I spent an entire day on a Series 6 Apple Watch ONLY using cellular data. Here's what I found.

(For whatever reason the Mods of this sub deleted my old post so I'm re-writing this all over again, sorry if you already saw this post yesterday. Not my fault. Really appreciate all the Awards everyone gave me on the original post!)

*update the mods banned me for no reason so I can't respond to comments. Sorry, will try and DM as many comments as I can. Cheers!

Wanted to do a little test for everyone in the sub that might be interested in how far along you can get using just a Series 6 Apple Watch on Cellular Data.

Tested my 44mm Series 6 this week using ONLY a Cellular connection, no WiFi, no iPhone connection; I wanted to see if it was possible to make it through most of or an entire day only using an Apple Watch and only using cellular data. No WiFi, no iPhone Bluetooth Connection.

A little about the settings I had turned on:

    • Always On Display Off
    • Background App Refresh: only the essentials, messages, Facebook messenger, email, weather, news, stocks, music, maps
    • Display Brightness 50%
    • Sound Off

Throughout the day I read and/or responded to dozens of texts, emails, news, stocks, Siri commands, used Apple Pay, GPS, listened to stored music, a couple podcasts, checked Reddit and Twitter occasionally. Logged into Amazon to check tracking on a package.

I got 14hrs and 16min before it finally died. GPS seemed to drain the battery the most, my headphones use Bluetooth 5.0 which is low power, music had very little to no noticeable affect on hour to hour battery life. Below is an hour by hour comprehensive breakdown.

    7:00am - 100% Battery

    8:00am - 96% Battery

    9:00am - 89% Battery (2 Apple Pay purchases)

10:00am - 84% Battery (Listened to 1 hour of stored music + podcast on Bluetooth 5.0 Headphones)

    11:00am - 77% Battery

    12:00pm - 70% Battery (1 FourSquare Search, 7min of GPS)

    1:00pm - 59% Battery

    2:00pm - 54% Battery

3:00pm - 51% (Listened to 1 hour of stored music Bluetooth 5.0 Headphones)

4:00pm - 43% Battery (Listened to 1 hour of stored music + podcast on Bluetooth 5.0 Headphones)

    5:00pm - 37% Battery

    6:00pm - 25% Battery

    7:00pm - 19% Battery

    8:00pm - 10%

    9:00pm - 4%

    9:16pm - Dead

Conclusion. One could easily make it through an entire day on a Series 6 Cellular with no other data alternatives, enjoy music without consequence, text, message, check news and stocks, short workouts, use Apple Pay.

Once you start using things like GPS, streaming music, phone calls or any other HEAVY data using tasks, that's when you'll start to rip through the battery.

If you can connect to WiFi for even a couple hours through out the day I see no reason why one couldn't go a full 15 hours on a single Apple Watch charge with responsible app usage.

Hope this helps anyone who was wondering what you can really do with the Cellular Series 6 solely dependent on cellular data.

Still accurate during the day! Always on altimeter really good!

It’s too bad I cannot trigger a shortcut with my Apple Watch battery level. Am I the only one that would use that feature?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 02:22 AM PDT

[Series 3] This is a very useful reminder from the new sleep functionality: notifying me exactly 1 hour before going to sleep that my battery is low.

Been slowly growing the collection over the years! I’ll probably need a new place to store them soon

Volume control from watch doesn’t always work. (Spotify)

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 04:52 AM PDT

So I've noticed sometimes the volume control from the watch crown won't always work. I primarily use Spotify which then opens two apps on my watch, Spotify and the "now playing" app. Anyone know why? I think it may be conflicting with my volume control.

The built in sleep statistics are subpar

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 05:53 AM PDT

Hello, maybe I'm missing something but are the built in sleep statistics terrible for anyone else?

Other apps have much better sleep statistics but I enjoy the ease of using the built in sleep tracking.

Are there any apps that show the stats better when using the Apple sleep tracking? Or am I missing something in the health settings?

Still poking around and exploring new watch and os. Turned off always on screen and battery life is much improved in my experience. What are some the newer features everyone is using more of?

    Un-removable passcode

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 07:45 AM PDT

    Hi guys,

    I have an iPhone 11 and AW5.

I use my iPhone for personal and work usage and work pays the phone bill.

My AW5 was working well until my work introduced multi factor authentication to my work emails - I have to receive an additional call or confirm a text when trying to log in to my office 365 account on my phone.

Now that they have introduced this my AW5 is always making me use a passcode to get into it even when on the wrist, and in settings turning it off is greyed out! Can anyone help??

What do you store your bands in?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 07:35 AM PDT

Like most likely a lot of you, I have a LOT of bands for my S6. What do you use to store them so they aren't in a jumble in the junk drawer? I found a couple on Amazon I am considering purchasing, but I was hoping to see some cool ideas from you guys!

    Reorder lists in reminders app

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 05:18 AM PDT

I have a shopping list in the reminders app that I tick off items when I'm shopping.

At the moment, I need to scroll past the 4 smartlists (today, flagged etc) which I don't use to get to the shopping list every time.

On the iPhone there is an option to reorder or not display lists, is this not possible on the watch?

Before I buy my series 6 I need to answers to one thing.

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 02:26 AM PDT

Hello all, I've had my series 3 for about 2 years now and it's time for an upgrade, but before I pick my watch and band and order it, I do need to know one thing.

Does anyone know, or can anyone who already has their series 6 tell me if the new rubber solo loop is the same material as the original silicone rubber ish bands the original out of the box bands the series 3 and others came with?

The reason I'm asking is because I am apparently allergic to the original band that came with my series 3 and because there is no apple store anywhere near me I had to suffer for about a week before I could pick up a new one.

I've also seen a lot of people complain about being allergic to the original bands and at this point I'm kinda surprised apple hasn't changed the material or just offered some of the non rubber solo bands at the same price, not $100 more.

    Series 5 lag

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 06:02 AM PDT

So I just got my series 5 with cellular yesterday, ordered an SE but cancelled it and got an S5. This is my first apple watch and everything is great but my watch keeps lagging sometimes. This is most noticeable while switching faces by swiping and sometimes apps take 2-3 taps to open. And so far battery life hasn't been great took it off the charger at 8:30AM, its down tk 10% now(6:30PM) 100% on wifi and with a 20 min run with music streaming from the watch to Bluetooth earphones

Is the lag normal? And any tips to improve the battery.

watchOS 7 and always on, but no raise to wake: a nice new thing I noticed

    Posted: 01 Oct 2020 06:55 PM PDT

If you have the screen always on but raise to wake off, you can just swipe from the top and bottom to see notifications/settings. I am pretty sure that it didn't do this prior to the OS update and it's just nice!

I've got an Apple Watch 5 for what its worth

Looking for an AW money tracking app

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 03:39 AM PDT

Hello! (sorry for my bad english) I was looking for an app just like Spendy, but with Apple Watch complication, to see my actual available money, but i cant find one... Maybe someone know an app like im looking for? I already tried Buddy, but the complication don't work, and its not like Spendy (just record incomes and spendings, and see how much money you have, no monthly salary or other)

    Watch/phone alarm

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 04:50 AM PDT

Whenever I'm sleeping with my watch series 4 on, the alarm doesn't go off on my phone. It only vibrates on the watch. I'm sure I'm missing an easy settings change but I can't find it. Phone and watch are on most current updates. Any ideas on how to make the phone alarm ring while wearing my watch to sleep? Thanks.

    Solo loop alternative

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 04:49 AM PDT

Hello is there anywhere to buy a solo loop for the Apple watch series 5 besides the Apple website? Like a $20 or so alternative from Amazon (although I can't find any). On a budget and essentially it's just an all around silicone band, which shouldn't be hard to make. Thanks for any help
