Posted: 03 Sep 2020 02:53 PM PDT Hello all, I'm a senior CS student looking to upgrade from my beat-to-hell 13-inch MBP (Mid-2014). I went through a lot with that model, and plan to go through just as much with my next model. Recently, I've been heavily contemplating the 2019 16-inch MBP. I sold my old MBP for around $450, and plan to sell the Air Pods that come free with the education discount, so that's $600 off the total price right off the bat. I'd love the total cost to be in the ballpark of $2500, so that I'm only paying roughly 2K out of pocket. I realize that for a little more I could fully spec this out, but I'd really prefer not to go over $3000 total. This is where I seek the advice of you knowledgeable folk! The options are:
I'm pretty dead-set on one of these combinations. I don't need the strongest machine on Earth (I plan on building a high-end PC down-the-line) but I do want some semblance of future-proofing. I plan on using it mostly for productivity, but would love the option to use it for development and ML. Thanks for reading and I appreciate any input! [link] [comments]
How can I record a certain window only with Quicktime? Posted: 03 Sep 2020 09:17 PM PDT Hi, I create 2 separate Desktops (let's say Desktop A and Desktop B) and want to record Desktop A only. That means when I swipe to navigate between Desktops, the recorded portion will only stay in Desktop A and get nothing from the swipe animation and Desktop B. How could I do that? Thank you [link] [comments]

USB Port problem MBP Retina Mid 2015 Posted: 03 Sep 2020 10:18 PM PDT Hello guys, I guess I need some help in here, i have a problem with my Mid 2015 MBP 15 inch, the USB ports keeps disconnecting my iPhone comes and goes can't even charge it or sync, but when it comes to my external SSD or USB storage it works like a charme, the problem appeared a while ago but it became unsupportable by now, recently (2 weeks) I changed the whole Motherboard and the I/O Board with it because the old one became graphic glitchy, so even with the brand new one the problem is here, Ps: Yes ! I use original cables, 3 brand new from box, and 4 different iPhones Help please [link] [comments]
Butterfly keyboard - Is it really that bad? Posted: 03 Sep 2020 09:08 PM PDT Hey everyone, I currently own MBP 2015 but I decided to give it to my girlfriend. Her laptop is like 2011 and she needed something more modern or quite faster for her WFH. I saw a sweet deal of MBP 2016, 16gb, 512gb for only $800 but my major concern, is the butterfly keyboard really that bad? I've been working from home for 5 years already. Most of the time I use my MBP as a desktop pc with an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse. I rarely use my MBP in public or use it as a laptop. What do you think? [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Sep 2020 08:01 PM PDT i bought a brand new 2020 macbook air about 5 days ago, and im noticing that the battery on it is pretty terrible. is my macbook faulty? or is this the new standard apple has created. also, i havent been using my laptop for anything besides online shopping and school stuff, max 3 tabs open at a time. and my brightness is also fairly low [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Sep 2020 07:25 PM PDT So I just received it today and I've noticed that when there's fingerprints on the screen with some light shined on it, the fingerprints look blue. Is it just the Retina display that makes the fingerprints look blue? Note: the blue is only visible when the screen is off. [link] [comments]
Display look even ? (Color/brightness) Posted: 03 Sep 2020 06:31 PM PDT So i know no lcd display is perfect but i was wondering if this was acceptable on my MBP 16" ? Just bought it from Best buy. Thanks a lot. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Sep 2020 06:27 PM PDT Hi, I just bought a macbook off of ebay. It is titled "Apple MacBook White 13" A1342 120GB HDD, 2gb Ram)WITH OSX MOJAVE 10.14 mid 2010". I am looking for a keyboard cover for it. Do all macbooks have the same size keyboard (relative to their laptop measurement). [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Sep 2020 06:26 PM PDT I am a new university student in the UK and am strongly considering buying the new Macbook Air 2020. I have very minimal experience with Apple, apart from my Ipad and Apple pencil that I have had for 2 years and I love them. I really like this laptop but I am really scared about potential damages in the future. So I guess my first question is, if you are a careful user, how fragile is a Macbook Air (2020)? I can afford to get the Macbook itself but I can't really splurge another £229 for Applecare+ , if the Macbook really is prone to damages I'd rather get a monthly insurance tbh. I just have a lot of purchases to make and I really want to get a Macbook rather than a PC as I think quality wise they are better. So would insurance be a good decision, at a rate of ~£12 a month? I have never had to deal with insurances OR Macs before so this is new territory for me, which makes me scared shitless of buying a new Macbook and then having its screen broken. I'm assuming that would cost me at the very least a third of the laptop's price itself. So to summarise, my two questions are: 1) How fragile is the Macbook Air 2020, given you are a careful user? 2) I can't afford Applecare, so would insurance be a good alternative? Thanks for the help in advance guys. [link] [comments]

Did I screw up? 2015 MacBook Pro for 750$ 16g of ram and 2.7ghz dual core i5. Posted: 03 Sep 2020 05:09 PM PDT Student here looking for a cheap workhorse of a laptop for online school and light music and video production on a budget. I just bought a refurbished 2015 MacBook Pro on EBay with a 2.7ghz dual core i5, 16gb of ram and a 256gb ssd( I have iCloud) I also really like the legacy ports so that made a big influence in my decision( Btw I ordered it from the states since I live in Puerto Rico things don't really depreciate in value so anything used is pretty expensive) [link] [comments]
Should I choose i5 processor or stick with i3? Posted: 03 Sep 2020 04:04 PM PDT Hello All, I was wondering if someone could give me a bit of advice. I am 17 years old and studying for my Alevels in the UK. I study Technology and Design and hope to go on to study Product design engineering at University. I am going to purchase the MacBook Air 2020 13" this weekend as a laptop to get me through both alevels and university. At the moment in school I am using very basic Solidworks and as I progress through university I will gradually use it more and more. However this will be nowhere near industrial or professional scale or standard. At the minute I am only using Solidworks for one product at a time. However, I have read that some recommend the i5 processor for such activities and wanted some advice as to weather I should upgrade to this or if my limited use would mean the i3 is sufficient. Any advice regarding anything to do with my purchase would be greatly appreciated! Thank You [link] [comments]
49” Curved Monitor recommendation for MacBook. Posted: 03 Sep 2020 02:18 PM PDT I've already decided my 2016 MacBook Pro is probably a little light for driving the 49" displays so I plan to trade in and upgrade to one of the new 16" MB Pros. So those should be as good as it gets on graphics. My question is which 49" curved are super compatible and also allow 2 input devices. At times I will need to hook up my windows computer for 1/3 of the screen space. Cost up to about $1200 is okay. This is for productivity not gaming. [link] [comments]
Mac recommendations for school and music Posted: 03 Sep 2020 09:36 AM PDT Hi, I have a fairly new iPad and thinking of upgrading to a Mac, I just can't use it like a computer and I need something more powerful. I'm also trying to stay on budget(hopefully below 900). I have online unà and I'm interested in recording guitar covers. I'm open to desktop, MacBooks. My uncle recommended to go used or refurbished older model. Thanks I'm just kinda overwhelmed with choices, sorry If you guys don't like this sort of thing. I'm kinda inclined to a desktop(idk they just seem more sturdy than a laptop) and I already have an iPad Someone offered me a late 2013 IMac 21.5 for 850 with everything it came with [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Sep 2020 11:15 AM PDT Spilled a full cup of tea, luckily my MBA was on a stand but 3 keys still got a splash! I turned it straight off and have left it upside down on a towel. Is it still likely to go kaput? How much would I be looking at for a repair? A local has said roughly £300 but I'm not sure... [link] [comments]

2020 Macbook Pro 13 8th gen processor - Mojave? Posted: 03 Sep 2020 09:57 AM PDT Hi all, Is it possible to install 10.14.x on these models? I know they ship with 10.15.4, but since they're 8th gen Intel I was wondering if they're able to to have Mojave installed since the 2019 model came with Mojave. [link] [comments] |
