Can't use Apple ID credit to buy Apple software Posted: 10 Feb 2021 05:09 PM PST Just wanted to share a frustrating experience I've had over the last few days. Last year while in quarantine I decided I wanted to put some time and effort into creative pursuits, and I saw the Pro Apps Bundle for Education for AU$300 (as seen here), which I am eligible for. Over Christmas I had asked for money towards that from friends and family, who were generous enough to get me some App Store gift cards. Finally having enough money loaded into my account, I proceeded to purchase only to discover that I can only use a credit card to buy the bundle, not Apple ID credit. After spending quite a while on the phone with Apple Support Australia over the last couple of days, they essentially said there is nothing they can do, tough luck. Getting a refund on the credit in the Apple ID is not possible and using the credit to buy the bundle is not possible. So I have $300 sitting in my account doing nothing, and if I want to still actually get the software I have to find another $300. To buy just Final Cut Pro and Logic would cost AU$820 outside of the education bundle, so that's even less of an option. I know there's other software like Adobe Creative Cloud, but that doesn't help me use the $300 sitting in my account. I accept that I should have checked how to pay for the software before friends bought me gift cards - sure, that's on me. In my defence, every single piece of Apple software I've bought in the past was done with App Store credit, so it didn't occur to me this would be any different. I also understand there are probably good reasons why they won't refund money from an Apple ID account (I guess some kind of fraud?). I realise the business area that handles the education bundle is likely different to the normal software area, and that they probably need to do some checks to make sure I really am eligible. However, I don't really accept that there's nothing they could do. I'm sure if they really wanted to, they could find a way to transfer the funds. The purpose of this post is partly to vent my frustration at the futility of trying to deal with large companies like Apple, partly to ask if anyone has any recommendations for how to move forward, and partly hoping for the tiny chance that this will gain enough traction for someone at Apple to see and be able to help. Thanks for reading. TL;DR Friends bought me App Store gift cards to help me buy the Pro Apps Education bundle, found out too late that App Store credit can't be used to buy this bundle. Apple Support gave me a brick wall saying too bad. Now I have $300 sitting in my Apple ID account that I can't do anything with. Help? [link] [comments] |
Just received my new M1 Air. What is this stuff underneath the speaker grill?? Posted: 10 Feb 2021 12:54 AM PST |
Posted: 10 Feb 2021 03:30 PM PST Long story short, my iPhone XS had battery issues and due to the pandemic the only option to get it serviced is to mail it in to one of their service centres. It is covered by warranty, and the repair/battery replacement is free. I got an email from them today saying that they will proceed by sending me a replacement phone. My case is handled by a senior support specialist, should I try to email him asking that I'd be willing to pay a bit more and get a newer refurbished phone? I suppose they were planning to send me a refurbished phone, not a brand new in a box. Is there any point of that? Has anyone done it before? [link] [comments] |
Cant redownload Apple Music app Posted: 10 Feb 2021 07:30 PM PST Hey everyone, I recently deleted my Apple Music app to try and solve a glitch that was occurring within my library. When I go on the App Store to redownload, it says "Open" instead of "Download" as if I didn't delete the app at all. When I press "Open," it says that restrictions are enabled and nothing happens. I've seen a couple people with this issue online but Apples responses are less than helpful. Would love it if someone knew the solution to this. Thanks so much! [link] [comments] |
My key won’t go back into my keyboard, and work Posted: 10 Feb 2021 07:03 PM PST Issue: I removed my key on my MacBook pro 2020 in order to clean underneath, but when i tried to put back my D key the key will not work. It like it gets pushed to far and sticks leaving me without the ability to press down on the key because it's stuck. Nothing is broken or missing from the key and all my other keys work. Is there any fix for this or do i need to take it into get fixed? [link] [comments] |
YouTube requires update but my iPad is too old to update Posted: 10 Feb 2021 06:42 PM PST I'm just wondering if anyone is able to help me. I've had my u pad mini for about 8 years, I just use it for watching YouTube and Netflix. Now my YouTube app tells me that I have to update the app if I want to use it but due to my I pad mini being so old I can't update the YouTube app, I'd buy a new i pad if I could but due to covid money is tight at the moment. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could solve this? [link] [comments] |
Iphone 11 max stuck on restore Posted: 10 Feb 2021 10:04 PM PST So my phone 11 max just randomly shut off the other day and wouldn't turn on. It was stuck in a "boot loop" for days. I'd do the volume up/down and power to get it to reset and just over and over again I did that and every now and then it'd actually power on normally and then after a minute or so it'd just cut out (battery was fine). After another day and me attempting to update the phone via my MacBook it is now stuck in the (support.apple.com/restore). it goes straight to that. And no more boot loop but now I'll just keep trying to update it and it'll say "could not be updated an unknown error has occurred". For many months my iPhone was not been backed up and I've been meaning to put the content on a hard drive to free up space. Restoring it I would lose all the content that isn't backed up which is a lot of really important pictures (photos of recently lost parent) so basically I'm looking for any way to get the phone up and running to extract this media. One USB-C port doesn't work for anything other than charging Posted: 10 Feb 2021 02:09 PM PST Issue: My Macbook makes a strange error. Out of the four USB-C ports, one of them does not work properly. If I plug any USB-C dongles or hubs into it, the MacBook thinks that the charger is connected. The dongles show light (like there is electricity coming through) but my MacBook doesn't recognize any accessory plugged into the dongle in that port. The port works fine with a USB-C to lightning cable as well. If I use any other port the USB-C Hubs and dongles work completely fine. I have tried:
The AASP says that they can't see any errors (they say the can see the port can read data through just fine). The thing is that I have a USB-C to lightning cable and it seems to work fine with that as well. My guess is there is something about USB-C Hubs that use more electricity that makes the port not work. It can charge fine through the port as well. Please is there anyone that know what I need to do? Info about computer: macOS Big Sur 11.2 MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) 2,3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB [link] [comments] |
Apple TV 4K struggling to start playing Dolby Vision content on Netflix Posted: 10 Feb 2021 09:25 PM PST I've had an Apple TV 4K for almost 2 years now. It's been great, but recently it's started to struggling to start playing Dolby Vision content specifically on Netflix. I don't get this issue in any other app when I play DV content, and I don't get this issue when I watch SDR content in the Netflix app. It's only DV content specifically in the Netflix app. The problem is, I watch a lot of DV content on Netflix. So for the issue: Basically it struggles to start playing. It'll start with the Netflix logo for like half a second and then freeze on a black screen, then it'll come back for another half a second and then freeze on a black screen, and it continues to do that for a while. Clicking play/pause or the track pad repeatedly will eventually get it to stop the stuttering and then it plays all the way through no problem, even if the episode ends and a new one starts automatically. It's just that first initial "play now" click that causes the issue. Hard resets don't seem to help either. I'm wondering if this is an HDMI cable issue, but all my HDMI cables are premium certified. I think it's more likely a software issue or my Apple TV is starting to go bad. [link] [comments] |
Messages won't sync from phone to mac Posted: 10 Feb 2021 09:24 PM PST I've had this problem since June, when I updated to Catalina on mac. My messages app is just blank and it constantly says syncing from iCloud, and when someone texts me it'll pop up on my computer briefly then disappear and there's no history of it. My phone messages work just fine, but it just won't work on my computer and I have done absolutely everything I can. Anyone else ever had this issue? [link] [comments] |
beats studio Wireless Audio trouble shooting? Posted: 10 Feb 2021 09:17 PM PST I charged my beats to turn them on and found hat they sound worse than a pair of Free Airline Earbuds. Bass is completely gone, has more crackles than a CRT TV, there is no treble, and its tinny. How do I fix this? I already reset them and removed the Bluetooth connection and repaired it. They were not doing this before the charge. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Feb 2021 09:04 PM PST This has me a little freaked out, I won't lie. For the first time just ten minutes ago, I was watching a YouTube video and someone said something that sounded similar to "Siri", and it activated Siri on my MacBook. The thing is, this has never happened before: I didn't think internal computer audio could trigger Siri, much less when it's going through AirPods. What's going on here? Am I wrong that this is abnormal? I replayed that part of the video several times and I can confirm that it's the video activating Siri. [link] [comments] |
Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem with my screen time Posted: 10 Feb 2021 09:01 PM PST Is there any way to deal with this problem. I set up screentime for myself so I don't spend large amount of time on my phone. When I use up all of my screen time that I put in place, I can no longer play gamepidgeon. I understand why Apple did this and it makes sense. I haven't been able to make it so that I can play gamepidgeon after my screen time is used up. If there is a way to fix this problem please let me know. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Apple notifications changed language Posted: 10 Feb 2021 08:58 PM PST My Apple ID has Hong Kong set as the country. Until recently all of my notifications from music, TV etc. apps and all of my emails for subscriptions and invoices were in English; they've now mysteriously changed to traditional Chinese. How can I set correspondence language? [link] [comments] |
Apple ipad mini 4 constant WiFi disconnects Posted: 10 Feb 2021 08:54 PM PST I have an ipad mini 4, running iPados 14.3 and since upgrading to 14.3 I have noticed repeated and significant WiFi disconnects. Its to the point I have to cycle the WiFi connection every 10 ish minutes to watch anything or use it. No other device in the house is experiencing these disconnects and the router was recently upgraded. I have disabled private addresses and reset the network adapter to no avail. Any suggestions? Posted: 10 Feb 2021 08:30 PM PST My battery drains really fast, even when sleeping. I've noticed this for a while now but recently I looked at my battery settings and found this. I don't do anything battery-intensive. I even use Safari over Chrome. Activity Monitor shows my most energy-impactful app is the Messages app. It literally seems to last 2-3 hours while using it for basic browsing, YouTube, Discord, etc. Battery condition is considered normal. Here are my specs: MacBook Pro 16, 2019 model (Purchased July 2020), 2.4GHz i9, 32GB RAM, base GPU (4GB VRAM), 512GB storage, running the latest version of Big Sur. [link] [comments] |
Problems with lower-res external monitor? Posted: 10 Feb 2021 08:13 PM PST I just got a Dell P2419HC (1920x1080) to use as an external monitor for my Macbook Pro M1. However, text looks horrible on this monitor. I'm not sure what the problem is (might be related to subpixel rendering, HiDPI not being enabled, or what not. But you can see that it is not a monitor issue, but rather a rendering issue. Take a look at these screenshots taken on the retina display and on the external display Is there any way to fix this on Big Sur 11.2.1? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Feb 2021 07:56 PM PST I bought an iPhone 8 in December 2019. In December 2020, it stopped working. I brought it in and they told me that it was 'error 14', that my data couldn't be retrieved, and that the phone was no longer functional/able to turn on. They offered to give me a replacement. Given I was already a few generations behind, I decided I would buy an iPhone 12. When they handed me the replacement, they sent me an email which states the retail value of the replacement iPhone 8 is $517. I asked them if I could 'hand back' the replacement iPhone and get the $517 in store credit to go towards the iPhone 12 I planned to buy there and then. She said no; that I could only benefit from the trade in program (usually for used phones) which would get me only $220. Remember this replacement phone is fresh out of the box and still has the plastic wrap covering the front and back. She even acknowledged that it was not entirely fair and that I'd be better off trying to sell it on Facebook Marketplace for more, but no one seems to want to buy an iPhone 8 now that the 2nd gen SE is around. What do I do? [link] [comments] |
MacBook Pro 2017 crashed and doesn‘t start anymore Posted: 10 Feb 2021 03:28 PM PST I was running a few applications and then it shut off. Battery was also close to being empty. Now it doesn't start anymore.
What can this be and what can I do? I already did the cmd ctrl opt and power button reset. Thanks for your help! [link] [comments] |
Can I Switch My Personal Devices to My Own Apple ID from Family’s Shared Apple ID? Posted: 10 Feb 2021 06:40 PM PST Switching Devices from Collective Family Apple ID to My Own My family has had Apple products for about 10/12 years, starting with my dad (back in the time when iPod Nanos were all the rage!). My mom, two siblings, and I just added our devices onto that same Apple ID as we acquired them. Currently, I'm 21 and am still on that shared Apple ID. Since I'm older now, I would like to have my own Apple ID to use for my own devices. I was wondering if it was possible for me to make the switch with my devices (a MacBook, Apple Watch, iPhone) from the shared Apple ID to a personal one? If so, how is that done? Basically all I've found on the internet are directions to remove a device from a current Apple ID, not how to switch it over to a new one. Sorry if this question is repetitive (though I did try to make sure my exact question wasn't asked before posting). Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |

How to clear safari's 'top hit'? Posted: 10 Feb 2021 01:22 PM PST As the title says, I hope you guys can help me to clear safari's top hit websites; it is a bit of annoying feature, e.g. I visit this site mangadex almost every day and it always appeared as the 'top hit' after typing the letter m, but a few days ago I visited a twitter profile called 'all might' ONCE and now it seems that 'might' is the top hit for safari after I type M. I've noticed that a couple of top hits have changed to a random letter in the middle of a random twitter's account name and it's driving me crazy cause I can't seem to find a way to revert them as they were before. Is there anything I can do to clear this 'top hit' function or to deactivate it altogether? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Feb 2021 04:46 PM PST So iphones usually automatically bring up the keyboard when tapping on a safari bar or text messages. Instead I have to double tap it. It doesn't pop up unless I clear Safari's web bar. It also doesn't pop up when I try to put in my passcode when entering an Apple ID for my iPhone 12 ios 14.4. This has also happened on my iPhone 6s. Does it have anything to do with watching adult films? [link] [comments] |
Turn off Two-Factor Authentication? Posted: 10 Feb 2021 04:25 PM PST I can't seem find a way to turn off two-factor authentication for my Apple ID. I searched on google and it says that when I log onto appleid.apple.com there should be an option to turn it off? I don't have that option. (Currently, I'm happy using the feature and find it really useful. I'm just concerned that if anything were to happen to my other devices in the future, I would have no way of logging into my account) [link] [comments] |
