    Cracked screen

I cracked my macbook air 2017 13" screen today by an accident, with a pen. It's rather a small crack but it's in the middle of the screen is there anything i can do?

Normal for M1 Air to not charge with 3rd party chargers?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 08:59 PM PST

Tried using both Lenovo 65W chargers (both work perfectly with other laptops and USB C devices in the house), tried them on different outlets, etc but none of the Lenovos would charge my brand new M1 MacBook Air. I figured I'd leave the original charger in the box as a backup. Thought the laptop was defective right out of the box, I had been using my Lenovo chargers on my 2018 Air with no issues. Tried the included charger just to make sure and it does charge fine, same with a 25W Anker charger I have for my phone. Is this normal behavior on the M1 models? Just wanting to make sure haha before I go ahead and set everything up.

Is it safe to purchase a used 2015 Macboook if one needs to get a safe machine? I mean how prone it is to error, failure? Because to be frank it seems expensive to service, it can sometimes cost more than the machine itself, is it a better choice to choose a business laptop? What do you think?

Charging the M1 MacBook Air with iPad Pro 20 W charger.

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 10:27 PM PST

I have a 20 W charger that I got with my iPad Pro. I just wanted to know if I can use it with my M1 MacBook Air?

I'm doing this because the charger that came in the box (30 W) heats up a bit while charging (laptop remains very cool, just the charger) and I wanted to use a different brick.

I just wanted to know if it'll be fine. One more thing to consider, I don't use the laptop while charging.

I know this will result in shower charging. I'm fine with that.

    Thanks!

    MacBook Pro Password issue

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 10:13 PM PST

I have forgotten the password of my Mac book, but I still use it everyday from the finger print sensor built in, if something were to happen to that sensor however such as a restart or whatever, I would be screwed. So what would be the best way to get my password back/changed?

HELP! is my mac too far gone? water damage

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 06:04 PM PST

Hi everyone, today I spilled a pretty large cups worth of water on my new laptop. I turned it off within a few minutes and put it upside down as everyone says to do.

I checked on it a few hours later and found it had turned itself on. I know everyone says do not turn it on for at least a day or 2 and yet my computer had turned on by itself. When it was on i noticed the caps lock was stuck on and i couldn't log in, as well as a water stain on the screen. more annoyingly, now it won't stay off..

Ive read lots of success stories where people spilled on their computer and after a few days keeping it off, like magic they work again. i am worried since mine turned on by itself, it caused further damage and won't come back from this.

has anyone experienced a similar situation? what did you do? should i take it into the apple store asap or wait to see if it comes back?

Using Lenovo USB-C Charger + Generic Hub with M1 MacBook Pro?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 09:35 PM PST

I have the 13" MacBook Pro (M1 Version), and I was wondering, is it okay to connect the 65W Lenovo USB-C charger to the MacBook Pro? This charger is used to charge my ThinkPad (also USB-C). Link to the charger itself if it helps.

Currently, I have this charger connected directly to a USB-C hub from Amazon (link), can I simply plug the hub into the MacBook (which also allows me to use the hub and charger together as the charge pass-through from the hub), or should I only use the Apple wall charger? I have a couple of these ThinkPad chargers so ideally, it would be convenient to use that charger and USB-C hub. I am just concerned about the safety and preventing any type of harm it can cause to the MacBook (if that is possible).

I can understand this may be a bit of a "dumb" question, but I know USB-C can be a bit of an iffy subject on what is safe to use and what isn't so I figure I'd ask.

    Sell 2019 15-inch MacBook Pro for 13" M1 Air?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 08:10 PM PST

Hello everyone! In April 2020 I got a refurbished 2019 base model 15-inch MacBook Pro. I've used it for a while and it's been a good machine, but I'm really not a power user and don't use the big screen or graphics card to anywhere near their full potential. In addition, the shorter battery life, heft, and fan noise kinda annoy me. Would it make sense to sell this machine and get an M1 Air before the new 16" Apple Silicon MacBook Pro comes out and it loses a lot of value?

MBP (M1) running on battery vs. mains

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 11:58 AM PST

    Hi There,

I've googled it a lot, and there are different, contradicting pieces of advice on the web.

How do you use your MBP to make the battery last the longest?

Throughout my whole live I've always used my laptops connected to mains/power supply 99% of the time. Only when actually had to go to a meeting, or move away from the desk, would I disconnect it and run it on battery. Now... only just recently I've started considering buying my first MacBook, and thought the latest ones are a great opportunity to actually start (like a lot of people, I'd imagine). When thinking about the purchase, I've watched A TON of videos and reviews of the M1 MacBooks and I don't think I've seen it connected to a power supply once. Of course, this could be simply because of the superb power efficiency, etc., but still I felt uneasy seeing these computers just powered on with no power supply, while the reviewer talked for 30 mins..."If it's just sitting on the desk, why don't they connect it to the power supply!? it wouldn't waste the charging "cycles", right..?"

Now I've got my first MacBook (M1 MBP), and I keep wondering how I should actually use it to make sure it lasts. It's super convenient to only charge it when needed, but at the same time I feel like I'm actually degrading it, or killing the battery when I don't really need to. Instead of sitting on a sofa, with the computer on my lap, I could just as well have it connected to power supply...

    What are your experiences?

What is the "truth" here about the best way to use (or not) the battery?

Is it "if you're not using the battery, you're not wasting the cycles", or "use it or lose it"? ;-)

    Storage others

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 01:07 PM PST

Hello I got a new MBA M1 today and in storage the "other" category is growing the entire time. I can literally sit here and watch it take up more storage. Today when I set it up and dowloaded all the apps and programs I use the "other" category was taking up around 12 GB and now only at the end of the same day it is taking up 20 GB, more than any other category. Is that normal? It's my first MacBook so I am a little bit concerned. I would appreciate it f someone could help me.

Do M1 MacBook keyboard keys wear off sometimes?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 12:13 PM PST

I've seen a lot of photos of MacBooks where the color came actually off the key cap. Can this also happen on the new M1 versions? If yes, then this is a huge disappointment. They should be designed for not coming off.

    MacBook pro Retina 2015

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 10:13 AM PST

Good afternoon, I received my monitor by post yesterday (iiyama G-Master Red Eagle GB3461WQSU-B1) and have been trying to connect it to my Macbook for half a day, but it doesn't work. I am using a 2015 MacBook pro Retina. But because there is a crack in my MacBook screen, I use an external display with HDMI 2. I had an HP screen for two years and that worked without a problem with HDMI2. Now that I have connected the ultrawide screen to my Mac, I cannot get past my login screen. The only thing I see is moving my mouse cursor, but otherwise I can't click anything or not log in. And it is not the macbook or cable because with an old screen it works without problem. Is this because of the HDMI? I read online that a thunderbolt to displayport would fix this but then it's max 60HZ. And that would be a shame since I bought a 144HZ screen. Usb c to displayport would give better HZ but 2015 mac doenst have usb c (thunderbolt 3) could someone give me some tips or help, on how to connect my MacBook to my monitor correctly please. Thanks in advance.
