Original iPhone 12 pro clear case cracked in a week of use. I have removed the phone out of it 3 times so far and very gently too. Both corners have cracks. Anyone else have this issue?

    Iphone 6s to Iphone 12

Its been a great 4 years with my 6s but I finally upgraded!! So far I am loving the 12. Its fast, responsive, the camera is excellent and the battery life seems to be quite good as well, especially if you compared it to my old 6s. Anyone else here also just upgrade from a 6s?

IPhone 12 Pro Max - 47% bigger sensor

    Posted: 31 Oct 2020 05:45 AM PDT

I have a question: what do they actually mean by the Pro Max having a 47% larger sensor? In comparison to what? To the 1/2.55" of the Pro or in comparison to the 1.44 um pixel size?

What is the actual sensor size of the Pro Max?

iphone 12 pro vs pro Max.

    Posted: 31 Oct 2020 07:43 AM PDT

I am planning on upgrading my Samsung Galaxy S9+ to the new iphone 12 pro. I am debating on which pro model to get, the regular one or the Max.

I tend to lean towards larger phones as my S9+ has a 6.2 inch screen. The regular iphone 12 pro seems to be almost the same size as my S9+ with the pro Max almost having a 7 inch screen. If I would choose today I would go for the pro max but I am worried that the phone might be too large. I have a 12.9 inch iPad pro I would just use this if I need a large screen. I don't really use my phones one handed so I am not worried about that, I have rather small hands and I am worried it will be uncomfortable to hold.

I plan on keeping this phone for at least 4 years so I'm not sure if the pro max offers additional benefits over the regular pro model except a larger battery. Battery life is one of the main reasons I am switching as the S9+ is just abysmal.

    Prices (Canada) Unlocked:

    iPhone 12 pro: $1399 128GB

    iPhone 12 pro Max: $1549 128GB

Prices is not really an issue, as I'd rather spend $1500 for a iphone every 4 years than buying a $1000 flagship android device that barely lasts 2 years. I previously had an iphone 6 that lasted almost 5 years, but saving money is always better.

Would you go for pro max or regular pro?

    iPhone 12/pro yellow screen tint

    Posted: 31 Oct 2020 09:05 AM PDT

Hello all! Recently I have read some of your posts about the yellow screen tint problem in the new iPhone 12/pro OLED screens. I didn't think much of this problem until I received my 12 pro and noticed that with True Tone on, my screen had a strong yellow tint to it when compared to my Xr. When True Tone is turned off, the 12 pro screen is much warmer/darker than the Xr even with brightness turned all the way up on both phones. After reading many posts and articles about this issue, I suggested to the mods of r/iPhone that should talk about this. With the help of the mods were creating a poll to see if this is a common issue!

IMPORTANT TIPS ON CHECKING THIS ISSUE

The very best way to check on this issue is to compare to a different iPhone while bringing the screen brightness on both iPhones to 75%. DO NOT USE ANOTHER 12 MODEL. They might already have the same issue.

If you do not have another iPhone to compare I suggest toggling your True Tone option on and off. This might help to make the yellow tint more visible to you as you might've gotten used to it by now.

You could also try comparing your phone to a display phone at a retail store. DO NOT use the new 12 models.

Option 1- Yellow tint or darker/warmer screen

Option 2- No screen issue present

Edit- Please upvote if you vote in this poll! It's important that we get this out to as many people as possible! View Poll

The iPhone 12 mini screen width is (almost) identical to the screen width of the 6/7/8

    Posted: 31 Oct 2020 06:49 AM PDT

I realized this earlier while looking at screen resolution and dpi info. The 12 mini has a higher resolution than the 8, but also a higher pixel density, making the physical screen width almost exactly the same.

Device Pixel width PPI Screen width (in.)
    iPhone 8 750 326 2.300
    iPhone 12 mini 1080 476 2.268

That's a difference of 1.4% — probably imperceptible in actual use. The UI is also laid out at the same scale for both devices (375 points wide), so buttons and icons will appear the same size as well.

A lot of people have been thinking of the 12 mini as a new size of device, somewhere between the original SE and the 8/SE2. But in terms of the interface and user experience, it's really more like a modified 8 — with slimmer bezels and a screen that goes edge-to-edge vertically.

Hope that's helpful to anyone else interested in the mini!

Long term users , how are the buttons over the years

    Posted: 31 Oct 2020 07:41 AM PDT

People who use a single iphone for a long duration of time, 2-3-4 years. How have the buttons held up on your devices. I have gotten an SE 2020, and this is my first iphone and I've heard the power and mute buttons tend to break or loose functionality over time. I plan to keep this phone for as long as I can so should I be worried about breaking the buttons and use assistive touch or they dont break with normal usage?

Really subtle, but I love how the official cases on the 12 let a little bit of the aluminum show on the sides so I can still see the color of the phone also side note, silicone cases this year are much better! They don’t have that insane grip that made pulling it out of your pocket impossible.

Folks who got a 12 Pro: do you feel the LIDAR actually improved autofocus?

    Posted: 31 Oct 2020 09:33 AM PDT

I need to replace my X that I've had for years, and I'm stuck between the 12 and 12 Pro. I like the Pro, but not sure if it's worth the $150 premium. A telephoto lens and AR aren't really things I've been needing in my life. However, better AF is always welcome, so do you feel the LIDAR made a noticeable improvement for the 12 Pro's autofocus performance?

iPhone 12 - One Week Real World Review

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 01:47 PM PDT

So this time last week I was babying a brand new piece of cutting edge technology - expensive, beautiful in blue, and very exciting to finally have.

I'd been rocking an 8 plus for 3 years, but a couple of months ago gave it the old drop and smash. So I pulled out an old cheap 7 I bought for an old job. It was laggy, little, couldn't keep more than two apps open, the camera was very uninspiring... but it did the trick, and I'd see if the 12 launch could hype me enough to part with my money.

I'm big into photography, but I'm also very frugal with tech purchases... even so I expected I would plump for the 12 pro, but looking at the specs - the only thing I could see worthwhile was a telephoto lens...

Anyone that has studied photography knows that we already carry the best zoom lens known to man - it's called our feet. And I'm much more into run and gun 30mm-ish street shooting so I really couldn't justify it...

Anyone concerned about the standard blue 12 colour... look at one. It's fantastic.

But it's now it's just in a case anyway.

Coming straight from the 7 - at first the phone seemed HUGE and I regretted not waiting for the mini.

But now I'm now used to it.

All of the playing with and inspecting and all the internal debates with myself about this phone purchase have now gone.

After a week, it just turns into what it was designed for.

    It's a phone.

    You get used to it.

You take it everywhere. It's great. In fact it's the best.

But it is just a tool, you take it for granted, and it just fits into your life.

That's the power of iPhone. It just fits.

This sets the standard of Mobile Telephone 2020.

So see you all in 4/5 years time!

    Magic apple warranty question

    Posted: 31 Oct 2020 10:22 AM PDT

I brought my Apple charging cable and power brick to the Apple store today since the cable wasn't working. They took my cable and brick to the back and when they came back I'm pretty sure I saw my account on their iPad.

They then* asked for my phone number and we were good to go.

Was I imagining things or is there some sort of link/identifier between my cable/brick and Apple ID? Otherwise, how did my Apple ID appear on their iPad before I gave them my number?

How long can an iPhone record video for?

    Posted: 31 Oct 2020 09:59 AM PDT

I've never owned an iPhone before, but I'm blown away by the new video specs.

I'm thinking to get an iPhone 12 to use for some filmmaking. One purpose would be to record long-form conversations (podcasts), meaning the iPhone would need to record for 1 hour (or longer) at a time.

Does anyone have experience recording very long video clips before? Can you tell me:

    1. Is the iPhone 12 capable of recording 60mins + without stopping the clip (on Canon, for instance, it automatically cuts at 29 mins 59 seconds, and I have to restart a new clip each time)

    2. Can the iPhone's battery life withstand an hour + of record time, or would that drain it completely?

    Thanks!
