Is it normal for Bootcamp to underperform on the 2020 MacBook Air as compared to the older MacBooks? Posted: 01 Sep 2020 09:38 PM PDT I just got myself a 2020 MacBook Air today, and installed Hyperdimensional Neptunia 1 and 2 from Steam, but neither game is working - it just gives me an error message saying 'Sorry, Application has crashed'. I have no issues running the game at all on Bootcamp on my 2014 MacBook Pro. Also, there's another (non-Steam) game which audio isn't working on my new Mac, and once again, it worked perfectly on my older Mac. I tried googling the error messages (something about the IAudioClient having an initialise error, something about WASAPI not being intialised etc) but to no avail. I wonder if Apple doesn't support older Windows drivers for bootcamp anymore or something. Is it supposed to perform that terribly in Bootcamp? [link] [comments]
Is there a way to force 10.7.5 to update to newer OS? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 01:22 AM PDT Am running 10.7.5 on an iMac from circa 2006 -- the white body ones. According to Apple's official docs, it isn't possible to update the OS, ie. 10.7.5 is as high as I can go on this particular iMac. But am wondering whether anyone knows of a way to force an update? Am asking because the iMac still works fine and seems like a real waste to get rid it. [link] [comments]

"Push Button" Video Recording Software? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 01:05 AM PDT Hey all. If you've tried to record video of you speaking before, you'll know that it can take many "takes" to get it right. Often I'm at take 3 or 4 before I've got a take worth keeping. But ... My current workflow (which totally sucks) is this ...
This is brutal. It results in a very long Screenflow/video with mostly crappy takes that have to now be tediously edited out. A much better workflow would be:
Is there an MacOS app that has this kind of functionality? Current setup is Macbook Pro with Sony A6400 as webcam. Thanks in advance if anyone can point me in the right direction here. [link] [comments]
Calendar custom color does not work Posted: 02 Sep 2020 12:59 AM PDT I've got a few calendars and when I want to change the color of them they change back after a few seconds to their previous color or to one of the 7 main colors. It simply does not want to stay the color that I select. I've had this bug already a very long time but I was wondering if there is a solution since I couldn't find one. Bug also mentioned before: https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/dfh47e/annoying_catalina_bug_with_calendar/ [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Sep 2020 11:45 PM PDT macOS standard, macOS extended or APFS formatted? I want to place my iCloud Photos library on it and ideally I can mount the drive using Archlinux as to have an accessible Photo library backup... [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Sep 2020 10:51 PM PDT Hey, I've used this app for a long time, recently I did a screenshot of Notion app and got my account blocked and now they say I have to pay because it's commercial use, when I've always used it just for personal use... 🤦♂️ (I even have free personal student plan in Notion btw). Any good app that works well and doesn't analyze your behavior? And one from developers that aren't greedy? [link] [comments]
Big Sur is PAINFULLY slow on my iMac (2017) Posted: 01 Sep 2020 02:23 PM PDT Since I've downloaded Big Sur beta on my personal device everything runs painfully slow and I get the spinning umbrella every other minute. Watching any YouTube video is impossible because if the lag and skipping. Audio is choppy as well. I have to literally restart my computer every time I wake it up because the longer it stays on the worse it's performance. This has to be the worst beta experience I have ever been through. Right-clicking on the Finder icon in the Dock on macOS Catalina help Posted: 01 Sep 2020 08:17 PM PDT Whenever I right-click on the Finder icon it gives me a list of previous folders I've been which I find extremely irritating. I know that I have been able to disable this in the past but I cannot for the life of me remember how to. Halp? [link] [comments]

Question for APFS and (spinning disk hard drives) Posted: 01 Sep 2020 02:02 PM PDT So I have an 8 terabyte Western Digital hard drive that I use for manual backups and other storage (I'm not using Time Machine on this particular drive). I originally had the drive formatted to Mac OS Extended then later decided to have my files encrypted. So not wanting to find a place for about 5 TB of storage I found the right-click menu to encrypt my disk without formatting. After setting a password I then noticed that without any warning or message it also changes the format to APFS instead of Mac OS Extended Encrypted. When APFS first came out people were saying that it was significantly slower on spinning drives than the normal macOS format. So my questions are, is APFS still slower on spinning drives because it's writing in random sectors, What is the difference between encryption on APFS and Mac OS Extended encrypted, Are there any downsides to use APFS or any downsides for staying on Mac OS Extended (On external HDD's). I don't use the drive enough to determine if it's slower or not I just want to make sure it's not working extra hard. TLDR:

Missing security options in Safari Posted: 01 Sep 2020 05:14 PM PDT Hello, I for the life of me cannot figure out what the issue is here. I want Safari to stop automatically downloading PDF's and just open them in the browser (like Chrome or Firefox). When googling how to do this, I came across an article, which directed me to Safari>Preferences>Security>Website Settings. However, when I got to Security, the only things I can do is check/uncheck boxes for Fraudulent Sites and Web Content - Enable JavaScript. Under Web Content, I do not have options for Block Pop up Windows or Allow WebGL, and the Internet Plug-ins option is missing completely. Anyone know how to help? This is the link I am referring to, and you can see a screenshot on Step 2 for Safari. My window ends at Enable JavaScript. https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-in-browser.html Thanks! Unable to Troubleshoot AirPlay Not Working/Icon Not Appearing (iMac) Posted: 01 Sep 2020 04:42 PM PDT Hi all, like the title says I'm having a rough go of it trying to enable AirPlay on my iMac. I've gone down the rabbit hole trying to find a solution, but still no luck after installing latest updates on all devices, assuring both devices are using same wifi network, restarting device, etc. While searching for an answer I found others who've had the same issue over the last 1-2ish years, however, none of those cases were resolved/updated and I'd really appreciate any suggestions ya'll may have. Specifically, the main problem I'm having with AirPlay on iMac is simply just getting the icon to appear in the menu bar. I've gone into display settings and the only option in the drop-down menu under 'AirPlay Display' is "OFF". I'm not sure if it matters, but I'm currently using two additional monitors along with the actual iMac display (TB2 to HDMI). I can't recall ever using AirPlay on this iMac nor ever having the icon in the menubar, but I have used Airdrop plenty without any major issues. Lastly, the devices I'm attempting to use are an iPhone 7+ as the source and iMac 27" 5k (2015) as the display. The iPhone is able to AirPlay to my Macbook without issue, so I'm almost certain the iMac is the problem. Per Apple's min spec requirements for AirPlay this iMac is supported; specs below: iMac 27" 5k ( late 2015) i5 4 cores | 32GB ram | boot drive is the trash stock 1TB HDD V. 10.15.16 Catalina Thanks for the help. Posted: 01 Sep 2020 04:39 PM PDT I just bought a MBA and I have app updates. Apparently I can't update apps like pages or iMovie because "the update is unavailable with this AppleID". Are there any solutions or should I call customer support? Thanks. [link] [comments]
How to download/create a High Sierra USB installer Posted: 01 Sep 2020 04:35 PM PDT Hi. I'm trying to rehab an old macbook pro (2011 13") that I forgot the admin password to for my friend to use. I'm trying to find a legitimate copy of High Sierra, which is the latest supported OS, that I can download on my macbook (running catalina), create the install media for and then use to install on the old laptop. I somewhat foolishly tried one from a random torrent I found, it managed to boot into the utilities menu and I wiped the drive but when I attempted to install an error saying the install was invalid/corrupt came up. Anyway, how can I source a legitimate High Sierra installer? [link] [comments]
QuickLook and SSL certificates Posted: 01 Sep 2020 12:10 PM PDT On High Sierra, and predecessors, I have been able to quick look on .crt, .pem, and similar. Got a new machine, this time with Catalina, and I no longer can. Instead of the certificate contents, all I see is the certificate icon instead. Is there a trick to make this work, or have Apple remove that ability? [link] [comments]
Why use a USB installer over Apple Internet Recovery? Posted: 01 Sep 2020 03:36 PM PDT Simple question: I have installed (fresh install) Mac OS many times using the USB installer method. But I'm thinking, why am I doing this when I can just boot into recovery, erase the drive, and just do an internet recovery. As I understand it, Internet recovery gets you the latest OS plus all the updates available at the time. So, if I just want a fresh OS what, if any, are the advantages of the USB installer method? Thanks [link] [comments]
