iPad Pro Said to Adopt OLED Displays in Late 2021 Following Mini-LED Model in Early 2021

For anyone wondering, this is how a digital comics looks like on an 11 inch ipad pro compared to a real one. I say the size is just right for anyone who is into comics and manga.

[Question] Found these weird 1st gen iPads with holes cut out on the back - what are they for? (more details in comments)

Anyone know a good case for iPad Pro 2018 12.9" WITH room for a pencil in a silicon grip?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 11:57 AM PST

I have a thin, wireless charging capable grip on the pencil 2 but the case I currently have doesnt really support me placing the pencil on the edge for charging.

Mini review of Logitech Combo Touch versus Apple Smart Keyboard Folio

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 08:31 AM PST

So I recently posted a photo of my setup with the Logitech Combo Touch for the 10.2" iPad and one of the commentors asked me which keyboard case I found better, the Logitech or the Apple case. Since I had owned both cases before, I figured I was qualified enough to share a mini review with this sub.

So first of all, pricing wise they are almost exactly the same (in Singapore at least) so no comparisons to be made here. Secondly, in terms of lapability, I feel like both are on par with each other as well.

Now, moving on to the review of the Logitech Combo Touch~

    (+)

    • typing experience is a major major PLUS. this thing has actual key travel compared to the ASK and it makes for a wonderful typing experience overall.
    • the Logitech Combo Touch has a trackpad. Probably the main reason why I stuck with this case in the end but I'll get to that later
    • keyboard is backlit, something which the ASK lacks
    • has added row for function keys plus various features like locking the device or volume controls, another thing the ASK lacks
    • can adjust the angle of the kickstand as much as you like, whereas the Apple Keyboard Folio is stuck at a fixed angle
    • this thing is seriously protective. I haven't done any drop tests yet but I wouldn't even break a sweat dropping my iPad in this case.

    (-)

    • protection comes at a price. this thing is heavy as FUCK. i am not exaggerating when i say this. in fact it weighs almost the same as my 2019 MacBook Air which is kinda silly if you think about it
    • this thing also takes up a lot of space on the desk because of the kickstand at the back. if you compare it to the ASK, the ASK takes up nearly half the space of the Logitech
    • you gotta disconnect the keyboard every time you plan to use it in tablet mode AND theres no place to store the keyboard so its just sitting awkwardly there

In short, if you want a trackpad with your keyboard case, the Logitech Combo Touch is the only option out there since Apple doesn't make the Magic Keyboard for the base model iPads. If you value portability as well as the convenience of being able to switch from "laptop" mode to tablet mode, definitely get the Apple Smart Keyboard case.

Does anyone know about Apple Pen 1 pencil cap replacement equivalent for Apple Pen 2 that will allow it to be used as a traditional touchscreen stylus?

Could I have my iPad in the bathroom while I take a bath

iPad Air 4 Battery Life Disappointment

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 06:20 AM PST

Really enjoying my iPad Air 4 I got last month, but honestly the battery life hasn't been amazing. If I'm booting it up at 9am, by 12pm its already on 50% just on notes. Is this a standard battery life?

I do have the Apple Pencil too, but its only occasionally charging (I'd heard about the battery drain bug so I've made an effort to keep it unattached).

Apple says all physical damage, even screen defects, not covered by warranty?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 11:55 AM PST

My ipad developed a hairline crack. I didn't drop it or hit it. There's no impact of evidence, spider like cracks, anything.

I got in touch with Apple, supervisor there tells me physical damage is not covered under warranty, even if I didn't cause it. I got nowhere on the phone.

Is this your experience too? I now have an ipad with a crack in the screen due to no fault of my own, and I have to spend hundreds if I want to get it fixed.

Are there any accessories for syncing/charging an iPad Pro, with Lightning port?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 06:46 AM PST

I have an iPad Pro 10.5" with a Lightning port, and use a Lightning to USB-C Cable and USB C wall charger for fast charging. I use Duet Display, so I can use the iPad Pro as a second monitor, and that app uses a lot of battery.

https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MK0W2AM/A/lightning-to-usb-3-camera-adapter Would the Lightning to USB Camera Adapter let me charge/sync simultaneously (with a USB A to USB A cable for syncing, and lightning to USB C cable for charging from a wall charger)?

Does anyone have an iPad cheat sheet for beginners?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2020 06:59 PM PST

    hey guys

my dad has an iPad that was left by my mom. He wants to learn how to use it. I am typing something up to explain how to use it for some basic things. I am wondering if you guys know of any resources that might be helpful also. He is completely illiterate when it comes to technology so it would be something that can help a total beginner.

    thank you

    Alternatives for Shapr3D?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2020 09:59 PM PST

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I was wondering if there is any alternative 3D modeling apps that are close to Shapr3D. I love using Shapr3D on my iPad Pro, but I don't think I can afford the monthly/yearly subscription. I don't free or paid apps as long as they don't require any subscription based payments.

External microphone on iPad Pro 12” (2020)

    Posted: 22 Nov 2020 08:10 PM PST

I have a Samson G-Track Pro microphone I'd like to use externally with my iPad but I just can't seem to get it to work. I have a hyperdrive dongle which has support for USB and lightning. I plus both in and it powers the microphone (green light turns on) and I then plug the microphone into my iPad and nothing.

    Any ideas?

Why Don’t They Make White Cases for the Newer iPads?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2020 07:32 PM PST

I want a white folding/stand case. The only company that makes a white version is Apple, and it offers no protection.

Thoughts on changing from a 12.9 (3rd gen) to a Mini (5th gen)

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 02:30 AM PST

I've own the 12.9 since Jan 2019. I've been using the 12.9 primarily for university purposes, mainly for reading & annotating textbook PDFs with the occasional illustration work. Before buying it way back, I was dead set on the 12.9, I could fulfill my lifelong dream of being able to illustrate digitally on the go with PDF annotation... Till I experienced the caveats that I would brush away for the big screen. Despite being smaller and lighter than the previous-gen of 12.9, in the end, it still was kinda heavy and unwieldy for me. It was really uncomfortable and awkward of me to fork it out on public transportation to catch a read on my commute. I really love the real estate of it but the cons began to outweigh the pros for me. Pun unintended.

Then came the Mini. It's such a cute and nice size. I love how much lighter it was and how nicely webpages would look on it. That being said, my small-text textbooks need a bit of getting used to on this. I do use splitscreen to have the PDF open on one side and the other a browser to look up stuff, and it does get a little cramped. I'm not too sure if the 6th gen (rumored to be 8.4 inches) would fix this issue for me. I'm begrudging myself as I turn to look at the Air 4. Thinking of selling off the 12.9 in the process to get an M1 Macbook Air.

Any Mini users here experiencing a similar scenario? I'd like to hear your thoughts.

    Notability/GoodNotes External Storage

Is it possible to store Notability/GoodNotes notes on an external hard drive/SSD/USB for storage? Can I edit the notes directly off the USB drive?
