Posted: 21 Nov 2020 01:46 PM PST Hi everyone! I'm the developer of Amphetamine. I don't have an M1-equipped Mac, unfortunately, and don't know when I'll be able to get one. Someone put in a support ticket today saying that Amphetamine doesn't even launch on M1 Macs. Is there anyone who can test this out and let me know if it's working? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Big Sur 11.0.1 - Touch ID issue Posted: 22 Nov 2020 12:44 AM PST I 'm encountering a bug related to Touch ID that appeared since I upgraded to Big Sur. Macbook Pro 15" Late 2018 Big Sur 11.0.1 Very often when using Touch ID to unlock my computer I encounter this very weird bug. The lock screen disapears but the computer is actually still locked. I can't click anywhere nor use the keyboard. It took me a while to realize that I have to use Touch ID again to completely unlock it. I can't seem to find any information online about this issue and I'm wondering if it has already been reported. [link] [comments]
Ultrafine 5K + Apple M1 MacBook Pro Posted: 21 Nov 2020 08:48 PM PST So I just got an M1 MacBook Pro on Wednesday and I've been using it with an Ultrafine 5K monitor connected through a CalDigit TS3+ with no issues whatsoever. Today, I undocked the MacBook and when I tried to dock it again the resolution wasn't right. I checked System Report and under Displays, it said the Ultrafine 5K monitor was only running at 4K and the simulated resolution was 2048x1152. I have tried restarting, connecting the display directly to the MacBook, reseating all the cables, etc. The only thing I haven't tried is switching out the cable from the Ultrafine 5K monitor. Nothing online shows how to reset the SMC or NVRAM on the new Macs either. Anyone else running into this issue or know how to fix it? [link] [comments]

Apple unable to fix bricked mid-2014 MBP following Big Sur update Posted: 21 Nov 2020 05:23 AM PST Previously working MacBook with no issues. Was presented with a blank startup screen after updating to Big Sur. SMC/NVRAM/Recovery Boot methods didn't work. Brought my MacBook in for repair yesterday and was told today that it couldn't be repaired by an Apple store as it is a "vintage" model. Was also told I should probably buy a new MacBook by the employee. (Yes I should have waited several months / years before a major OS update - but I didn't expect a completely bricked and irreparable MBP from a recommended general release update.) Posted: 22 Nov 2020 02:05 AM PST Hi guys! I'm looking for a free app that is able to read any QR codes shown on screen, such as a code in a Youtube video, on a webpage or in an image, for example. Does anyone know if that exists? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Nov 2020 12:58 AM PST With Menu Bar set to AutoHide, it's always easy to accidentally trigger especially with tab-heavy applications like browsers. But, after installing Big Sur today, I'm noticing (in Firefox, for example) it's getting triggered and then freezing in place. It hides all my tabs until I can get rid of the bar. I usually hide the bar again by switching to another desktop panel and back. Also, when I opened something (system Settings) from Dock to disable the glitching Autohide feature, the menu bar hid again as soon as I opened Settings. I haven't tested outside of Firefox. Anyone else seeing this? [link] [comments]

Does your Mac still play the charging sound? Posted: 21 Nov 2020 02:24 PM PST Ever since I've updated the software on my computer to macOS Big Sur, I noticed that I wasn't able to get the charging sound effect indicator every time I plugged it in. Is this a bug or did they actually remove the sound? If they did, is there anyway I could put it back? Update: Just found out the sound only plays once the Mac is closed and then plugged in. Should I upgrade my MacBook Air (early 2015) to MacOS Big Sur? - App issue Posted: 21 Nov 2020 08:42 PM PST I've heard that it is not too convenient, but I need to download an app that requires a newer software (I have Mojave right now). Is it worth it to update it so I can download the app? Or is it more convenient to forget about the app and keep Mojave for better performance on this MacBook? Thanks in advance! Posted: 21 Nov 2020 08:42 PM PST This post is as much a plea for guidance as it is a full on vent of my recent experience with macOS. My device is a 2018 MacBook (not pro / not Air) and I was previously running Catalina on it with no issues. Then I tried to upgrade to Big Sur. The first mistake I made when deciding to upgrade was not backing up the contents of my machine onto an external drive. It wasn't until Big Sur was stuck at about 90% completion that I felt the regret. After 4 hours of no movement, I shut the computer down only to get stuck on the log in screen. A few days later, and no solution in sight, I decided to use the most recent time machine backup on my external drive (from Feb 2020). Since the MacBook only has one port (thanks Apple), and even at 100% battery charge, restoring in recovery mode was impossible because the computer kept dying before it could finish. I gave this up immediately. A day later I remembered that another drive of mine contained a time machine back up from 2019 with the contents of my old 2011 MacBook, running High Sierra. I tried restoring from there, and this actually worked. In 2 hours, my 2018 MacBook now had the contents of my old 2011 MacBook. I took a chance and updated to Big Sur, and somehow, there was no issue. It's hard to describe the feeling, but it was somewhere between frustration and excitement. For some reason, however, backup from the second external drive made two additional disks on my machine with the same name (Macintosh HD). I don't know how that happen considering I chose the same drive and selected "erase content", but they seem to be copies. Regardless, all I have to do now is move any important files from my most recent external drive to the machine and it'll be as if no data was lost. But, this was all an extremely frustrating experience, and I'm afraid that even if I had backed up my machine before the initial attempt to upgrade, I would have hit the same roadblock when trying to restore. The second drive saved me! Does anyone have a clue what the problem(s) was/are? Did I do something wrong? And seriously, wth is someone supposed to do if restoring takes longer than the battery life, with one port!! [link] [comments]
Mac Mini 2018 Kernel Panic Resuming From Sleep (Big Sur) Posted: 21 Nov 2020 08:33 PM PST Anyone else having an issue with Big Sur where it will kernel panic when resuming from sleep? I have a Mac Mini 2018 i7 with 64GB of RAM and an EGPU set up with my main drive also a TB3 M.2. After upgrading to Big Sur I get a kernel panic every time the computer wakes up from sleep. The Mini will either turn on the screen and freeze at the log in screen and then restart itself 3 times. The Apple logo will appear and then it will show the kernel panic screen. Then it restarts again and boots back into Big Sur. Apple replaced the logic board last month with a brand new one so it shouldn't be hardware related. Also this issue never happened with Catalina prior to installing Big Sur. Any ideas? Image of the panic report can be found here: Thanks! [link] [comments]

Posted: 21 Nov 2020 03:43 PM PST Just a note: I do not have access to a mac or the previous hdd I used ubuntu to recreate a recovery iso using InstallOSX.dmg from apple support page using the script here: https://gist.github.com/coolaj86/9834a45a6c21a41e8882698a00b55787 I've formatted the ssd to OS X Extended using guid partition map, MBR, apple partition map and they all give me the same error when I proceed to try in install when I select the hard disk in the option: 'This disk cannot be used to start up your computer' (see pic) The ssd in question is 60gb and I ran 'first aid' using the disk utility and there is no error. Messages app sign in problem in Big Sur Posted: 21 Nov 2020 12:13 PM PST I am having the problem, after I updated to Big Sur I was not able to sign in at all, I sign in, and about a few moments later it prompts me to sign in again. I re-installed macOS Big Sur, and it did not resolve my issue. Even restarting the MacBook Pro, and not using it for a few days didn't fix my issue. Any ideas how to solve this problem? Using external HDD for time machine exclusive or other usage possible? Posted: 21 Nov 2020 04:19 AM PST Dear friends, I just performed my first time machine backup and I noticed that the software required to completely delete the whole HDD first. Since there remains plenty of space on the HDD still, I wonder whether I can store additional data on the HDD as well. Or whether that might infer with the use of the time machine functionality in any way. [link] [comments] |
