Does anyone else feel that Files app is not as powerful as it should be?

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 09:27 AM PST

It is slow, it gets stuck while copying large files, accessing external files is a mess. It lacks features that should be stable if apple really wants to market iPad as a 'computer' Even the Documents app is better, whixh I am using primarily.

Android has had native file management since the day one, ignoring the fact it has a different vision and architecture. Still apple can learn a thing or two.

What are some of your experiences with the file management on iOS?

Is there a way to use TouchID only for autofilling passwords without needing it for unlocking.

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 10:19 AM PST

I recently started to do a lot more work and web browsing once I got my new iPad Air 4 and I absolutely love it. One thing that throws me off tough is that there seems to be no way to use touch id to authorize the autofilling of passwords, purchases or entering into banking apps without setting a lockscreen password. The thing is I exclusively use my iPad at home where there is 0 threat of someone stealing it. So there is no need for me to set a lockscreen code, yet quickly authorizing a purchase would be nice - so my question is : Is there is a way to bypass this strange restriction by some way or setting?

I know on Android there is pretty cool feature called "Smart lock" which uses location data to keep the phone unlocked when I am at home. But I also didn't find anything in the settings app about something similar.

Matte vs Paper-Feel vs Tempered Glass vs No Screen protector?

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 05:36 AM PST

I recently bought an iPad pro 11" (with the Apple Pencil 2nd Gen) and I am extremely happy with it. I bought it mainly to help me taking notes in University.

I originally bought a tempered glass screen protector, but it made it almost impossible to write with as there was absolutely no friction between the Apple Pencil and the screen, so I ended up taking it off and just using the screen itself. I then went and got a Paper-Like screen protector, although it did feel better to write with, the screen permanently looked like I had dropped water on it.

I was wondering if the Matte screen protectors are any different from the Paper-like ones in terms of image degradation? I really dont want to have to ruin the beautiful screen, and if image quality is really that bad with all screen protectors, then I think I might have to go without one. Thoughts?

iPad Air no longer has the option to play 1080p on YouTube, any ideas?

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 12:35 PM PST

Hi, does anyone have the solution to why my iPad no longer plays 1080p on YouTube? I think I have an old iPad Air (one of the first to change over to the thin charger rather than the wide ones found on the old IPods).

The option to play 1080p was there a month or so ago but now all videos are restricted to 720p max?

    Thanks

External hard drive formatted on PC to iPad

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 12:03 PM PST

I have an external hard drive (with external power supply) with many terabytes of gopro footage. I always used a PC in the past while saving the files on the drive. I now have a new IPad Pro and I would like to access my files on the external hard drive. I bought a lighting usb to usb-c cable at first, then I bought a USB hub with external power supply. The iPad still doesn't recognize the external hard drive, and I suspect it could be because of formatting.

Any tips on how to deal with this? How to access my gopro footage files on the iPad?

I thought it would be as simple as connecting the hard drive to the PC and then connecting the iPad to the PC with a USB cable (via the iPad USB hub) but no luck there either. To upload my files to iCloud or file sharing would take too long as they are too large. Isn't there a way I could share them over my network? There's some app called file browser that claims to be able to do it for me but I would have to pay for the app? This issue has been frustrating me for a long time now and I would like to access my files. Didn't realize there would be so many issues in switching over to iPad.

    Edit: spelling :)

    Screen protector

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 12:37 PM PST

    Hey everyone, can someone help?

    CONTEXT:

I received my iPad air 4 in the post yesterday after a month of waiting and haven't taken off the white plastic covering it arrives with. I wanna use my Ipad to start note-taking for a module (from scratch) since exams are around a week away.
The screen protector I ordered hasn't come in the post yet, it's due in around two days.

    QUESTION:

If I open my Ipad and use it without a screen protector will it be a nightmare to clean and apply the screen protector when it arrives?

I really don't want bubbles or small dust on my Ipad display and I have never actually applied a screen protector in my life.

    SCREEN PROTECTOR BEING USED:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/ESR-Paper-Feel-Protector-Supports-Anti-Glare/dp/B07PMMFDWL
Me and a friend are splitting the cost so I only get 1 screen protector and 1 shot at it.

Some apps missing from iPadOS share sheet

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 09:23 AM PST

Hi, After iPadOS 14.2 update, I can't find the apps I normally use in the Share Sheet (even in the edits and suggestions of the vertical menu or the list from scrolling right of the app icons). The apps missing include Goodnotes, Navidys and Flexcil.

Please - can anyone explain how to do reverse image searches on my iPad (running iPadOS 14.2)?

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 06:19 AM PST

I've tried so many things! I've tried multiple, varied, synonymous and euphemistic search terms - nothing.

I downloaded Google photos app - nothing.

I'm keen to reverse search images of vintage furniture and vintage women's accessories. Sincere gratitude for anyone who takes time to help!

    ZUGU Case + Screen Protector

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 06:39 AM PST

I just got my iPad Pro in the mail this week. I had ordered a ZUGU case and a screen protector to facilitate writing on the iPad (similar Paperlike).

The link below shows what happened when I put the case on, I got bubbling at the edges. I let the screen protector sit over 12 hours on the iPad prior to putting it in the case. It doesn't look like you could apply it with the case already on.

    https://imgur.com/f7YAVW1

One review of the ZUGU case said that it was not compatible with screen protectors. Can anyone confirm/deny this? Or offer a successful strategy?

I have one screen protector left....and they were not as expensive as Paperlike, but also not cheap. Thank you in advance for any feedback or tips.

    Notability or Good notes????

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 01:50 PM PST

    I study engineering, 2nd-year uni,

My lectures are recorded and I usually take notes by annotating pdf, pictures, drawing quick diagrams and practising a lot of questions mathematically.

I like my notes to be ordered easily separated into the modules I study.

What're the big downsides of Notability or Goodnotes?

I am currently leaning towards good notes TELL ME WHY I SHOULDN'T :P

(This thread is mainly just to glance over at any last-minute remarks and opinions of others)

    iPad Air 4 Case

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 01:35 PM PST

What is the best inexpensive iPad air case that is most comparable to the conventional Apple folio case? I don't have a pencil and will not be getting one.

I know ESR gets high marks in this sub so is this the move? ESR Slim Case or maybe this MoKo case

Or is there another brand I should go with or perhaps should I just spring for the Apple case?

    60Hz vs 120Hz (Air 2020 vs Pro 11" 2018) for note taking

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 01:22 PM PST

Is there a noticeable difference between 60Hz and 120Hz in note taking apps like GoodNotes 5 or Notability? Are these apps using the 9ms latency framework? What do you suggest?

Is it harmful to let battery deplete completely every so often?

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 04:06 AM PST

Not on purpose, I mean if I forget to charge or I'm out and not able to access a charger? Have read depleting can damage battery but surely it's inevitable if you can't get to a charger?

    When is multicore needed?

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 04:16 AM PST

The iPad Pro has a better multicore performance than the Air. But what does this mean? Which tasks will require a better multicore performance? Do I need singlecore or multicore for illustration?
