Is the MacBook Pro 2020 16GB overkill for a college student? Posted: 28 Aug 2020 08:36 AM PDT Bit of a weird one. I'm selling a guitar, I've had a guy offer me a trade for a new Apple laptop, he's legit he works for a company that wholesales laptops/tech, it'll be an in person trade, the laptop is sealed with a receipt for the laptop. I can get a base model Pro for €250 + my guitar (a high end Fender Strat for those interested), the higher SSD one for €500 extra, or the 4 Thunderbolt 3 Port model with 512GB and 16GB Ram for an extra €800. I'm tempted with the 16GB of Ram option but I don't know if it would be overkill for what I need. I'm tempted by the base model or the higher end model, I don't really need/use that much storage so the base model + storage doesn't appeal to me. 1 - 13" macbook pro, core i5 1.4ghz, 8gb ram and 256gb - for €250 + Guitar. 2 - 13" with core i5 2ghz (turbo boost up to 3.8ghz), 16gb ram and 512gb ssd - for €800 + Guitar. Should I just go with the base model? What do you knowledgeable folk think? [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Aug 2020 08:43 PM PDT I'm looking for a new, fast Macbook for smooth editing with 4k video, as well as motion graphics in Adobe. Of course, looking to spend the least amount necessary to fulfill that standard, so I'm looking at 2018 models rather than 2019/2020. Would it be a safe bet? Is 512gb worrisome and I should instead be looking at 1TB / 32gb? Thanks for any and all advice! I'm looking to buy used from Swappa. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Aug 2020 06:08 PM PDT hey guys ! recently i've collected enough graduation money and money from a seasonal online job to get a new laptop. i have a crappy dell laptop that i've been using for several months to get my online work done and to watch youtube videos and such. i've wanted a macbook for the longest time and now that i've finally got the money, i wanted to get one but i'm not sure which one to get. the macbook air is cheaper but i heard the cooling system sucks so it overheats really easily. i tend to have a lot of tabs open and listen to music on spotify while i work. i'll need to go on zoom meetings three times a week with each meeting being at least an hour long for college as well, and i also heard that the air overheats on zoom meetings. so i think the pro will be a better fit for me but i don't want to waste an extra $300 if an air will be just fine. what do y'all who have more experience with macbooks think? Posted: 28 Aug 2020 01:31 PM PDT Hello. Arash Here, So last week my Macbook Pro 2017 just died! no sign of any power cycle or anything ... I took it to some experts to fix it (We don't have Apple's Officials here in Iran), So far they could not turn it on and they think it's about power. We ordered new battery for the 2017 Macbook Pro witch was so expensive, They're gonna test it for the power. Note that they could not get any voltage from the CPU either. What do you think? do you think my Macbook is dead completely? There's no Apple Officials here to change my Macbook with a new one. Thanks. [link] [comments]
How to unsync a device connected to my mac's photos? Posted: 28 Aug 2020 01:20 PM PDT I probably didn't word that question correctly but here's the context: I have a new Macbook Air 2020 that's in the process of syncing the photos across my icloud account. Thing is, my icloud isn't just connected to my personal phone (iphone 8) but is also connected to my mother's ipad (ipad air). Is there any way for me to unsync just the photos on the ipad from my macbook that doesn't involve completely removing my icloud account from the ipad? I would appreciate any and all answers! Posted: 28 Aug 2020 03:41 PM PDT Hello, I have a 2015 MacBook Air and it has recently auto shut off when using without being plugged in for about 30 minutes or so. The battery is on 100%, updated latest firmware, and when it shuts off I'm unable to turn it back on unless I plug it in. Would that be a battery issue? Never had any issues until now. Why is my MacBook pro hot after closing it with an adapter on? Posted: 28 Aug 2020 03:00 PM PDT Hi. I bought my Macbook Pro about 8 months ago. A few days ago I bought a Philips monitor and an adapter to connect my Macbook to the monitor. In the adapter, I have connected HDMI (to connect to monitor), mouse, keyboard, and charger. When I close my Macbook and the monitor for a few hours and come back, both the Macbook and the adapter are very hot. And sometimes I get an error message that says something like: your MacBook restarted due to an error. Does anyone know why this is the case? Like maybe I have to unplug the adapter once I am done using it for the day or something like that? Thank you for any help. [link] [comments]
i5 (10th gen) Macbook Air 2020 512GB vs i5 (8th gen) Macbook Pro 2020 256GB Posted: 28 Aug 2020 02:23 PM PDT I am a second year college student, and looking to buy a new laptop which will last me for at least 5 years(definitely cannot afford to buy another one before that). Both the above mentioned configurations cost the exact same and I am confused. Some things to keep in mind:
I know I am getting more storage in the Air, but given its poor CPU performance and heating issues, I'm wondering if I will even be able to keep it running for those 512 gigs to fill up. Please provide your honest suggestions on both options. [link] [comments]
MACBOOK PRO EXTREMELY FRAGILE (ONLY 1 WEEK OLD) Posted: 28 Aug 2020 06:47 AM PDT This morning I opened my Macbook Pro in the following way. My thumbs were rested on the screen so that I could be able to push the frame of the laptop using my index finger. The pressure applied to the screen by the thumb was minimal but when I took my hands away I noticed a LCD crack on the lower right hand corner (you can see it in the 2nd photo, its the smudge looking white patch). I tried to restart the computer thinking it might help, but the computer could not be turned on once shut down. I was shocked and confused and thought it was a defect. Prior to this the laptop had never dropped and nothing was ever dropped on top of it nor did I close it while it had stuff on the keyboard. I took care of it because I knew it was fragile but the fact that the LCD broke under such little pressure perplexes me. Straight after the incident I went to the local apple store and they said that I would have to pay 700euros to replace the entire screen and that cracks were not part of the warranty even though I had barely been able to use it and had paid 2000euros for this laptop. I had heard great things about this laptop before buying this but I feel disappointed at the quality of the product [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Aug 2020 02:16 PM PDT Hi! I'm going to be purchasing a MacBook Air or a Pro soon. Moving from an Acer thar had both a SSD and HDD. I was never able to backup my phone to the bigger HDD. I'm wondering if I purchase an external drive, can I back my phone up to that instead of wasting space on the 256/512 standard drive? I looked and I can't find the answer. Sorry, I'm trying to figure this out and don't have a physical place to get these questions answered. Edit: I wasn't able to backup my phone to the D drive. Apparently it's normal and everything gets backed up to the C drive no matter what. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Aug 2020 01:54 PM PDT Hi Everyone, Could really use your help on this one please. How can I plug in two external monitors to a macbook air? Macbook air has only 1 usb c exit. Each monitor has its own hdmi cable. Would really love for there to be only cable coming out of my mac to make this work. [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Aug 2020 11:28 AM PDT Im checking out laptops and I'm eyeing the Macbook Air 2020 i5 10th gen. I'll be using it for college, and since everything is remote learning here, I'll be using zoom/google meet/canvas or apps similar to that and it'll likely take hours (classes). Will a macbook air 2020 heat up if I do that? This is the specs of the Macbook Air 2020: 1.1GHz Quad-Core Core i5 Processor with Turbo Boost up to 3.5GHz Also, what would be better? That above or Macbook Pro: 1.4GHz Quad-Core Processor with Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz For college? Writing, browsing, watching/streaming, and light editing? thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Aug 2020 09:00 AM PDT Hey, There are traces on my screen and that annoys me. I bought the Whoosh product, which is quite expensive and I have traces on my screen. Well, then I tried a window cleaner, I know it's not the best idea but I wanted it to shine but to no avail... I tried an eyeglass cleaner, same thing, it's no better. What are your secrets? ☹️ [link] [comments]
Thunderbolt 3? USB-C? on 2020 MBPro Posted: 28 Aug 2020 08:25 AM PDT I've been trying to figure out what the actual difference between Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C for the everyday user like myself. I have all USB-A, probably USB-1 and 2 peripherals, e.g., external hard drives and a pile of flash drives. "Old" in other words. I get that I need an adapter, but even on the Apple site, the one recommended for a 2020 machine (that has TB 3) was USB-C. So what's the catch? I don't wanna buy unnecessary adapters or ones that'll be obsolete in 2 years. There's enough ewaste on the planet. [link] [comments]
Advice for USB Hub for Mid-2012 MBP & Logic Pro X? Posted: 28 Aug 2020 05:08 AM PDT I just started using Logic Pro X with my mid-2012 MBP (upgraded RAM and SSD). I need a USB hub to accomodate two external SSD (one hosts the Logic Sound Libary), a MIDI controller and an audio interface. Are there particular features that I should seek/avoid in a USB hub in this case? [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Aug 2020 12:34 AM PDT Hello! So I am a college student, and I had problems with my first MacBook so I decided to return it. I have started school already (luckily I could use someone else's laptop) but I still need to purchase my own. I quite literally have been in a dilemma of getting 8 gb or 16 gb of ram for the longest, as I'm just doing basic things, such as things a regular non-engineering major (Zoom, papers, streaming) etc. Is it overkill to get the 16 GB as I don't really need it (I am still a college student) and I'm only looking for this device to last me 6-7 years, or will I regret NOT getting it in the long run? In this dilemma, I realized the ARM macbooks come out soon. Is it worth it to wait longer to get it? [link] [comments] |
