    Hey /r/Apple!

In an attempt to curb the number of threads about pre-order choices/configurations, shipping statuses, etc, we are asking that all discussion about it remain in here. We are setting the sort of this thread to new so that users receive the latest updates at the top of the thread when they open the comments.

    Now to the good stuff:

    • Color: White
    • Bluetooth
    • U1 chip that enables Ultra Wide Band and Precision Finding
    • NFC for Lost Mode
    • There's a speaker built-in
    • CR2032 battery installed, last up to a year. User replaceable
    • iOS/iPadOS 14.5 needed for compatibility

    Accessories:

I'm doing my best to keep this list updated with prices, and other options but I might miss some. If you find another accessory that should be added, PM me and I will add it.

Note: I'm linking Belkin's offering to the listings in the Apple Store, instead of Belkin's. That way you can take advantage of the 3% cash back with Apple Card as opposed to 1% or 2%. Not much, but whatever. If you wanna buy from Belkin's directly, you can do so at their store linked here

Note: NOMAD's offerings are available for purchase at Moment as well. The thing is that NOMAD's offerings are temporarily discounted at nomadgoods.com and not at Moment. Just letting you know in case you want to order from both Moment, and Nomad and want to do so in one order. Not sure who would do that considering there's no discount, but I'd thought you might want to know.

Simple solution for Apple to make the AirTags anti-theft devices without enabling stalkers.

    Posted: 23 Apr 2021 09:26 PM PDT

The Apple Watch has the hard fall feature which can automatically call emergency services and send them your coordinates. Knowing that this is possible, we could use it to stop both stalkers and thief's with the AirTags.

Scenario: Your AirTag has detected that it is moving away from you. It sends you an alert before notifying anyone that it is "following" them. Your alert gives you only two options:

    1. I am not trying to track someone: send the alert to the person with my tag. (The current anti-stalking design)

    2. My tagged property has been stolen, contact the authorities. (Police get the location data of your tag, and your contact information with a message informing them your property is being stolen.)

Depending on the purpose you use your tag for, you would chose which option is the default incase you don't respond to the alert in time. The default option will be forced if you don't provide input. (Maybe you're sleeping, phone dead, actually trying to stalk someone, etc.)

This would still make the AirTags safe from unwanted tracking, while also giving them the ability to effectively track stolen property.

I really was hoping to put one of these on my motorcycle to ease my anxiety of someone hauling it away in a pickup truck never to be seen again. But it seems it would be useless for that in its current state. I've seen tons of other Redditors here wanting to use them for anti-theft as well. What would it take to make an idea like this become a feature? Surely Apple realizes how much more they might sell if they advertise them for anti-theft too?

Edit: I'm glad you guys are challenging my "simple solution". I still really want these to be the answer for protecting my belongings and knowing where they are if stolen. What they are now just doesn't meet my needs. I thought it would be fun to entertain the possibility of them working that way.
