Hey guys! my brother is buying himself a new macbook pro, so I would be using his 4 year old 2015 macbook air. It’s is in a very good condition and i will also be replacing the battery of it. My doubt was that can i use it for somewhere around 2 years only for programming and browsing web?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 11:12 PM PST

Programming languages include c, c++ , python, java, sql and I will also be watching series and movies in it. Is it feasible??

Has 11.2 Big Sur fixed the wifi/BT issues on MBA M1?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 10:06 PM PST

Just wondering. For those who have wifi/BT issues on their MBA M1 and also have downloaded 11.2, is the issue resolved?

I am a lifelong windows user looking to finally switch to apple, but the wifi/bt issues concern me.

    Thanks

Buying the M1 Macbook as a student. Going to be using it in professional school. I don't do any heavy sort of editing or program use. Just browser, reading, word processing, youtube. A little photoshop. Is the M1, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD good for me? I want to keep it for at least 4 or 5 years.

    SIB Mac mini

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 10:39 AM PST

Hello Mac users! I've got a question for you. I am a teen who is going to go to uni in a little over a year. I'm what I guess you can call a heavy Apple user. For a fairly long time I have admired MacBooks and Macs and recently I had a brilliant idea to buy myself a Mac mini. Should I tho? I already have a Microsoft pc but it's slow and old by pc age (3 years old). I also have an IPad Pro that is great and I love it. Is a Mac mini a good addition to my collection and can it improve my studying experience? Is it going to be a good replacement for my pc? So.... SIB it? I guess I am kinda searching for a yes but still be objective please. Thanks!

    MacBook Air screen doesn’t work

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 08:14 PM PST

About two years ago my MacBook Air early 2015 screen stoped working. The computer is fine but the screen is black. But I can plug it a hdmi and get it on my tv. Anyone know what I can do? Trying to avoid being it in and spending 400 bucks to get a new screen.

M1 Macbook Pro Not Connecting to External Display

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 01:42 PM PST

I recently purchased the M1 Macbook Pro (16GB/256GB) and am having trouble connecting my Thunderbolt display to it. I have two adapters, one Thunderbolt 3/Thunderbolt 2 and USB-C multiport adapter. When I plug both adapters into my computer, I can hear sound coming from the display but no image comes up. Additionally, my mouse cursor doesn't move over to the second display. There's no "Arrangement" tab in System Preferences > Display.

I'm still holding on to my 2017 Macbook Air and it can connect to my Thunderbolt monitor just fine. Anyone know what the issue might be?

Reddit, please help! - Should I sell my 2020 Intel MBP for and buy an M1?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 07:29 PM PST

    Original Purchase
    In September 2020 I bought an Intel-based 13" 2020 Macbook Pro, 1TB SSD, 16GB RAM, 2.0 GHz Quad-Core i5, Retina Display, Touchbar, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports for $2100.

    Regret
(I know, I know... 🤦‍♂️ I wanted to wait for the M1 so badly. But I run a small business through my laptop, my 2015 Macbook Air was finished, and predictions about the reliability of the upcoming ARM chips were still mixed.)

    Potential M1 MBP Purchase
    A comparable M1 with a 512GB SSD (that's enough for me) and 16GB RAM would be $1699.

    Potential Intel MBP Sale
I have an offer to sell my current Intel MBP for $1100. So I would be paying $599 more than this to upgrade to an M1. This would be $2700 total to upgrade from a 2015 Macbook Air to a 2020 M1.

Paying $2700 to upgrade to an M1, when everyone else is paying $1700 feels awful. But, in retrospect, if I were to have been offered a 2020 M1 for $2700 in September, I likely would have bought it. And if I don't sell now, my short window to sell will close.

    Concern
I'm mostly concerned that within the next few years Apple and app developers will stop updating/supporting the Intel processor. When purchasing this laptop, I'd planned to keep this MBP for 5 years.

    Use
I run a small business and use my laptop mostly for creating and running BIG Keynote presentations, for spreadsheets, and for minor video/audio/photo editing.

    Thanks for your help Reddit!

Anyone try new macbook M1 air or pro with e external GPU (Razer Core X Chroma)?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 03:51 PM PST

I used to own macbook retina 2012 for 6-7 year and upgraded to thinkpad x1 around 2 years. I really want to back to mac world. But i just concern does the new m1 air or pro support the razer core X? I don't need it to play game or anything, I just want to make my dual 27 monitor and keyboard mouse works without buying other dock or hub.

M1 MacBook Air 16GB - Speedtest.net Super Slow for Download

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 11:46 AM PST

Speedtest.net is showing super slow results for download, many times under 1mb. Upload speed looks fine. This cannot be correct and doesn't act like that when browsing/downloading.

Google speed test (performed on the google search page) looks great.

Tested with wifi and ethernet, on Speedtest.net and with Mac app. Has anyone else experienced this? I can only guess that it is something wrong on the way the test is performed as other tests look good and I don't see that slowness in real life. Thanks.

Is buying a MacBook Air (2015) a good deal?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 09:13 AM PST

    Hello everyone!
I want to change my Windows laptop because it has only 4 GB ram and is not working at my speed, and since I always used Windows I wanted to change to a macOs (I have an iPhone and a iPad, so I'm not completely new to the world of Apple), but before buying it I need some advice from someone more expert.

I found out a MacBook Air from 2015 with 8 GB RAM with a good offer (unfortunately, this is the only one I can afford). I will use it mainly for university stuff (Word, Powerpoint and etc, Notion, some Zoom calls), internet browsing, listening to music and streaming some tv show (maybe playing The Sims 4, but this is not a certaint point). Does this mac suits me? Can I update it to Big Sur, right? Is it a suicide buying a 2015 MacBook in 2020? Any information based on your experience is more than welcome :)

Worried about MBA M1's wireless/bluetooth issues

    Posted: 14 Jan 2021 01:15 PM PST

I have been a lifelong windows user and so very close to switching to apple. I am set on the Macbook Air M1. Yet I just learned today that it has a wifi/bluetooth issue. Wifi keeps disconnecting, etc. I understand not everyone has this issue, but there is quite a lot who do.

Historically, when there is an issue like this, is it the hardware that is the issue or software? I am thinking software because one big reason I switched to Apple is because the hardware/build quality is consistently ranked first, and I really need a reliable laptop.

I guess I want to know if a fix has been found yet? Or if Apple will release a software update to address this?
