MacBook Air i5 or Pro i5(Base) - 2020 Posted: 27 Aug 2020 02:22 PM PDT So I have a dilemma. I'm torn between two MacBooks. The MacBook Air i5 and the MacBook Pro i5 base 13 inch. The Air has higher specs with the 10th gen i5 and the Pro has 2019 specs but still a Pro and from what I understand still more powerful. I'm not a photo or video editor. But I do a lot of excel, Word/Pages and TONS of Zoom with screen sharing and often 100 participants (30-50 average cameras). I hear the Air struggles a lot with Zoom though. The Air would actually cost me $50 more than the Pro. Is it a no brainer and go for the Pro? [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Aug 2020 12:14 AM PDT So, I'm thinking about purchasing the 2019 13.3" (i5 2.4GHz/8 GB ram/ 256gb ssd) MacBook Pro. I'll use it for web browsing, Microsoft office apps, League of legends and Photoshop (either cc or cs6 -amateur use-). Note that I'm on the last grade of High school and I'll use it the most the next few years on University. I currently own a PC and I'll need the MacBook due to portability. My problem is should I but now, wait for the autumn release of the silicone MacBook (either to buy the new MacBook or get the 2019 version for a cheaper price) or even wait for the 2021 silicon? Will the 2019 one be outdated in 2021? Will it be supported by Apple and receive updates? Bear in mind I'm somewhat impatient🥶 [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Aug 2020 09:40 PM PDT I'm a longtime user of the MacBook Air 13 ``, I owned several and I'm thinking about stepping out of Apple, this might be a slow transition because all hardcore apple users know that once you're in the "Apple" system it's hard to get out of it :P. It's not clear yet if I will really sell my Macbook, maybe I'm actually just preparing for the moment when my Macbook will be too out of date or broken or whatever, nevertheless it's good to think about it. Let me first explain why I consider leaving apple: - It's too expensive, especially the newer devices (I'm also talking about iPhones which I own as well) - From what I heard, Windows devices are stable nowadays (the stability of the system is actually what I first loved on my MacBooks - I'm an aspiring hum.......well I'm some kind of a geek but not to an extreme either so I definitely want to work in the IT domain for a variety of reasons. I will soon start studying digital marketing but I might end up as a coder, who knows nowadays. - I think my setup is getting old, I'm not having any real problems because of that but I might be someday, I own a MacBook Air, 13 inch Early 2015Processor 1,6 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i54 GB 1600 MHz DDR3Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536 MB120 Gb Flash storage - I have a very bad eyesight and I'm seriously putting thet on top of my worries, so the most important thing for me is to have a screen that won't hurt my eyes too much of that makes sense, by the way; is a 13 Inch display bad for my eyes? Should I consider a bigger screen? A better display (quality? type or whatever? Seriously this is on the top of my priorities (having the best screen for my eyes). - I own an iPhone XS with a cracked screen that I consider selling as well, that way I can opt for a cheaper Android phone that might still have a decent quality, since the 2 devices are kind of "linked" by several apple features (Apple Cloud, etc...) I need to carefully do my research before I replace what I have. - I actually use my computer and my phone mainly for researching on the web etc... lol... I consider myself a hobbiest researcher (except I'm not paid for it). That's why I don't need a computer with a lot of power I guess. I did try video editing but the capacity of my laptop is quite low to do this. I use an SD card of 128Gb and an USB key of a similar size of storage in case I'm low on storage, I also have an external hard disk of 500Gb I think. - I own other devices that I can sell alltogether (AirPods, an external Battery that is specially made for the iPhone XS). I found out that I don't use them anyways and it might increase my selling price slightly. - I need money and technology loses value overtime so I might as well sell those devices as long as they're still worth something, no? - Apple isn't great for somebody who wants to be an IT techie (I did one year of IT in college), I was able to put windows 10 by emulating it virtually on my MacBook so it wasn't really a problem and I could code in UNIX (since apple is based on UNIX) but I think that long term I better get interested in everything that isn't Apple.(not entirely sure about this since apple's popularity completely changed overtime. - I have been hacked entirely, this was a really nasty hack, they even spoof called me to try to get private information about me, it was really a traumatic experience. (both my MacBook and my iPhone were hacked). Thankfully it got to an end after I found a guy who previously worked at Apple Genius, it cost me a lot of money but an official technician from an apple store would have been more costly for sure. - Apple technicians are more expensive (way more?) than other technicians, I was just lucky, they are also less available. - I'm not sure if Apple is less secure or not (because I heard contradictory stories) but I definitely got hacked and I want to be as secure as possible now. I also don't like the fact that apple seems to glue some parts so that we can't replace them most of the time. I also hate the idea of the iPhone Battery being not removable, Yes, I'm paranoid because the world of today is gettung creepier and creepier in terms of (digital) security. - Making my technology system as secure as possible is also something I will enjoy doing, the malicious hack teached me a lot. Knowledge (applied) is power. Feel free to comment on anything I wrote and please leave me some suggestions on what to go for next. Thanks in advance :).. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Aug 2020 05:57 AM PDT I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro that is on its last leg. I'm debating whether a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air would be a good replacement. I don't know the real difference and the specs are all like a different language to me. I don't really game, at the most id maybe use an emulator to game, iTunes (or the music app) for playing songs, watch YouTube and type up some word documents. Would a MacBook Pro even be worth it or should I go with the air to save some money? I've also considered switching back to PC but after 10 years I might just stick to Mac. I want something I can stretch out for another decade. [link] [comments]

I attempted to look up the ways to enable them and was unsuccessful. Could you please help me out? It's probably very easy to do but I would appreciate the help! [link] [comments]

Cannot restore Time Machine backup on external hard drive Posted: 27 Aug 2020 07:35 PM PDT I am getting this error when I perform a Time Machine restore on my external hard drive. I am having trouble understanding what the error means. When the error says "APFS systems can only be restored to internal SSDs", does it mean that I can only restore the Time Machine backup on the SSD that is soldered into my Macbook? Thus, I will not be able to buy an external SSD and restore my Time Machine backup to the external SSD? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Aug 2020 05:19 PM PDT Hi everyone! Proud owner of a older model MacBook Pro. My computer will not fully power on. I took it to Apple and they ran diagnostics on it and decided it was a software issue. Hard drive is fine, but due to the software issue I need to remove everything off the hard drive and reset the computer. Unfortunately, my data isn't backed up on the cloud, so I need to recover my files off the hard drive hand before resetting. Apple said I can do that using a dell computer and use target disk mode to remove my files. I think I need a thunderbolt 2 to usb adaptor. Ideally I'll get a newer model, but it's not in the budget right now. All other diagnostics were fine. Anyone have any insight on where I can find a thunderbolt 2 to usb cable? Any other advice is welcomed and appreciated! Thank you in advance! [link] [comments]

Posted: 27 Aug 2020 11:57 AM PDT I have a bluetooth mouse for my macbook pro and whenever I start up any kind of game none of my clicks register until I double click (the only way I figured this was getting frustrated and spamming my mouse lmao). Has this happened to anybody else? If so, do you know how to fix it because I really want to play some of these games I have downloaded but its too frustrating to have to double click every time I need to use the mouse. Best replacement trackpad for 2011 macbook pro? Posted: 27 Aug 2020 09:03 AM PDT Hey y'all, My trackpad has been slowly not working as well as it used to, and I'd like to replace it. I have experience upgrading from a sata to an ssd, as well as upgrading my ram, so I'm confident that I can do it myself. However, there's many options for buying a replacement one, and I don't just want to buy junk. The videos I've seen of people replacing it are like "I've used this one for a month, it's great!" and that doesn't really instil confidence in me. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thank you! Posted: 27 Aug 2020 08:25 AM PDT Hey there! I'm looking for suggestions on some third party bluetooth keyboards and mouse that don't require a usb Bluetooth adapter for connection. I'm currently using the 13" macbook pro 2019, and don't want to put in an adapter in the USB-C slots. Also, not looking forward for the apple magic mouse or keyboard, (budget is tight, student life). Thank you in advance! [link] [comments]

Posted: 27 Aug 2020 05:18 AM PDT Hi! I have a just gotten a secondhand Macbook Pro Late 2013 Model. I have done a factory reset and everything is running well. But as soon as I use Zoom (I am an online teacher and need to use zoom and the screen sharing feature) the computer lags and my zoom connection is terrible. My internet is running at 43 upload and 49 download so it is not that. On the zoom application it says that 100% of the CPU is being used and the computer gets really hot. Any ideas? Or is it advisable to get a newer computer [link] [comments]
