My baseline MacBook Air core i3 review

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 08:56 AM PDT

I've been very happy with it so far! Upgraded form a windows laptop and this MacBook Air is much better. I'm done with college and all that & didn't need anything too powerful. I use the MBA for YouTube, reddit,Pinterest, and social media. Essentially just use safari & no other program. I use the built in messaging to message friends too.

For my use case this MacBook has been awesome! It's great having the larger screen for YouTube and I love it a lot more over an iPad because it can support itself.

I was using a iPad as my main device too at one point when my windows laptop failed me as I saved up for the MBA & it worked good but annoyed me with its limitations.

I'd say the MBA i3 is really good for someone who doesn't play games, someone who is done with school and just looking for something to enjoy when they're done with a long day.

anyone found mouse pointer lag while watching Apple TV on Mac

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 11:50 PM PDT

updated to the latest Catalina 10.15.7, running a 2020 MacBook Pro with 10th gen i7, when I open Apple TV and starts to watch a show, the mouse pointer suddenly becomes very laggy, you can clear see the frame drop, and after few seconds, it disappeared, it also happens when you close the video. However they did manage to fix the screen flicking with subtitles turns on in the previous version.

Make manual backup of MacBook Air files on a 128Gb SD Card

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 04:22 PM PDT

    Hi,

I have an SD-Card of 128Gb, Which is also more or less the Capacity of my HDD of my 2015 MacBook Air.

Which would be the easiest way of doing a weekly Backup of my MacBook Air to this SD card?

I just recently formatted my MacBook Air HDD and reinstalled everything because it was lagging, I use my MacBook almost mainly for research.

Coconut Battery screenshot analysis + Getting service recommended warning

    Hi everyone,

I am getting warning for a couple of months on my macbook. Can I ignore it? I do have to keep my charging cable plugged in most of the time as battery jumps from 100 to 0 quickly. Is that bad?

Also, could you please give analysis on the screenshot from coconut battery? Full charge capacity increased to 44.1% now after I plugged in the charger.

Cracked Screen - Anyone know if I can use an external monitor without being able to use the screen of my 2017 Macbook Pro?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 06:57 PM PDT

Hey guys, so unfortunately my 2017 Macbook Pro got a crack in the screen today. The screen won't turn on, but I was hoping I could connect it to my external monitor using a USB-C to HDMI cable. Wanted to check here if that works before I buy one. I saw some old mentions that all you need to do is connect and reboot, but I think that may have been the older models with actual HDMI outputs. Anybody know if I can use an external monitor without actually being able to use the screen of my macbook? Or do I need to manually detect it on my mac before it will switch to an external screen?

help me get back to Sierra from Catalina

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 06:47 PM PDT

Currently running on a mid 2015 Macbook pro 15". I recently moved up to Catalina, but it's just causing problems and I'd like to go back to Sierra.

I booted into recovery mode (Holding Command R) and tried using Time Machine, but says I can't restore an HFS system on a an APFS formate disk.

I tried going into internet recovery mode (command option shift R) and reinstalling the OS that way, but when it comes time to selecting the disk to install the OS, the box is blank.

I'm not the best with computers so looking for a bit of help.

    Thanks

Ideas for 2015 13” MBP in bad shape with 16 GB ram and 1 tb hard drive?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 05:15 PM PDT

My work was throwing away a MacBook because it was bent and they couldn't get it started and I asked if I could have it. They let me have it and I began messing with it. I got it working only to realize it had great specs. In short, it has 16 GB ram and a 1tb hard drive.

The problem is that the case is bent, a USB drive is unusable, the HDMI port can cut out at times (just have to reinsert the cord and it works) and the battery is completely dead. I have been using it as a desktop with an external monitor but it can be frustrating at times because of the issues, plus it looks rough on the desk.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to make the experience better? I'm fine with it being a dedicated desktop Mac but would love for it to be a little more reliable and be more aesthetically pleasing.

    Return MBA 2020 for Pro?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 05:08 PM PDT

So I did browse this sub and saw dozens of these posts but want to get everyone's views on my situation:

I'm a long time apple user and currently using a early 2015 MBA. It's getting super slow and I'm in my final year of grad school so decided to spring for a new one with the educational discount.

I bought the MBA with i5 processor a week ago and it should get here Oct 10 approximately. Obviously super long wait time is frustrating (I'm in nyc). The reviews in this sub have me super concerned though and I want to return it for the MBP. The issue is the MBP isn't available for pick up and takes another month and a half to ship — and I really need a new laptop.

    What should it do?

Also - I use a laptop for typical student stuff but I do love chrome and typically have a million tabs open and it used to be fine on my current Mac

    Older MacBook Air suitable for?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 02:35 PM PDT

    Hey everyone,

I've been a longtime Apple user of phones, iPads, and watches — but I've never owned a Mac. I found a good deal on a mid 2011 13 inch MacBook Air that I am considering purchasing. My only needs in a laptop are video streaming (Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, etc), light web browsing, word processing, very light photo editing, etc. My main draw for picking this up would be iMessage integration into my laptop use, and from what I can tell I can upgrade the OS far enough to be able to do this. I've been using a mid tier Chromebook, for reference — would this particular MacBook Air meet my needs adequately?

Thank you in advance for any help!

2014 MacBook Pro click in the corners?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 01:49 PM PDT

I haven't used the trackpad on my MacBook for quite a while and I can't tell if it's something that needs to be looked into or if it's normal, but it doesn't seem to make a tactile click on the bottom corners. the click still activates though, and the tactile click is there if I press in towards the center/bottom-middle.

I fried my audio, how to fix/replace from here?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 12:38 PM PDT

I royally screwed the audio functionality for my Macbook Pro A1502 when I ran a USB-to-1/8 cord from my machine's USB import to it's 1/8 import while attempting to record an audio clip from YouTube into Garageband.

Now any time I plug in headphones for any program, I hear crackling. I've tried every recommendation to resolve between online articles and AppleCare. Nothing has worked.

Can anyone tell me how to install new audio drivers, and/or replace the affected hardware?

MacBook Air late 2019 water spill

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 12:37 PM PDT

I spilled some water on my mac today. It didn't shut down but I immediately turned it upside down and turned it off. After an hour I assumed there might not have been very extensive or any damage at all so I tried turning it on. I might have fucked it up there. Computer switched on just fine however trackpad was sticky and keyboard wasn't working. I tried restarting it a couple of times and decided I should leave it alone. I turned it upside down again and noticed after 10 min that my laptop was lighting up on its own (that annoying feature, in this instance, where computer turns on when you open it) and immediately hard pressed and shut it down. I haven't touched it til now. It's been about 9 hours now. How much longer should I let it dry out? Do you think there's some serious damage done?

    Hello, new here.

I'm wanting to get rid of a large amount of files on my MacBook (storage is full and organisation has been lazy) and starting afresh, but I don't want to loose certain apps and programs. Can anyone recommend the best ways of doing this?
