Weekly /r/iOSGaming Discussion - What have you been playing lately and what do you recommend? - August 31, 2020

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 09:12 PM PDT

Please use this thread to discuss whatever iOS games you've been playing lately. They don't have to be new games, they can be old games and they do not have to be iOS original titles!

As long as it's an iOS game it belongs in here. Make sure to put the name(s) of the game(s) in bold to make it easier for people skimming the thread to see what you're talking about, and if you'd like to make it really convenient turn the game name into a hyperlink that sends people directly to the App Store!

To keep track of the thread, the comments are sorted by "new" by default.

    Find previous weekly threads here.

Decided to keep my iPod Touch instead of selling it. Slowly putting back all the iOS games my family and I enjoyed over the years.

Is there a game that’s like Retro Bowl except with baseball?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 02:42 PM PDT

I'm absolutely loving Retro Bowl. Can't put it down. Nice sweet spot of football manager sim WITH the fun of playing the actual games each season.

Can anyone recommend a similar game on the App Store but with baseball? Draft a team, play a season as the team, try to become champion, etc.

    Thank you!

Any good strategy game suggestions with no Ä°AP?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 09:50 AM PDT

Hi all, i am looking for a strategy game that has no Ä°AP, or even if it has it, it needs to be something that doesnt affect gameplay.

Ä° dont really like city building and tower defense kind of games, but i'd like to play something that requires a little attention. Tbh i cant quite explain exactly what kind of game i am looking for but i am open to any suggestion. Please recommend me a good game :)

Are there any good idle games on the store?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 06:44 AM PDT

All of the idle games seem to follow the same suit; have fun for 30 mins then get bogged down with IAP.

I'm enjoying Adventure Communist right now but is there more half decent ones that aren't P2W?

Stuck on a level in Hyperforma for over a year.

    Posted: 31 Aug 2020 12:17 AM PDT

I bought Hyperforma last year because of the music and art. However I quickly became stuck near the end of the game on Warrior 7. After a few frustrating days I emailed the devs for help and they couldn't give me any advice. I quit trying soon after because I don't want to be stressed by a game I'm trying to play to relax. I picked up the game again a few days ago and still can't beat this level.

For those of you who have beaten hyperforma, how did you get past Warrior 7?

Is there ANY fix to games that don’t display correctly on iphone XR, etc?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 09:31 PM PDT

Y'all know how the XR has the notch at the top, and a bar at the bottom (because there's no home button anymore)? Yeah.

    So.

Is there a way to fix that?

There is an insane amount of developers that have never implemented a fix for that into their games, meaning that, for example, one certain game i play has all my currency values at the top center of the screen. That means i can't see them. Period. Text is cut off, images are behind the bezel, text is below the white/black bar on the bottom of the screen.

It ruins the experience of a lot of games, and sometimes makes them completely unplayable.

And for some reason, when i've googled this various times over the past couple weeks, there doesn't seem to be much of any info whatsoever even pertaining to the topic, yet alone a fix.

Any advice, workarounds, a setting i don't know of in accessibility? Anything like that?

Thanks in advance guys, love y'all.

How to prevent iOS from restarting game in background?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 05:23 PM PDT

My understanding is that unless the game is programmed to save state efficiently, iOS may kill the process to free up memory. Is there any way to trick iOS into keeping the process running / make it less likely to kill the process? The game I'm having issues with specifically is Dragon Quest V on a fully updated iPhone X.

Looking for either an auto mmo or an idle game with an active community/guild system

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 07:22 PM PDT

Has anyone found anything like this recently? Coming off of a Black Desert Mobile kick that got stale. I like having a game that can progress in the background, especially while working, but can be engaging while actively playing as well.

    Help me remember a game

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 06:22 PM PDT

[FOUND] I played a mobile game on IOS in around 2016 where it was a 2D platformer I think and you were something like a ghost I think running from this black darkness that slowly filled the world. It was your job to return life to the world or something like that. You had a couple powers you could use I think. I also feel like the name was pretty unique if I remember correctly and not really a real word I think. Any help is appreciated, thanks

Looking for F2P Strategy Games that are better than the normal f2p crap.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 02:58 PM PDT

So I do reviews of strategy and strategy games on the PC but I also have done some card games on iOS and Android and of course there is some cross over on board games for all 3 platforms.

Anyway I am looking for some F2P games that area cut above the standard f2p games that you see out there like your clash royale and such. Is there anything out there that's good and has a fair f2p model?
