- just got the new macbook pro
- I recently bought a 2012 Macbook Pro. Can it won’t let me download 10.15.7 which I need for Logic Pro. Is my Macbook not compatible?
- Quick Question: I stopped updating a couple of years ago when I noticed this was still running beautifully after 5+ years. No slowdowns since and still works like it's a year old. What's the reason? Good build? I stopped at Mojave? A sweet spot combo? Genuinely curious. Thanks!

Posted: 12 Mar 2021 11:40 PM PST I have a Magic Mouse 2, Magic Trackpad 2, and Magic Keyboard that I use on my personal and work MacBooks. It's a bit of a pain to manually unpair/repair each device through the bluetooth menu when switching MacBooks. I was wondering if there is any sort of unifying bluetooth receiver that I could simply plug into a docking station connected to the MacBook. That way, all I have to do is disconnect the docking station from one MacBook and connect it to the other, and all 3 devices are usable without having to do too much. [link] [comments]
About to pull the trigger and need a little help (M1 MBA vs MBP) Posted: 12 Mar 2021 07:38 PM PST I've been reading up a lot on these laptops and I'm ready to dive in. I'm curious if I should go with the air or pro. What would I be missing out if I went with the air instead of the pro. All I'm seeing is a slightly brighter screen and Touch Bar. I plan on upgrading to 16GB ram and 512 storage. I plan on making videos and beats. [link] [comments]
Checking if external monitor is RGB orYCbCr (M1 Air) Posted: 12 Mar 2021 11:23 PM PST There have been a lot of issues with blurry text and bad colors on external monitors and the M1 macs. Anyone know how to check if my LG UL 4K monitor is showing RGB input? I can't seem to check it on the display? Any way to check it on the MAC? It doesn't show in system information [link] [comments]

Posted: 12 Mar 2021 09:06 PM PST I'm a 27 y/o college student, I've never owned a MacBook but I've always wanted one. I can't decide which to go with.. 16 inch 2.6GHz 6-Core Processor 512GB Storage AMD Radeon Pro 5300M 32GB memory AMD Radeon Pro 5300M with 4GB of GDDR6 memory 1TB SSD Storage $3000 OR 13 inch Apple M1 Chip with 8-Core CPU and 8-Core GPU 512GB Storage 16GB memory 512 SSD Storage $1800 When I first got on the 13 inch I did not like how small the screen was.. right away I thought this is too small.. I LOVE big screens. I'm usually always at home. I take online classes even before the pandemic. I'll be playing probably one computer game and watching YouTube videos or shows. I have no other computer. I know the M1 is faster but is it THAT much faster that it would matter to me? I went on the 16 inch and it was so fast, would I even notice? My dad said to go with the 16 and he works for Apple. Everywhere online is saying M1 is the best but Idk.. I'm so torn anyone have any advice? What would you choose? [link] [comments]

MBP to Sony HDTV HDMI Audio Delay Posted: 12 Mar 2021 07:15 PM PST Anyone have any idea how to minimize audio delay when using an HDMI cable to connect my 2018 MBP to my Sony x800H HDTV? I'm using a USB C to HDMI cable that purports to support 4k@60Hz but the audio is noticeably behind the video. My TV is set to the "Game" mode to minimize input lag, and this TV is known for having remarkably low input lag on the Game setting, so I'm not sure what else I can try. [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Mar 2021 03:09 PM PST Hi guys! I recently backed up my MacBook Pro 2016 using Time Machine. Unfortunately, I had to factory reset it and reinstall the OS (was running into really weird behavior that I could only attribute to some sort of corruption to MacOS). I am currently at the stage where I'm trying to restore my computer using a Time Machine back up file (using Migration Assistant). Has anyone had success completely restoring your Mac doing this strategy on Big Sur? I've run Migration Assistant on my backup file (stored on an external HD) twice already, and for some reason, it's only restoring my User files. I'm trying to get it to restore EVERYTHING (Applications, configuration files, etc etc) - I'd really rather not manually reinstall 4 years worth of applications and configurations. What's weird is that when I manually look into the Time Machine backup using Finder, I see all my stuff (Applications, configurations, etc.)! Any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments]
2008 Aluminum MacBook going strong Posted: 12 Mar 2021 02:14 PM PST This MacBook got me through undergrad and graduate school. In 2013/14 the battery was giving me problems and I recall that it was running slower than normal, and freezing. At that time I bought an iMac and I put the MacBook out in the garage. I had forgotten about it. The garage gets real cold and hot throughout the year. Not the best place to store electronics. I recently had a need for another laptop for simple writing purposes. I was shopping around for chromebooks or MacBooks, then I remembered the old MacBook in the garage. The battery was dead, so I purchased a new one for $30. It's been running fine! The battery holds a 7+ hour charge. I am guessing that will decrease significantly over the next year or two based on reviews, but that's fine. I just wanted a battery to prevent it from dying if the charger comes unplugged. Everything works normally as far as I can tell. Anyway, I am impressed with the MacBook. I went through two laptops in four years or so before switching to Apple. I will definitely go with Apple when I need something new. That is all. [link] [comments]

Posted: 12 Mar 2021 04:40 PM PST I've been pondering over which Mac to get next for quite a while now. My dad has been wanting a laptop to write, and I thought with Apple set to release the larger MBP soon, it's time to decide whether to give him mine or to buy another. I need to stay in the Apple eco-system. I currently have a 2016 13" MBP (4 USB-C ports, 16GB Ram, 2.9GHz Dual-core i5, and 500 GB SSD). I also have an iPad Pro 12.9". I'm looking to either get a MBA and a Mac Mini, or just go for a MBP 16" when it's released. The reason I'm so torn is because I don't know how to balance performance, price, and size. My work revolves heavily around doing Keynote/PPT presentations, emails, social media apps, and website building via Squarespace. Also, to create my presentations and do other work, I find myself using 2 external screens to work more efficiently whenever possible. When I'm on the go, my speed slows down due to only one 13" screen. Sidecar is not a good longterm solution for me. Since the M1 MacBooks only support 1 external screen natively and 2 USB-C ports, I'm not sure I'd want to go for this option. Also, I find my iPad Pro to overlap with the M1 MBA in too many aspects. I don't want to get 2 of the same thing… So my main points of concern basically boil down to Future-proofing, Ease of Use for work, Price, and What is "Necessary." For Future proofing, I have my doubts about the fanless MBA's performance in the future as software updates could labor the processors more and more. iPhones have slowed down or consumed more battery power to compensate as we move up on iOS updates. So I think having a fan would be the way to go. For Ease of Use, I think a bigger screen would be much appreciated. but at the same time, I wonder if waiting for a MBA or base MBP with multi-screen support would be a better option over getting the 16" MBP? (I'm assuming it will support multiple screens). Another aspect for me would be the speed. My current Intel MBP has a hard time keeping up with the demands of website editing. I assume the M1 MBA would handle everything in a breeze. But, efficiency and conservation of time is what I'm looking for. Lastly, I'm not all that into everything being wireless, so It's hard for me to imagine only using 2 ports. Price wise, if the base model 16" is the same price as the current base 16", then getting the MBA+Mini would be a $700 USD saving than just one 16" MBP. The drawbacks I see will be the aforementioned issues, plus having to create on one device while presenting with the other. That would pose a great inconvenience, especially when I'm on the go. I'm on the go more often than sitting at a desk. Lastly, what is a "need," and what is a "want." I'll be honest and say I WANT the 16", but at the same time, with the huge advancements of the Apple Silicon chips, I'm not sure just how much better they are compared to Intel performance. And thus I am not sure what I would NEED for here & now, and what I can still get out of it in the future. I'd like to keep my devices for as long as I can, and not overspend if I can avoid it. "Performance" is what I'm looking for, as well as bang for my buck. But I don't know what is overkill in the longterm, and what is more appropriate. If the 16" is overkill, then what should I get to not overlap with my iPad? P.S. I also dabble in Final Cut Pro occasionally. Thank you for your patience in reading everything. All recommendations are appreciated. [link] [comments]
Fuzzy text on external monitor for MacBook Pro Posted: 12 Mar 2021 02:48 PM PST I have a 13 inch 2020 MacBook Pro. It's a bit too small to comfortably spend as much time as I do on it. I got a Dell U2720QM 27inch 4K ultra sharp monitor that isn't sharp at all. The color is fine, but text is fuzzy. I'm returning it tomorrow, but I still need a bigger screen. Is there a 19-24 inch monitor for under $800 that would give me crisp text? Thanks! [link] [comments]
My new Macbook Air won't download anything from the app store. Posted: 12 Mar 2021 01:49 PM PST I just purchased a new Macbook Air (this is my first time using a mac, coming from Windows and Linux). The app store notified me I need to update a few apps, but when I click update, I just get little spinning circles. I also tried to download a few other apps and get the same thing. Can anyone help me out and tell me what I'm missing? [link] [comments]

Posted: 12 Mar 2021 11:15 AM PST My system preferences are not saving when I change them, specifically my keyboard settings. I keep trying to turn off the "key repeat" option but it continues to go back to "slow"." There doesn't seem to be any particular time it changes, either. I'm running Big Sur on a 2018 MacBook Air. Macbook Pro 2017 Thermal Runaway Posted: 12 Mar 2021 10:29 AM PST About once every 3 days my Macbook locks up. It doesn't matter what you have open, it could be idle or even with the lid closed in a bag. The fan will spin up full throttle, the mouse will start spinning and it goes unresponsive until you hard boot it. I've reset the PRAM and all that good stuff but nothing i've done so far helps. Running Mojave. I'm concerned it might be a fire hazard as it gets left on my desk or bag and happens in the middle of the night and could be running like that for hours. [link] [comments] |
