iPhone Pickup Experience - Kudos to Apple

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 10:45 AM PDT

I picked up my new iPhone 12 Pro this morning at an Apple Store in Michigan and I was really impressed with Apple's setup.

Approaching the store, there were a half dozen employees ready to guide customers and verify they were arriving at the scheduled pickup time. The queue (which was empty for me when I checked in) was clearly marked for social distancing. A security guard took my temperature and then a specialist met me to lead me into the store.

Once inside, there were only 4 customers in the store at a time, all spread out. Everyone stayed 6 feet apart at all times - even through handing off phones etc. Lots of opportunities for hand sanitizer etc. Everyone wore masks. They came back after each person and sanitized the counter where people were standing.

The whole process was quick and very smooth. It took me only about 10 minutes to trade in my 11 Pro and pick up my 12 Pro.

Super impressed with Apple today. Great to see them adjusting well to pandemic requirements.

AirPods mute when holding phone to ear - intentional feature?!

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 10:49 AM PDT

I'm not sure if this is actually just a coincidental bug but it seems 100% reproducible and pretty intentional to me.

If I have my AirPods Pro connected to Apple TV but also have audio playing out my iPhones speaker (baby monitor via Nanit), when I hold my iPhone speaker to my ear in order to check on the baby then the AirPods sound mutes. The TV doesn't pause, just no sound comes out of both AirPods until I move my phone away.

Very useful! Especially when noise cancellation is on.

Intentional known or unknown feature, or a fortuitous radio / NFC interference bug no one else experiences?
