Weekly /r/iOSGaming Discussion - What have you been playing lately and what do you recommend? - November 23, 2020

    Posted: 22 Nov 2020 08:10 PM PST

Please use this thread to discuss whatever iOS games you've been playing lately. They don't have to be new games, they can be old games and they do not have to be iOS original titles!

As long as it's an iOS game it belongs in here. Make sure to put the name(s) of the game(s) in bold to make it easier for people skimming the thread to see what you're talking about, and if you'd like to make it really convenient turn the game name into a hyperlink that sends people directly to the App Store!

To keep track of the thread, the comments are sorted by "new" by default.

Warning: don't buy an Xbox Series X|S controller for iOS gaming yet

    Posted: 22 Nov 2020 01:07 PM PST

I'm certain many are already aware that the new generation of gaming console controllers are not officially supported on iOS/iPadOS, but I found out the hard way by picking up the controller on an extremely good discount. The controller does pair with your iPhone but is not recognized in games. Here's hoping iOS 14.3 brings support...

Game Recommendations for a month offline with my iPad 10.2"

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 05:30 AM PST

    Hello people,

first of all, sorry for my english, no native speaker. First time posting here too.

In about a week from today I'm going on a medical rehab and I'll be there for at least 5 weeks. I got the info from the clinic that there might be WiFi, but not in the rooms of the patients. I don't plan on using the WiFi in the big entrance hall of the clinic, so I'm going to stay offline.

So I wanted to ask you guys for a few recommendations for iPad Gaming, with the ability to play offline. I own the 10,2 iPad, bought it earlier this year.

Is it worth to get Apple Arcade for that time? I read that the games on Arcade work offline, is that so?

Im a big gamer on PC and several consoles, but never really used my iPad to play on. So maybe you got some good tips for me? If possible, games you can enjoy without a controller. Genre is not important, I like to play a lot of different games.

Thank you very much in advance.

    Cheers from Germany

I‘ve got an idle game sized hole in my heart. Suggestions?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 02:21 AM PST

I love idle games, but only the ones where I have my 1 character that grows stronger and not my company, my farm, my city or whatever. Games like Tap Titans and Egg Inc. bore me relatively quickly. I guess I need that RPG feel.

As a baseline, the perfect idle game for me so far was Tap Busters but that game is finite and has a max stage which I reached so yeah.

Any idle games like that around that you would recommend?

    Knights and Merchants for iOS?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 03:46 AM PST

So frankly the only game I've ever really enjoyed for hours and hours is this old PC game called Knights and Merchants. It's a medieval style RTS in which you have to build up an economy in order to build up your armies so you can defeat your enemies. The fighting isn't a very big part of the game and many hours are spent waiting for crops to grow and iron to be welded.

I'd love to play something similar on my iPad. Medieval style, slow-paced, preferably not centred around IAP's. Any advice?

Any games where you "risk" items?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 06:01 AM PST

I enjoy games where I can put up something of mine against someone else. So lately I've been playing s lot of racing games where you race for pink slips.

Does anyone know of any other games or even some more drag racing type games like this? It can be any genre. There used to be an old card game where if you lost you would lose a random card in your deck to your opponent.

I know there is runescape and the duel arena but I'm looking for something else

Edit: I play crs 2, rush racing 2, and asphalt street storm (which asphalt was a great game but it's closing down in December)

    Aeon wars (MMCV)

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 05:21 AM PST

Does anyone here remember the game aeon war (formally MMCV, yes that was a terrible name originally). It was a space based war game with a board players were able to deploy and navigate armies around. Armies could be made up of any combination of units with different advantages. After 24-48 hours whichever faction had held the most territory for the longest won and had access to a premium resource. There was a full economy in the game where players were able to buy resources or units from each other.

The game was made by smlsd a company that was massively popular (albeit short lived) for their other hit cartel wars. They're hey day seemed to be 2009-2013 if I recall.

For anyone that remembers, Are there any other games like this? The strategizing in this game was incredible between the economy and alliances planning for wars. I've never been able to find another game as intricate and fascinating as this. I did search Reddit and there was a similar post asking this question but it had no answers.

Any games with absolutely zero commitment?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2020 01:55 PM PST

Looking for something to play when bored, but it wouldn't keep me addicted why I'm busy. Stuff like city building, and log in rewards keep me hooked.

We can handle more buttons right?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2020 06:19 PM PST

Dead cells has so many buttons but even I have reached 5 bc with more skill based sets instead of setup based sets. We can have more buttons right? Pls pls pls people keep saying we can only handle two with efficiency so they would never port but now we can. Maybe the original fallouts? Or maybe fallout in a top down view so people's devices can handle it.

Anyone know if Pascal's Wager supports 120hz on 2nd gen iPad Pro?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2020 11:58 AM PST

I see conflicting things searching here.

One user said they tweeted "no" the other says they tweeted that if it is a device that has 120hz then yes
