Recover files from external hdd with original names Posted: 02 Mar 2021 03:00 AM PST Hey guys, I'll try to make this as short as possible without leaving out important info. I will use Bold to highlight important info. First off, I have a MacBook Pro 2017, I'm on MacOs 10.15.6 and I have two external hdds. I will be referring to them as "1TB" (my older one - I used MS-DOS (FAT32)) and "2TB" (my newer one). I bought the 2TB back in November 2020 and used APFS format. I used the drive for everything that has to do with music and music production. So I transferred all related folders from 1TB to 2TB in November. Thank you in advance to anyone who will take the time to read this! I hope you all have an amazing day! Alex Troh [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Mar 2021 11:13 PM PST Hopefully this is the right place to post this. My mid 2012 Mac Pro 12 core 3.06 GHz with an NVIDIA Quadro K5000 won't install the next macOS beyond High Sierra. Even though the NVIDIA is on the metal list, the install won't do a firmware update. It just sits there and does nothing. I'd appreciate someone's feedback on how to fix this and/or buy a different graphics card. Thanks [link] [comments]
Do we have something similar to spacial audio in MacOS? Posted: 02 Mar 2021 02:53 AM PST I did some digging and found Razer Surround, Dobly Access, and even a built-in option baked into the operating system Windows Sonic. By digging even further I found a software HeSuVi completely free surround sound virtualisation having EQ profiles (say algorithms) of all the aforementioned solutions and more. Even the VLC app for windows has a headphone surround sound option while nothing like that exists for the Mac App. The only solution I found for Mac is BOOM 3D, which doesn't have good reviews and Hajo Headphone, which I can't even install (only for 10.7 to 10.13). Are there any other solutions currently or in active development? I was really disappointed to buy the AirPods Pro and discover that no software exists to replicate the feeling of spatial audio on Mac. I like to watch my movies on bigger screen :( [link] [comments]

Slow wifi download speed Macbook Air M1 Posted: 01 Mar 2021 11:58 PM PST I have this new Macbook Air M1 and while i was downloading a file from youtube i saw that the download speed was pretty meagre(5MBps). For reference i have a 300 Mbps connection and while doing speedtest i get around 280+Mbps on macbook. Its quite strange because if i download the same file on either my android or my other PC i get download at full capacity (30+ MBps). I have also checked by downloading through youtube-dl, downie, browser etc but no imporvement in download speed. [link] [comments]

Unable to set Usb drive as Startup Disk Posted: 01 Mar 2021 06:16 PM PST I made a catalina install OS via 16 GB usb drive, the usb drive is not being recognized in Start up disk or recovery mode upon boot. I need to downgrade from Big Sur, so I am reinstalling Catalina. Any suggestions as to why it is not appearing there? I have tried other usb drives, none appear. They are partitioned correctly, I followed the guide from - https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/bootable-mac-installer-3575875/#getfiles [link] [comments]

What is the best Remote Desktop host option for MacOS? Posted: 01 Mar 2021 05:08 PM PST I have an old MacBook that I'd like to use as a work horse machine for some of my projects. It is in a stationary setup with time machine and other extended storage connected as well as being on a UPS. What is your favorite Remote Desktop software (or built-in MacOS feature I'm probably unaware of) to connect to a MacOS machine and feel like your sitting right in front of it? [link] [comments]
Slow Safari after running CleanMyMac X Posted: 01 Mar 2021 08:53 PM PST I'm using Big Sur 11.2.2 on an M1 Macbook Air. I noticed Safari slowing down whenever I launch it right after cleanup using CleanMyMac X -- it would bounce in the dock a few seconds before it becomes available. I also noticed that performance returns back to normal after a hard reboot. Anyone else experiencing this? [link] [comments]
Find Out The Name of a Menu Bar Item W/ Automator Posted: 01 Mar 2021 08:32 PM PST Hi, I thought I would leave this here incase someone runs into the issue I did:I found a menubar icon that didn't have any clickable or text popups at all. It was basically just a icon that did nothing when clicked on. Thinking the worst, I started looking around the internet to find out how to tell what apps are in the menubar, but to no avail. Finally, I figured, if I record an automator script by recording my screen actions, the automator window would tell me which app. AND IT DOES! https://macmost.com/using-automator-to-playback-actions.html Really, just open Automator, then hit the red record button and then click the menubar icon in question. Then stop the recording and look at which application Automator triggered in the window. [link] [comments]
Macbook Pro crash when sleeping Posted: 01 Mar 2021 08:02 PM PST I'm going to preface this by saying I am a computer scientist and have a large amount of experience in IT. So a couple months ago I upgraded the SSD in my 2015 Macbook Pro 13". I bought an SP 512gb M.2 and an adapter I found on ebay. When I did it everything went well and it worked flawlessly. My macbook would sleep normally and wake normally. About a month ago, it started to drain the battery extremely quicky while asleep and also get hot. I thought the issue was something keeping the system from hibernating but didn't think much of it. Today when I tried to turn it on it chimed once, the screen lit up, then it went dark after a few seconds and chimed again and the apple logo popped up. I then started to look into the issue. I also had previously gotten a kernel panic crash, and when I examined the crash report I noticed it was a problem with the NVMe drive but other than that time I hadn't experienced any issues. I realized it could be the SSD, and read many accounts of people buying the OWC SSD upgrade and having the same issue as me. Example: from this sub. I understand the issue is MacOS's incompatibility with standard NVMe drives / some NVMe drives incompatibility with the low power provided by the MacBook in hibernation. My question is will a samsung 970 evo (as mentioned in the post linked above) work correctly and allow my macbook to sleep correctly, and if not, is my best option purchasing a used 512gb - 1tb OEM apple ssd? An additional question; is there any way to make my current SP ssd work correctly with my Macbook without disabling hibernation altogether? I know that this only works for some people, and I would assume that besides trying this there is no solution besides fully powering off the computer whenever it's not in use. If you've made it this far and have experience with this issue, your help would be greatly appreciated. I like to supply as much info as possible when asking technical questions, as I appreciate when people do the same for me. [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Mar 2021 06:54 PM PST Hello everyone. Recently I've been given an MacBook Pro from my company and I've unboxed it and set it up myself, though, I went through the remote management step. I've been told that I shouldn't access any kind of pornography or install any unlicensed software on it otherwise they would get notified, and I, punished for it. Is this possible considering Apple's remote management feature? Thanks in advance everyone. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Mar 2021 03:50 AM PST I want to add an extra divider to separate the LaunchPad too because I hate it when I launch apps that are not pinned in the dock and the launchpad gets in the middle I want it to always be on the left. Is there a way to add an extra divider or maybe add the launchpad next to the trash icon? [link] [comments]
Get notified when select apps have an update Posted: 01 Mar 2021 06:00 PM PST I have implemented a managed software center for Macs in my organization, but I have to manually check the various vendor's website to see if an update is available so I can update the repo. Although users can update the apps within itself, I would rather make the updates available through this channel for various reasons. I am curious if anyone has found or created a way to automate notifications when say, Chrome, Brave, Atom, etc. have an update available. [link] [comments]
