I recently purchased the new Magic Keyboard for my 12.9” iPP, and I can never go back to a laptop as my main machine. I love how powerful yet portable this entire set up is.

Picture in Picture straight from YouTube App

Picture in Picture straight from YouTube App

I'm an indie-developer and I just wanted to share an app I built called PiP-it! that lets you watch picture in picture straight from the YouTube app without having to go to Safari.

    https://reddit.com/link/hvdze8/video/jankiqjnh9c51/player

As I'm sure everyone's heard, iOS 14 is adding picture in picture support for the iPhone but the iPad's support it since iOS 9. Individual apps still have to enable it and one notable holdout has been YouTube. With PiP-it! you just press Share > More > Picture in Picture with PiP-it! from any YouTube video and you can continue to watch your video while using other apps.

PiP-it! also works with videos in other apps that don't enable picture in picture like Files, Photos and many websites.

Try PiP-it! free during the 3-day trial and if you like it, it's just a one-time cost of $1.99 to use forever.

    Download here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id1513646283

A free update will let you use PiP-it! on the iPhone when iOS 14 is released.

Would love to hear your feedback!

Support for Camera in Background Apps/Split-Screen

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 08:43 AM PDT

Does anyone else have a need to use the front camera while in split screen or with a slideover app active? I find myself on a Zoom or Google Meet and want to take notes while being on video.

Currently, this is not supported and feel like it is the biggest missing feature, especially for a "Pro" device like the iPad Pro.

Buying Logitech Folio Touch in Canada

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 10:32 AM PDT

Hey guys! Just wondering if anyone knows when the Logitech folio touch will be available for order/preorder in Canada. Trying through the Apple and Logitech website I am unable to ship to Canada. Hoping to get my hands on one before my school year begins in September.

Do you know any messy note-takers?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 12:57 PM PDT

All I see is really neat, feminine notes but I'm not really into that "aesthetic". I'd prefer more rugged notes, like Kharma Medic. Do you know anyone else (Youtube, Instagram etc.)?

How do I adjust EasyCanvas pressure sensitivity in Photoshop?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 10:37 AM PDT

Recently tried using easycanvas with my ipad as a drawing tablet for photoshop. It detects pressure sensitivity from the pen, however I have to press extremely hard for the lines to show up, it doesn't draw a line when I lightly use the pen like it would in procreate. However a light input of the pen will still move the mouse normally. Does anyone have any idea how to adjust the sensitivity curve to normalize the pressure behavior?

Getting a "paper feel" screen protector was an absolute game changer for my iPad use.

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 03:57 AM PDT

I've loved the idea of having a tablet with a stylus. I had the first generation iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, and I couldn't ever get into writing with it. It just didn't feel natural for me. I thought a new generation iPad Pro and Apple Pencil 2 would change this. It didn't. Both of these devices never really got much more use than as "second" displays sitting on my desk scrolling through tweets or something. I just didn't like writing or drawing on them. I'm "semi-retired" and under 40 so I decided to go back to school for another degree or two. I really wanted to get myself into using the iPad for taking notes. I still couldn't do it. I just didn't like the feel. My handwriting felt awkward, was messy and unenjoyable.

Then on a whim I got one of these matter "paper-like" screen protectors. Not even expecting it to help much. Wow. It made my iPad from something I never used for productivity or work, to something I constantly use. My handwriting was instantly better than my actual handwriting on paper somehow. It felt great. Now I've replaced all of my journals and use the iPad exclusively for writing and taking notes.

I'm not sure if others have had similar issues with writing on the iPad, but before you give up on it, try and get a matte "paper-like" screen protector and use it for a day. It completely changed how I use my iPad.

I have 32gb iPad. So I cannot install that many separate apps. I was hoping the microsoft office app would be available for iPad bit it's still not available. So any free app you guys recommend for word and PowerPoint files? I don't use cloud services for those files. Also, Tried out adobe reader for pdfs but somehow it took 4gb size and couldn't figure out why, the files i had was total around 800MB. So deleted that app, foxit kinda works. Has anyone faced this issue with adobe reader?

Applecare+ for Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 04:23 PM PDT

Hello I recently bought Ipad pro.

I have monthly applecare+ on it. I really liked the device and ended up buying 2nd hand ipad pro magic keyboard and apple pencil 2.

Do I need to contact apple support and link the serial numbers to my ipad pro to receive applecare+? Or is it covered automatically?

I just wasn't sure if it will be automatically cause then if you have applecare+ on your ipad pro... you can just buy a broken apple pencil 2 or magic keyboard and get a replacement for $29.

    Notes and Scribble for Lecture?

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 03:45 PM PDT

With the upgrades to the default Notes app and Scribble, does anyone see themselves using Notes as their goto app instead of Notability or Goodnotes?

The improved handwriting editing features and text recognition in the iPadOS 14 Beta make the default Notes very appealing for taking lecture notes. I am starting graduate school in mathematics this fall and have previously used Goodnotes for everything, but I have found writing in Goodnotes for extended pages feels bad. I was planning on switching to Notability and dealing with the poor filesystem, but the improvements to the default Notes app seem to raise it a tier and it feels fantastic. The impression I get from this community is that no one actually uses the default Notes app with all the promotion of Notability and Goodnotes. Thoughts?

Is there any way to initiate a Sidecar session from the iPad?

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 02:58 PM PDT

I suspect the answer here is "No," but I'm hopeful that there is some undocumented way of doing this. A shortcut?

It seems like such an obvious feature to have...

    Fingers crossed.
