Does the phone dispel power in some way shape or form resulting in the loss of power under a point at which it will reach 100% by the designated time, or does it just reject the power until the designated time? If there is a 3rd option, it didn’t come to my mind.

AirTag "stalker detected mode", question on the alerts and locations. Posted: 03 May 2021 06:55 PM PDT I'm bit concerned on the AirTag's anti-stalking protections. Specifically, why does it wait until we are home to alert us? I understand it is to be sure we are in a safe location, but at the same time doesn't it give the stalker the location of our home? ELI5, since I'm missing a piece of the AirTags puzzle. Article: https://9to5mac.com/2021/04/30/airtag-stalking-protections/ [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 May 2021 09:10 PM PDT Details:
The Issue: For about the last week or so, almost every day at a different time, my Macbook will slow down immensely, so much so that I can barely open Activity Monitor to see what's going on (I did eventually check while this was happening, nothing suspicious happening with disk, CPU, or memory). As far as I can tell, there is absolutely no pattern to this. It happens at different times, different places, and when using different applications. I have run Apple Hardware Diagnostics, no reported issues. Disk Utility First Aid on both the disk and the individual containers, no issues found. The only thing I haven't checked is the console while this is happening, but I fear I won't be able to get anything useful out of it due to the lag. I literally cannot do anything, I can barely move the mouse. Please help me. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 May 2021 08:59 PM PDT It's a Macbook Pro Early 2011. It had High Sierra installed. The RAM slot started dying on it, causing constant crashing. I planned to give it to my parents to use for their internet browsing. So I wiped/reformatted it (still on the old logic board). I ordered a replacement logic board and planned to swap it out and figured it would be ready to go with the fresh reformat. Today I switched the logic board, and upon restart, I got the flashing folder. So I entered Disk Utility again and erased the drive again, preparing to reinstall the OS. After it was reformatted (on the new logic board this time), I selected Reinstall Mac OS X in the MAC OS X Utilities Window. It tries to install Mac OS X Lion, and asks for my Apple ID. Then it fails, saying "This Item is Temporarily Unavailable". Further attempts get nowhere. I've tried a friends Apple ID, same problem. I've restarted and used the different commands (Command +R, Command+Option+R, Command+Option+Shift+R). All of them start Internet Recovery, and all of them end with me looking at the same MAC OS X Utilities screen (With the Restore from Time Machine, Reinstall Mac OS, Get Help Online, and Disk Utility options). Get Help Online does nothing, since it cannot verify a security check. I've tried starting the Internet Recovery via Wifi and via an Ethernet cable. Both end with the same result (Reinstall Lion OS, which gives me the Temp Unavailable issue). After hours trying it. I reinstalled the old logic board, and it managed to not crash while I was trying to fix things. At first, it was doing the same thing. It kept downloading Mac OS Lion. After what seemed like a dozen attempts, the Internet Recovery option went through the usual downloading bar, and I ended up at the same Mac OS X Utilities window, only this time the "Reinstall Mac OS X" option said High Sierra instead of Lion. I was able to install the High Sierra back on the old logic board. I installed it. I switched the board out for the new one. Same the whole thing repeats. Flashing folder upon restart. Try to reinstall OS, but it keeps defaulting to the Lion OS. Tried doing Internet Recovery and it always defaults to Lion. [link] [comments] |

NEED ASSISTANCE! dropped iphone in toilet Posted: 03 May 2021 08:04 PM PDT Hi everyone, I would really appreciate some guidance right now as a panicked college student that has no money. About 30 mins ago I dropped my NEW iPhone 11 in the toilet for like one second before I swooped it up and started screaming. I honestly don't remember if it got fully submerged, but my toilet bowl isn't very deep. It seems okay, I wiped it with a cloth and put it in rice for like 10 mins but then read some stuff online saying that rice is pointless so I took it out. Only thing is my speakers sound kind of messed up and scratchy now (I tried playing some music). Im so scared the phone is screwed. Has this happened to anyone else? I know the phone is supposed to be water resistant but the fact that the speakers sound weird is freaking me out. What should I do? Repairs say its gonna be like $800...which is like half of my current funds. [link] [comments] |

Can't eject CD from an 2005 era iMac Posted: 03 May 2021 02:28 PM PDT Hello :-) I have an odd problem. I recently got an older iMac gifted, opened it, swapped the hdd for an Ssd and it starts up and works. However I inserted the wrong CD. I got 3 CDs with the Mac and instead of inserting disc 1 to reinstall the os I put in disc 2.. Now I understand there is a eject key on the keyboard but it does nothing. I've found the possibility to use a terminal command to eject but can't open the command line. Is there a way to eject that disc or do I have to install it via USB (if that's possible with this old Mac). Thanks in advance. :-) [link] [comments] |

How to erase App Store history? Posted: 03 May 2021 04:15 PM PDT Hello, I found out that you can "Hide" apps you've downloaded/purchased by going to App Store > Profile > Purchases > And then going to to either on this iPhone/not on this iPhone (I believe). And then you can swipe next to an app you want to "Hide" and it will disappear. 1.) What does hiding do? How is this different from deleting it from your app history? Where else will these apps show up? Is there any way to permanently delete my app history? Thank you very much! [link] [comments] |

macOS Airdrop to iOS resizes photos down Posted: 03 May 2021 04:40 PM PDT Anyone knows how to prevent macOS from resizing photos when sending them to iOS devices over Airdrop? From iOS, Share > Options > Include All Photos Data What's the equivalent in macOS? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 May 2021 08:24 PM PDT I know I can swap a lot of parts in the 2010-2012 era of the 13' Macbook Pro line. Is it easy to find spare parts or better yet new old stock? I know I can buy a bunch of half working to decent shape models off of electronic bay dot com but what about parts like the entire monitor/lid assembly and the battery? I finally did a logic board disassembly, cleaned and applied new thermal paste on my 10 year old senior citizen. A new charger is almost here after a year of not powering the device (no charge whatsoever, not even the indicator lights up) due to the original's cable tearing itself apart. In the future I'll swap the hdd for an ssd, replace the entire monitor assembly as mine has a few dead pixels and the aluminum has a tiny amount of bow making the tapered edges go up by a millimeter and perhaps buy a battery. I would buy the mid 2012 logic board but that's the least necessary upgrade albeit a newer cpu and usb 3.0 support is a very welcome improvement. Last option would be to buy the best condition 2012 model I can and swap the internals, I have a rare keyboard layout and most 2012 for sale are US or UK. [link] [comments] |

New machine - trying to move folders to the hard drive in Catalina 10.15.6 Posted: 03 May 2021 07:16 PM PDT For the last 20 years, the company I work for has had several key folders located in the main directory on the boot disc. Now I can't copy anything. With the necessary files on the desktop, I tried the following in Terminal: sudo cp -p Desktop/FILE / (That is a space before the last slash.) No luck. If I can't create these folders I am proper fucked. [link] [comments] |
