Posted: 06 Feb 2021 12:20 AM PST Hello everyone! So I recently got myself my first MacBook ever and I have a very simple question for those of you out there with more knowledge and experience about the issue. Is it okay to keep my laptop plugged in when I'm not using it? It is a habit of mine to leave all my devices to charge overnight (or even when I go out) but I'm wondering if this might be hurtful for the battery down the line. Thank you in advance for your help:) [link] [comments]
Battery prob, keeping my 2013 pro alive. Plz help! Posted: 05 Feb 2021 11:15 PM PST Hello, was wondering if anyone here might have a tip. So my old reliable Mac was having the typical issues an old MacBook would have after being charged and recharged a zillion times. Barely holds a charge, sudden shutdowns, etc. this Mac is so old, and I have some electronics experience, so I figure, what the heck, I'll give the DIY aftermarket battery swap a try. I order the parts, am able to successfully do the change, and the computer is running great. I charge it to max, then use it a bunch for a couple days to let the battery completely go dead (these were the instructions that came with the battery kit). During the 2 days, not one problem, like a new computer. So I charge it again, leave it for an hour and a half... it's dead as a door nail. I mean nothing. No screen blink, no sound, nothing. However, the charging cable responds normally. Lights up green when plugged in, turns orange to go into charge mode. I try all the recommended things I found on Google. Hold down power for 10 seconds Control, option, shift, power button release Command, shift, p, r, power, hold down release, nothing. But then I notice a sound. If I put my ear up to the back of the computer, it makes a "whooshing" sound over and over again. Like it's trying to start, but just can't quite make it happen. The sound actually doesn't stop if the power is plugged in. Keeps going over and over again. But stops if I unplug. But it will start if I attempt to start it again, but it doesn't keep going like it does with the power cable in. Now, I would simply write this off as my having made a mistake during the batt change. But the part that has me so puzzled it that it was working flawlessly for all that time afterwards, and only had issues when the batt ran out. If anyone has any insight or another thing I can try before I crack it open again, I'd really appreciate it. On all my google searches, no one mentioned meting able to hear the disks attempting to spin up. Thx in advance. -nic Late 2012-2013 15" MacBook Pro retina. [link] [comments]
Is my SSD about to die? Apparently the error threshold is at 3% (Screenshot) Posted: 05 Feb 2021 11:08 PM PST I am using an app called SSDReporter and it's telling me that the SSD error threshold is at 3%. I'm not really sure what that means. MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013) so I am concerned that it's getting old. [link] [comments]
which Macbook to use with an 32" 4K external screen: M1 Air or Pro ? Posted: 05 Feb 2021 09:34 PM PST Hi, I bought a 4k 32" screen and discovered my 2012 Mac does not support more than 1080p. Then I hooked it to my 2018 MacBook Air (i5 dual core, 8Gb) and although it supports the resolution, it cannot handle the Citrix application I use (heavy trading tool) in combination with that resolution. The CPU constantly works at 120% and it is not workable. Even at 1080p it runs around 70%. My late-2012 Mac (i5 quad-core, 16Gb) has no issue at all with the Citrix applications on 2 screens simultaneously. So I figured the best solution is to trade in my MacBook (that is still worth something) for a new model with 16Gb and the M1 processor, which should solve my issues. so my questions: 1) Is that a correct conclusion? 2) Will the MacBook Air be sufficient or do I need the Pro that has a fan and can handle high CPU use for a longer period? thanks! Posted: 05 Feb 2021 09:30 PM PST I bought MacBook Air last year and right away I noticed the battery wasn't very good. The battery would last for maybe 4-5 hours even though Apple claims a new laptop can last for 10+. I called up apple support and they said give it time and the battery will improve. I've given it time and it hasn't. Is there anything I can do to improve my battery life? If it stays like this should I see about getting a replacement? [link] [comments]
Selecting ram for MacBook Pro M1 || ecommerce Posted: 05 Feb 2021 09:00 PM PST I intend to run an e-commerce business, so likely to be using some photoshop and video editing for ads. I personally feel that I would only be having light usage for photoshop and video editing as I'm not a photographer or videographer that requires me to do heavy editing. So which should I choose? Advice please! [link] [comments]
Lack of options for m1 air or pro in my country, help please Posted: 05 Feb 2021 08:41 PM PST Hey everybody. So where I live I am not fortunate enough o be able to configure things like you in the west. I am currently working in marketing and will increase my workload with creating videos for YouTube etc. The only options I have are the M1 air - 8cpu/7gpu 256gb or 8cpu/8gpu: 512 M1 pro - 8/8/ 256 or 8/8 512 Due to budget I am torn between the air 512 or the pro 256. I have watched so many reviews but I can't make up my mind :(. I don't really trust you tubers to give honest real life opinions. Any advice ? Stay safe ! [link] [comments]

Magsafe usb-c Adapter Recommendations?... Posted: 05 Feb 2021 06:15 PM PST Question, was wondering what the community felt about today's USB-C/Magsafe-like adapters on the market. Upgraded my laptop and plugging in the power to the usb-c port just makes me worry every time. I realize that a 'real' magsafe solution does not exist; however, I see there are a number of aftermarket solutions. Any comments, thoughts, ideas, recommendations - please let me in on them. I'm thinking perhaps going this route - but only if I can reasonably expect not to blow something to hell and gone. [link] [comments]
If you need to get through to Apple to get help... Posted: 05 Feb 2021 10:42 AM PST Don't slam them on social media. That only brings you negative attention and may anger them. Write an email to Tim Cook! No seriously, do it. I've had a terrible experience with Apple Support in Spain. I read online emailing him could help so I figured hell, why not. I was polite and concise. The subject was "Apple Support Spain" Low and behold I got a call less than 24h later from the Spain executive in charge of retail. She is now taking charge of my case personally. The second MBA I received was actually worse than the first one (wobbly and unbalanced), I told her over email and she immediately asked to call me and then requested I send her photos and videos of both defective laptops so she could send them to quality control. I don't know what will come of this, or if I'll be compensated in any way, but either way I'm glad I'm at least trying. Maybe me speaking up will help some people in the future. I'll keep you guys posted when she gets back to me and update this post! [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Feb 2021 12:56 PM PST I teach English as a Second Language in Japan, and I need to record my voice reading a series of essays, short news articles in the 2-3 minute range. These recordings will be burned to a CD and distributed to the students along with the transcripts. I am not being reimbursed for this project, so I would like to do this on the cheap. So I have a few questions, and your help advice is greatly appreciated. I have an M1 Air. Is the built-in mic suitable for such a task? I do not need perfection, but I do need the audio quality to be clear and very good. I am not leaning towards a dedicated mic unless this is needed, and I am willing to consider suggestions. What software would you suggest that can handle the voice to text transcription? Free options are best, but I am willing to consider paid options as well. Other info: I have burning software and Microsoft Word to produce an aesthetically-pleasing document from the transcription. I plan to conduct such recordings in my office during quiet hours. Is there anything else I need to be aware of to make this project successful? Thank you. [link] [comments]

Will summer temps throttle M1 air more? Posted: 05 Feb 2021 11:35 AM PST I am ready to buy a macbook air, 16gb 1tb. I am a teacher, so I will not be rendering videos or doing any work of that kind, although I wonder, since it has no fan, how it will perform if the ambient temp is about 30c. Do you think it will throttle more? I have no AC and the summer temps are high here. People who have the air and are experiencing summer now (australians?) how does the air perform? Thanks. Strange screen after waking up? Posted: 05 Feb 2021 02:53 PM PST My Macbook went to sleep earlier and when I pressed a key to log back on I noticed the screen was completely different. Usually I just have the default wallpaper. This time is was a gray screen and it said "McHapps' Macbook". I'm very confused. Is this a bug? Is this something to worry about? [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Feb 2021 01:38 PM PST So I've had my new MacBook M1 for a week and it's great, but whenever I have the sound up on Microsoft Teams or GarageBand the left speaker will make this buzzing sound, it's not constant, but more in time with the sound if that makes sense? However if I go on Spotify and play music, even at full volume, they do not buzz at all making me wonder whether this is a software problem rather than a direct problem with my speakers? Does anyone have any advice, I am really keen on not returning it etc since it is the 16gb version so it would take ages to get a replacement [link] [comments]
How does Photos work for a newbie? Posted: 05 Feb 2021 07:38 AM PST Hi all, I got my first Apple Macbook Pro last year but I'm still unused to the mac interface. I've always stored all my pictures in folders, which are currently sitting in a big 'Pics' folder I made on my desktop. I'm interested in moving them to the Photos app, but I still don't know how it works. If I import all my pictures, do I need to keep the original folders separate to the Photos app? If I delete a picture from the original folder, will it also be deleted from the Photos app, and vice versa? This is my only Apple product, so I don't have much use for the iCloud feature. Do I need to use it to access the Photos app? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. [link] [comments] |
