OwlOCR - Native Mac App that lets you capture text with screenshots, from images or scanned PDFs and create searchable PDFs, now also supports Finder Extensions

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 11:51 PM PST

    Hey all,

I'm the solo developer of OwlOCR (https://owlocr.com), a native text recognition Mac app I've been working on for right about a year now.

The core problem I really wanted to tackle was the grabbing non-copyable text. As in photos, images, scans, slides on Zoom, courses on the web, etc. For my personal need I wanted to be able to

    1. Select an area on the screen
    2. Any text in that area is machine read and copied to the clipboard.
    3. From there on, paste the results your notes or emails or whatever is appropriate in your workflow.

The app uses Apple's own Vision API for the text recognition - the processing happens pretty much instantaneously, on-device, so it's fast enough even for short text snippets and completely private for any business or personal use!

The latest version that was just released a couple days ago supports Finder extensions for the first time. This means you can easily start some of the main use cases on your files right from Finder. These include creating searchable PDFs, create text files or just grabbing text to the clipboard from your image and PDF files in Finder, without needing to open the app.

The app is very privacy-friendly and none of your data leaves your machine. It has a generous free forever tier and comes with a three week trial of the full Pro features. Also, there are no subscriptions here, only a one-time IAP purchase which is optional, but very much appreciated as it helps with developing the app further.

Here's a 30s video showing OwlOCR in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmxWbn52-M8 and another one for the new Finder Extensions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeT4WqO_htg and more info on the website: https://owlocr.com

Thanks to the forum for having promo Sundays and I'll be glad to answer any questions and get more feedback!

I made calendar app with functionality card that float above the calendar so your day activities easily accessible. You can organize calendar, task and even routine inside. The app was also previously featured on MacRumors.

In these times of day, we keep track everything in our phone. Whether it's scheduled meeting, work task or routine for the evening all need to be neatly organized and it can get messy real fast. My app can help you with all the above but without all the mess. Here's how:

    1. Sepnia keep track scheduled event, task and routine, all in one app.
    2. On calendar view, there is neat feature that pop up functionality card of your selection (event, task, routine), so all your activities are easily accessible.
    3. Routine are grouped based on day period (morning, afternoon and evening)
    4. Tasks are divided by whether is active or not. When you plan to work on a task, you can activate and keep it tracked on the functionality card.
    5. You can also add subtask to task.

I also give a deep care about design and workflow of the UI so I hope every interaction would be a delight experience whenever you use the app. I just recently released a big update and cant wait to hear what you guys think.
