Weekly /r/iOSGaming Discussion - What have you been playing lately and what do you recommend? - September 28, 2020

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 09:11 PM PDT

Please use this thread to discuss whatever iOS games you've been playing lately. They don't have to be new games, they can be old games and they do not have to be iOS original titles!

As long as it's an iOS game it belongs in here. Make sure to put the name(s) of the game(s) in bold to make it easier for people skimming the thread to see what you're talking about, and if you'd like to make it really convenient turn the game name into a hyperlink that sends people directly to the App Store!

To keep track of the thread, the comments are sorted by "new" by default.

Me and my friend want a game to play together during school breaks and with discord. Can be something like CoC or real time like shooters or among us.

Any great games like Minecraft, terraria, and Stardew valley?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 08:21 PM PDT

So what I love about these games is the depth (mainly terraria and Stardew valley). There is always something to do whether it's building a giant chicken or waiting for the right time to get a junimo plushy. I could go on the wiki for hours and hours learning more and more about the game or even watch YouTube and doing that like was half the fun. And when I would play I would never get bored because there was always something there for me to do like get this funny weapon that does 0 damage or trying to catch all the rare fish. The reason I put Minecraft in is it has that part of that amazing depth plus an amazing replay ability. There is just so much more that you can do with redstone and just building because stardew just doesn't have that and terraria it just isn't that good. Minecraft also lets you make tons of farms and gives you so much more to do.

So basically I want a game that has the fun and depth of stardew and terraria but I kinda put in Minecraft because that game was really fun like terraria and stardew valley.

TLDR I want a game with the depth of stardew valley and terraria. And I really like Minecraft, stardew valley and terraria so if you liked those games it's probably great.

PS: I have an iPhone XR and if you think of a console game that I might like I have a ps4 and a switch

Are there any racing games where you start with a bad car and work your way up that isn’t riddled with IAP?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 06:59 PM PDT

Closest thing I've found is Asphalt 9 (which I did enjoy for a while), but as time has gone on it's become so incredibly P2W that I just don't enjoy it anymore. I thought there would be some sort of paid game that took the concept of slowly unlocking better and better cars and made it more centred around completing challenges and winning races but so far I've not found anything.

    Any suggestions?

Did iOS14 add a way to listen to a podcast or youtube vid in the background while playing Talisman or other games?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 02:49 AM PDT

Talisman has historically (and probably unintentionally) blocked background audio like a lot of apps do.

But I noticed with iOS14 on my old iPhone 6S that Twitch will now run in an overlay window while using other apps including Talisman, and I hear it fine.

    What's that capability called?

Do any podcast, music, or background youtube player apps implement it?

Is there maybe a setting I can futz with on my side that would override an app's audio blocks?

    Thank you in advance.

How to use cheats on Company of Heroes

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 05:59 PM PDT

There are many cheats in the game. How to open up the cheat menu: Press a finger on the pause button, and the settings button at the same time and hold. It should take a second or two before you have your keyboard out (this can only be done in a match/campaign mission).

Cheats: PopCap(insert any number here) -Raises the population cap to any number you wish.

Resources(insert any number here) -Gives you maximum command points and fuel, munition, manpower.

Manpower(any number) -gives you as much manpower as you want.

Munitions(any number) -gives you much munitions as you want.

Fuel(any number) -gives you as much fuel as you want.

CommandPoints(any number) -gives you as many command points you want (though you only need 17).

FOW_Toggle -toggles fog of war (fog of war is what covers the map so that you can't see anything except what your units see, it is on by default.)

ee_bigheadmode -toggles big head mode on/off

setsimrate(any number) -the game speed is at 8 by default, but you can raise the speed by raising the number, or slow it down by decreasing the number. !!!!Warning!!!! This command could crash the game if you go below 1, I don't recommend it.

Disclaimer:These may crash the game if you go too crazy with it.

Is there an MMO that has elements of combat and resource gathering as simple as RuneScape Class?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 08:09 PM PDT

Looking for a game that hits that itch that allows for customization of gear but it's not a big expansive map and a busy UI. Similar games I've found so far is Curse of Aros.

Single player or multiplayer as long as multiplayer isn't dead af. Preferably games with gear or some kind of levelling progression mechanic.

Saw an ad for a block-breaker game with heroes and can't remember the name…

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 05:13 PM PDT

It was a cartoony style and it looked like your basic brick breaker game, except there where 5 or 6 heroes at the bottom that each shot a special ball. If a block reached the bottom, that hero would die and you had one less ball to use.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? I've tried looking around the app store with things like "brick breaker heroes" or "brick break rpg" with no avail :/
