine learning, and neural network training too. Was wondering if 8GB would suffice or I should go for the 16GB variant. P.S.: I've never used Apple MacBooks before in my life [link] [comments]
Is it better for my battery to keep my laptop (m1 air) plugged in? Posted: 07 May 2021 02:09 PM PDT I mostly use it when sitting on the couch. Is it best to keep it plugged in? Thanks guys. [link] [comments]
Can't keep connection with my monitor and macbook air M1 Posted: 07 May 2021 01:21 PM PDT When I plug in my monitor(AOC CU34G2) using an HDMI cable and a docking station by Douxe it doesn't seem to do anything, the monitor says no signal. But when I go to system preferences> Displays a window pops up showing I connected to my monitor, then the window closes after a second and reopens. When I have my monitor plugged into my Macbook the MacBook slows down a lot bc it is constantly connecting and disconnecting to my monitor. Does anyone know how to fix this? Could this be problem with the difference in aspect ratio? [link] [comments]

M1 Macbook for .NET development Posted: 07 May 2021 05:11 AM PDT Hi everyone, My current Haswell Windows laptop is asking for a replacement and I've been thinking about jumping onto the macOS bandwagon. It would be used mostly at home for daily tasks (Web browsing, videos, documents etc) as well as polishing my development skills in dotnet. As far as I've read, it's certainly doable on M1, although I'd like to hear about some real life experiences about it. Secondly, I'm not sure what spec to get if I decide on a Macbook. I have no idea how resource consuming the OS is vs Windows. Will the basic 256GB/8GB spec be enough for some simple projects? I've got a Windows workstation for job related stuff, the Mac would be for personal use only. That being said, is it worth dishing out the additional money for a Pro, regarding the use cases I mentioned? Thanks for your help [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 May 2021 05:05 AM PDT I left my MBP in my car overnight and temperature outside was 43 degrees. The MBP was in a microfiber lined sleeve. Is that cold enough to cause any damage? [link] [comments]
mds and mds_stores running and noisy fans after OS update normal? Posted: 07 May 2021 04:58 AM PDT I read it has to do with spotlight search indexing, so I guess as I just updated it runs to re-index things? or should I turn off spotlight ? (sudo mdutil -a -i off) [link] [comments] |
