Enabling Dolby Vision gives white screen Posted: 05 Sep 2020 03:04 AM PDT I have a Philips 43PUS6814/12 TV which supports Dolby Vision, but whenever I try to enable it on my Apple TV or play content that uses it, the TV shows the Dolby Vision logo as it should, but the display output is completely white. I thought it might be an issue with my HDMI cable, as it was just an old Amazon Basics one I bought several years ago, so I bought the Apple recommended Belkin cable as it was certified for Dolby Vision, but I still have the same issue. Can't seem to find anything through Google about this, so I was hoping someone here had some experience and could point me the way of a solution. EDIT: On a whim, I decided to unplug my TV from power to basically force it to do a cold boot. Don't know why this made a difference, but I am suddenly able to enable Dolby Vision now without issue. In the spirit of helping people in future who may have this issue, I'm leaving this up with my solution. [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Sep 2020 03:27 PM PDT The title says it all. The LG CX 55 inch Class 4K Smart OLED TV w/ AI ThinQ came with Apple tv built in. I also happen to pick up an apple 4k tv at the same time not knowing there was a built in one. After looking at the same video on both it does ("but hard to tell") look like the apple 4k provides just ever so slightly better quality. Does anyone know if that is true? Is there any technical difference that would allow one to perform better than the other? I'm thinking about returning the apple 4k to get my $120 back seeing as I'm not really sure if there is any real reason to keep it since the tv has one built in. Edit: What about the quality of 4k, can anyone speak to the that, I feel like I'm going a little crazy but it really does look like the 4k box does a better job. [link] [comments]

Life hack for losing your Apple TV remote Posted: 04 Sep 2020 09:40 PM PDT Tape an old watch to the remote and set an alarm so that it will ring at least once a day and you can find it [link] [comments]
Somewhat solution to “Match content” menu lag? 48hz when playing 24fps content. Posted: 04 Sep 2020 10:19 AM PDT Would it be a possible solution to the dilemma on "match content" to have "double match content" as an option? Meaning AppleTV will chose 48hz for 24fps content, making the menus smoother but still lessen the judder of playing on 60hz? [link] [comments]
Aerial Screensavers are Limited to Just Few When 4K Dolby, HDR, or SDR are Selected Posted: 04 Sep 2020 01:45 PM PDT I found several posts about this issue and want to add my findings as many suggested to reset the Apple TV claiming it should solve the problem. However, I don't think it will, because the limitation is linked directly to the selected video output. I have a 32 GB ATV with the screensavers set to download every 24 hours and this is how I tested. I changed the video output to all the three 4K 60 Hz settings and observed the following results: If 4K Dolby and HDR are selected, Apple TV is displaying only 13 aerial screensavers. If 4K SDR is selected, it displays just 4 screensavers. It will display all of them only when 1080p SDR is selected as video output, but this is of course unacceptable as no content will switch to 4K and the users will be stuck with 1080p only. Posted: 04 Sep 2020 12:22 PM PDT I have an Apple TV 4k and a Polk Magnifi soundbar. I have the Apple audio set to auto. When the Polk is playing Dolby content, a small green led comes on. If I play something that I know is Dolby in this setting, the light doesn't come on. If I change the format to 5.1, the green light comes on, but it doesn't sound very good, sort of muffled. The TV itself is set to PCM as that is what Polk advised. When the light isn't on, I still have a separate center channel, so I'm not sure what's going on. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]

"Watch Fox News" fails now that I changed services Posted: 04 Sep 2020 05:45 AM PDT My father-in-law can only operate our tv by speaking to it. Partially because of the crappy remote but the tech is a little over his head. Anyway, he has learned to say "Watch Fox News", "Watch CMT", etc, etc. I've canceled AT&T NOw in favor of HULU but now it won't accept these prompts and says it can't find the AT&T app. Any suggestions.
