PSA: Big Sur can semi-brick MBP requiring a full wipe to fix. Posted: 08 Feb 2021 05:57 PM PST Wish I had come across this before installing so hopefully this saves someone from being me. For the record, I own a 2016 MBP with all the bells and whistles. Use it as a workhorse for video editing, etc , etc. BIG. SUR. BIG. MISTAKE. I got tired of getting notifications to update to Big Sur and after some research where people said it was running smooth on their 2016 Macs I decided to do it.
P.S. the Apple guy insisted Big Sur would not install if there isn't enough space and I'm the anomaly. This is a lie as many people on the forums ran into my same issues. Those same people also had to wipe their shit. I only had 20gigs available when Big Sur asked me to install. My dumbass hadn't used time machine in two weeks. There goes any work done in that period... luckily I have some alt backups, but I absolutely still lost 1/4 of my work I'd bet. I'm so upset with apple I'm beyond words of fury. I just desperately want to save anyone out there from going through this same incident... TLDR: Backup your Mac before any major update. Always make sure you have 40gigs+ free when doing an Apple OS install. [link] [comments]
Does anyone know how to export the Photos library into folder hierarchies labeled by date? Posted: 08 Feb 2021 10:29 PM PST I'm trying to export my photos but it seems there's only an option to export my photos outright, numbered "x" to "xxxxx", or by Moments, which just exports every photo into a folder named with the Location and date, which is useless. Basically what I want to do is export my photos into folder hierarchies labeled by Year, Month, then Day, so that I can go to the folder for the year "2017" for example, then click on "April", then maybe have a folder of every day in "April". I've tried looking online and some people suggested using scripts but I have no idea how to use them and get "syntax error" when trying to run them. I found this https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/305464/export-photos-with-timestamp-in-filename I think this is what I'm looking for but the way the answer was written is confusing with the way the script was broken up into different parts.. So maybe if someone script-literate would be able to reorganize it into one script it could do the job :D Really not sure why Apple wouldn't already have this by default as the 2 export options they have are really unintuitive if you want to go back and find specific photo without having to manually search up the day. Any help would be amazing🙌 Running Big Sur [link] [comments]

Setup assistant crashed on MBP Posted: 09 Feb 2021 12:12 AM PST So I did a reset on my 2018 MBP, and while going through the setup, the setup assistant crashed somewhere after creating the computer account. Apple ID didn't get singed in correctly, some apps weren't syncing. [link] [comments]

Posted: 08 Feb 2021 01:24 PM PST Hello, First off, I would like to thank you all for helping me fix my MacBook Pro Kernel panic issue. I bought a new chip and it worked. While I butchered the soldering (first time user) it actually fixed the problem!!! I gave the computer to my son and he used it for about a year. Recently he used the computer on battery power until the battery ran out. We charged the computer but now it does not start. If the computer is on battery power it will boot make a clicking sound in the beginning , but no chime. The screen remains black and within about a minute will shut down. However, if the computer is plugged in to the power it will just keep rebooting itself over and over, again no chimes just a clicking sound and nothing else. It will continue doing this until we press down on the off button (for 10 seconds) to completely shut down. If the computer is off and we plug it to the power, it will automatically start going through this reboot loop. I checked online and tried all the different combinations of "shift-command-etc...." and other advice, but nothing happened. I also bought a new battery but that did not work. I know you all are busy, but if you have the time to give some advice on what might be wrong and what I can do, I would greatly appreciate it. Hope you are safe and healthy. [link] [comments]
Changing MP3 to podcast Big Sur Posted: 08 Feb 2021 05:09 PM PST Hi everyone! Before Big Sur and the dedicated podcast app, if I wanted to make an mp3 file appear in podcasts on my iPhone all I had to do was right click on the file in iTunes and set its type to "Podcast", and it would automatically put itself in the podcasts directory ready for syncing. Since music and podcasts are seperate now, there's no way to change the file type within music or the podcasts apps. Is there a way I can maybe alter its type in terminal or something? Cheers! URGENT! macOS Big Sur Semi-Brick Posted: 08 Feb 2021 10:40 PM PST Hello guys, I am quite desperate because I have the issue that was already mentioned: macOS Big Sur started to update without checking if I had enough free space to complete the process, so now I'm left with the macOS Update Assistant and the option to get into Target Disk Mode. I have a rather uncommon question: How can I get into Recovery Mode from this page? AFAIK, after that I would need to erase my Macintosh HD and reinstall macOS. I have a MBA 2019 and need it urgently for school. In the country that I am living in the Apple Store is closed due to the lockdown so help is very much appreciated. Thanks and wish you all the best [link] [comments]
Miss file sharing with IOS devices Posted: 08 Feb 2021 09:55 PM PST I am trying to move files around within my ipad and iphone using the finder. Before Itunes powered that but now I keep having problems. Is there a program or a workout for this? [link] [comments]
Need help in installing Homebrew for m1 Macbook air Posted: 08 Feb 2021 09:47 PM PST Hello people of Reddit! Recently I have installed homebrew by copying the link from brew.sh . Can anybody explain me how to add homebrew to path? Its my first time setting up a mac. Also is the process different from the ones provided for older homebrew versions? Thanks in advance. how to use iCloud Downloads (iOS/iPadOS) on MacOS? Posted: 08 Feb 2021 09:22 PM PST Hey, does anyone know of an official/non-hacky way to use iCloud Downloads folder that exists on iOS / iPadOS on MacOS? (Basically similar to Documents & Desktop) thx! [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Feb 2021 09:01 PM PST Currently have a MacBook pro 2015 with a crack screen and several ports are not responding properly. Is it worth upgrading to a newer version or buy another 2015 mbp or repairing? [link] [comments]
Why does the "kind" column show Sharepoint for my networked iMac? Posted: 08 Feb 2021 08:44 PM PST I have my Macbook Pro networked to my iMac. When logged into the imac from the Macbook Pro I noticed that in the window that shows the folders available to me for the remote iMac, under the "Kind" column was labeled as "Sharepoint" for the two available folders that I had access to. Why is this? I know that Sharepoint is some Microsoft server that I know nothing about. Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Feb 2021 04:32 PM PST I just have a question on why safari is doing this. When I make a search, the drop down from the address bar will come down, either obscuring some of the previews from my search but while the drop down is active, when I click a link, the drop down disappears, but it doesn't take me to the webpage. I attached a clip since it's kind of hard to explain. I've tried changing the search options in the preferences but that didn't do anything to resolve this... weird thing. I appreciate any suggestions you might have. edit: forgot video lol [link] [comments]
Make a website appear as an “app” (Safari/Big Sur)? Posted: 08 Feb 2021 08:13 PM PST Is there a way to launch a web-based as if it were an app? (Ideally M1-native and using Safari so I can take advantage of the saved context, passwords, etc.) Here's the scenario: I'd love to have gmail and Google calendar both appear as their own apps in the dock, task switcher, and when a URL is clicked I'd like that link to open in safari, not another tab in that window. It's tedious to use these as my main mail and calendar app and not be able to CMD-Tab between them, have to use browser tab navigation to navigate between these "apps" and web content. Pinning doesn't solve any of my problems. And even when I open them in new browser windows, I can't easily swap between them using app switching and unless you want to open a new browser window for ever link you click, you end up with your mail browser window full of tabs. I've tried using actual mail apps like Outlook and Mail and they are all lacking key features that are in the web-based versions of gmail and calendar. If there isn't a native way to do this in Big Sur or Safari, is there an app that allows me to do this that's native for M1 and uses the Safari engine and all of its benefits? [link] [comments]
New 2020 MacBook Pro, just updated to Big Sur 11.2, one Port decides to not work anymore Posted: 08 Feb 2021 07:52 PM PST As the title states, I updated my MacBook Pro to 11.2 Big Sur. All of the thunderbolt ports were working as expected prior to the update. I should state that I have the Intel version with 4 ports. But after I upgraded to the newest version, the top left port is acting dead. Has anyone experienced this? If so, is there anything that you have done to fix this, or should I just go ahead and get an appointment with the Genius Bar? [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Feb 2021 01:38 PM PST Seeing the poll for whether people use an app cleaner or not, I want to see for those that do, which they prefer. Comment if you prefer something else. [link] [comments] |
