simple strength - A minimalist tracking utility for weight lifting

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 11:20 AM PST

simple strength | Quick Look | Open Beta - Test Flight
I never really clicked with fitness apps because of all the complex features when all I really cared for is if my lifts were going up. So I made a purist tracking utility focussed on user experience while maintaining functionality. I'd love for any help with beta testing, link above!

simple strength is a portfolio/collection of all the lifts you care to record. Every single workout like "bench press" or "bicep curls" has its own dedicated page + graph, and you can view your entire lifting history pertaining to the lift like you're looking at receipts.

It makes it clear whether your sessions are progressing, stagnant, or regressing because you can just scroll down to see what level you were lifting at previously. You'll get context to the weight you're lifting so you're not lifting at arbitrary numbers - i.e. if you haven't done an exercise in a while and you're wondering what's an appropriate weight to hop on, you can refer to your past lifting logged sessions.

It's weird but it somehow helps me stay focussed on improving the lift at hand rather than trying to just get the entire workout done. It provides a meaning to the numbers I'm trying to push beyond rather than trying to fulfill a quota, because my yesterday's numbers were the ones that set that standard.

If you could give it a shot I'd love to see what you think and get some insight for the development!

    Apple Search? A close approach

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 02:18 PM PST

So Apple's been recently on the news for reportedly working on an alternative to Google Search. Right now the best alternative to Google is, in my opinion DuckDuckGo as it ensures privacy along handful features such as widgets and quick information panels. I have made this UserScript that you can use with Tampermonkey (or Userscripts extension for macOS Safari) to install it. It revamps the DuckDuckGo interface and makes it look more Appleish.

You can find the script on Greasy Fork or GitHub.

    To Do:

    • Update  Search icon as dark theme is enabled (if someone knows how to do it hmu)
    • Integrate a Siri-like interface for quick search items
    • Add a menu with Apple Services (and other websites) like the Google one
    • And much more...

Keep in mind that Userscripts on Safari don't work quite as well as they do on Firefox and Chromium based browsers. For example, the favicon will not change unless you replace the cached DuckDuckGo icon on finder. (You can replace the icon located on ~/Library/Safari/Favicon Cache/favicons: QuickLook through the items and locate the DuckDuckGo one, download the icon: https://gofile.io/d/zDO1lg, rename the file with the same name as the DuckDuckGo icon you located and move it to the folder. Restart Safari and now you should see an updated icon.)

That being said, I highly recommend using Safari as it's the only browser that ensures privacy through search results and websites.

If you would like to see other features don't hesitate to tell me.

Paku for PurpleAir just got its biggest update yet, featuring a map with ever air quality sensor

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 02:08 PM PST

Hey everyone! I launched the first version of Paku with a lot on the todo list.

Today, I'm launching the first big update - an actual map you can use to browse PurpleAir sensors! This makes it a lot more useful, and loads the sensors way faster than the website. It's been super useful for checking my biking routes before I head out.

Check it out, and let me know what you think!

Newst: A new way to get the news that you’re interested in

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 06:18 AM PST

Hello! I just released my first iOS app to the App Store! 🎉

Newst gives you a new way to get the news you're interested in, and it also supports widgets so you can be always up-to-date.

Other news apps let you select specific websites or RSS feeds to follow. Newst can get news from the web by keywords or specific topics that intrests you. Newst also support standard features that other apps have like headlines and local news.

Every article takes the entire screen with a beautiful preview, and a swipe up takes you to the full article in Reader Mode.

The free version lets you add 5 sources to your feed, and in the future it will have ads (but nothing intrusive).

Newst Pro removes ads and lets you add more than 5 sources, and it's 50% off until Nov 8!

[Self-Promo] I just released my music practice journal app for iPhone, Andante!

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 07:05 AM PST

Hi /r/apple! I'm a musician in college and I'm really excited to share the practice journal app I've been working on for a long time! It's helped me and my friends who've tested it and I can't wait to see how others use it. Even if you're not a musician, try downloading it and seeing if it can help you with other crafts/arts like writing, meditating, or freelancing!

Get it for free on the App Store

See more on my marketing website

    About the app

Andante is a musical term that describes a simple, walking pace; it feels calm and serene while also constantly moving forward with intention. That idea is what drove the creation of this app - creating a music practice journal that promotes calm, meditative practice as you progress through your musical journey.

Andante does this in a few ways. It provides one place to keep a log of your practice sessions as well as a journal where you can write about anything you want, so you don't have to keep track of everything in your head. You can track your mood and focus to identify patterns in your practicing so you can achieve the most meditative, productive practice possible. You can keep yourself motivated to keep moving forward with intention by setting goals and seeing charts.

    Features

    • Practice live with a timer, metronome, and audio recorder or manually add sessions with ease.
    • Track your mood and focus and see charts that help you understand your practicing.
    • Streak counter to motivate you to practice every day.
    • Daily practice goals take streaks even further by setting how long you want to practice each day. See your daily goal progress on your Home Screen with iOS 14 Home Screen widgets.
    • Charts and data. Visualize your progress with calendars and charts. See your practice time over the last 7 days, last month, or last year. See when you have the best mood by seeing trends between mood and time of day. And so much more!
    • Minimalist design. It's important that nothing gets in the way of your practicing. Andante is designed to be as clean and simple as possible while still providing robust features.

    About me

My name is Miles, and I'm a musician in college. I originally started making Andante to help myself with my violin practice, and I would work on it every day to add features that would help me even more. Once I started giving it to friends and seeing how it helps people stay motivated, I was encouraged to take the project very seriously and make Andante as excellent as possible. I hope that Andante can help with your practice journey!
