One Laptop to Compute them All! Posted: 18 Jul 2020 08:43 PM PDT Hey, do you guys think a MBP16 is the most versatile laptop nowadays? 1-it has access to all the Oss [Mac+Win+Unix] = coding heaven 2-content creation and consumption [dat 2k screen] 3-gaming [bootcamp] + [Egpu OR 5600m] any testimonies on how it performs with any of these? p.s. I'm asking 'cause I'd like to replace my old desktop with my first laptop :) [link] [comments]
Help! My macbook won’t let me update my apps?? Posted: 18 Jul 2020 10:38 PM PDT I just bought my macbook online from the official site and I recently came. I used the same Apple ID as my phone on my laptop but on my laptop in the App Store I have 3 apps that needs to be updated but I can't update it because it says "Keynote cannot be updated because it was refunded or purchased with a different Apple ID". Does anyone know how to fix this? [link] [comments]
Bought the 13” $1799 model and wondering whether I should just get 16” base. Posted: 18 Jul 2020 10:13 AM PDT A few things to start with: this is my first MacBook, and also I do believe in a concept of "too much laptop". I love watching reviews but I have seen a lot of people justifying getting a 16" for tasks that would be the same on a 13" (just with less screen). At least, that's been my take on it. I'd love to hear from people that have used both models. This is my personal laptop, I am a data analyst and my work gave me a separate MacBook Air for work (we will see how that goes lol, maybe I'll be impressed). I got a 13" i-5/16/512 because I use my laptop for browsing, YouTube/Netflix, photo editing in Lightroom (not professionally, yet lol). I haven't had a personal laptop in a few years, so other tasks I would like to pick back up is coding/web development and possibly some video editing for YouTube. The reason I'm sorta having second thoughts is that the 16" base is on sale for $2099 which makes the price difference only $300. Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely loving the MacBook so far. Makes me chuckle of how hardcore PC I was in college as a comp sci student (probably just because my bf was hardcore PC). The 13" is quite nice but I do think about the larger screen sometimes.... but the portability!! Ugh. I've had a heavier 16" PC I liked but that thing I had to lug. Just would love thoughts on this. This is my personal laptop and I'm not using my laptop for any professional work right now which is why I felt a little silly considering the 16" when I am still YouTubing tutorials on "how to use Lightroom". At the same time, I do plan to keep whatever Mac I settle on for 5-6 years. [link] [comments]
Wondering what the day to day differences are between a Pro and an air Posted: 18 Jul 2020 09:38 PM PDT I currently have an early 2015 Pro and I am considering upgrading soon for grad school. I have been looking at the information on the 2020 pro and 2020 air on the apple site, and leaning towards the air because of the price tag. I'm totally not fluent enough in all the lingo to know how the handful of differences may impact my day to day usage if I were to get the air over the pro. I'd be doing basic word processing, using it for general day to day stuff, and some coding (basic MatLab and R and general stats for a psych PhD). It seems like the air would be fine for what I am looking for, but I am worried that I am missing something between the lines here. Is there anything specific about the general functionality and usage of the air that would make the experience vastly different than what I'm used to with the pro? [link] [comments]

Should I trade in my MacBook pro 2017 for the newest version? Posted: 18 Jul 2020 09:15 PM PDT It would be around $879. My current laptop keeps having trouble with the battery. But if I get it fixed at Apple, would it be worth trading in? Everything else is fine. [link] [comments]

Posted: 18 Jul 2020 07:07 PM PDT Currently own a MacBook Pro retina 13 inch mid 2014. 2.6 GHz dual core i5 Nothing is wrong with It I was just going to hand It down to my brother since he is beginning college soon. Which MacBook Pro would be comparable to what I have or faster? Looking at 1.4GHz 512GB storage quad core & 2.0 GHz 512GB quad core What's the difference between gigahertz? Don't do crazy designs or filming just for everyday use maybe some Microsoft/work stuff here and there nothing crazy. [link] [comments]

Should I upgrade my mid-2012 Macbook Air? Posted: 18 Jul 2020 05:25 PM PDT I've been using the same mid-2012 13" MacBook Air for eight years now. Aside from replacing the battery once late last year, I've never really had an issue with it. Just some minor issues - it only lasts about an hour without the charger, and every four hours or so while working I have to restart Chrome due to everything slowing down. Should I get the latest version of the 13" Air/Pro? Again, my computer works fine, but maybe I just don't realise how much better/faster my computer could be because I'm so used to it. Or should I just keep it given it's still working fine? [link] [comments]
Macbook battery info vs. Coconutbattery info Posted: 18 Jul 2020 10:31 AM PDT Hey y'all! Just got a "service your battery" warning on my MacBook pro 15" mid 2015 retina. Coconutbattery, however, claims the battery is "fair". I am at 66-69% design capacity for my battery. Is it normal that coconutbattery displays a slightly different percentage? At 66-69% design capacity for my battery, should I indeed get it serviced? Also, mac reads 10% battery life, while coconutbattery reads 15% battery life (for example...numbers change depending on charge - but coconut and mac never line up) Thanks in advance for the help! Macbook: Can I do the quick set up initially, then go back later and do the advanced set up? Posted: 18 Jul 2020 04:29 PM PDT I'm about to buy my first Mac (Air 2020 if that's important to the answer). As it's all going to be a mystery to me I'm definitely going to go for the simple set up first, but once I'm more confident with the terminology and the OS's capabilities I'd like to try the advanced set up, without resetting it, of course. Is that possible? I know I can configure things in individual apps but it would be great to have the thing guide me through because I'm sure it'll suggest things I wasn't aware existed. Thanks for your help! [link] [comments]

had issues with macbook pro 2017, should i buy a new one? Posted: 18 Jul 2020 12:33 PM PDT i had the flex gate issue with my old macbook and am now scared that another design flaw will cause my macbook to require a $600 fix after 1.5 years. i thought about fixing the display but figured buying a new laptop would be more worthwhile because it might break again. i had never heard of this before i actually got the issue, was wondering if anyone knows of any similar design issues with the recent macbook pro? my college is loaning out macbooks because of the pandemic, but i'd rather just have my own laptop, plus the airpods that come with it would be nice because i'm thinking of getting a pair anyway. i just want to know the risks before spending another $1k or if i should invest in another laptop. ideally it would last at least 4 years with minor repairs. thanks! Zoom + Chrome + Macbooks = No good? Posted: 18 Jul 2020 12:29 PM PDT So I have like a base macbook pro from 2017 (I think) and nowadays everyone pretty much uses zoom. So whenever im in a zoom call on my macbook it uses SOOO much energy on my mac. like I read my activity monitor and I couldve sworn it said almost 90%. and I have a app called smfancontroll and my macbooks temp was climbin to like 150+F, so I had to turn on my fans to lower the temp. Worst part is when I use chrome with it too sometimes its like GG. Now I do have my macbook hooked up to a monitor and maybe that could be why? but can I get someone elses opinion please? I also did spill a good amount of water on my mac once.... idk if that helps. my mac still work tho lol [link] [comments]
MacBook Pro 2020 i3 vs MacBook Air 2020 i5 Posted: 18 Jul 2020 11:09 AM PDT Hi guys! I am a Computer Science student, so I will need to do programming and use heavy-load programs. Which model do you guys recommend for the above requirements? (I would use like Eclipse/ Jetbrains IDEA for programming, so it might a bit heavy) [link] [comments]
Does Apple replace 2018 MacBook pros' batteries under standard warranty? Posted: 18 Jul 2020 10:30 AM PDT I saw this somewhere a few months ago but never had the chance to look into it. Does anyone know if Apple actually does this for free? [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jul 2020 08:15 AM PDT Hey everyone, I am at a bit of a loss and wondering if anyone can help. I recently bought a Logitech Brio 4K webcam for my Macbook in addition to a Yeti Microphone. I wanted to utilize an external mic / cam for quality improvement and also because I use a CalDigit dock and my MacBook screen is closed 99% of the time. On to the issue - I cannot get the Logitech to consistently work. On some applications (like GoToMeeting) I can see that it is capturing me. But in many others, it does not. When I open the LogiCapture application, all I see is a black screen. When I tried to use OBS, same thing. I opened FaceTime, switched the video to the Brio and it didnt work. Any time I do this, the camera light activates so I know it is on and the computer recognizes it, there is just no video. Also, even weirder, I went to www.webcamtests.com. When I run the test, it detects the camera and I can see myself. While I have that site open, I can successfully capture myself in all applications. If I close webcamtests.com and try to open the same application, suddenly I am gone again. It is almost as if that website is finding whatever is blocking access to the camera and disabling it temporarily. Any ideas? Thank you all. [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jul 2020 03:58 AM PDT My wife recently got a MBP 2020 13 inch from work. I purchased a docking station from Amazon so she could swap between her personal laptop, and HP Elitebook, and her MBP. She is connecting to two 1080p HP Z23n G2 monitors through the dock. When using her HP or my ThinkPad T470 from work, both running Windows, I can use extended desktop mode. When using the MBP, MacOS only recognizes a single monitor and mirrors the desktop. If the MBP lid is open, it only sees the Mac display and mirrors the two monitors as one display. The only way to get two is to use a second adapter to convert the second port to HDMI. Thankfully, that adapter has power throughput also, so it can charge at the same time. The dock is this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0831BJQ3Y?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title Can someone give some guidance as to how to fix please. My initial search has not produced any workable results. Thank you. [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jul 2020 07:33 AM PDT Hi. Does anyone know of a USB hub that uses the thunderbolt ports? I have a late-2013 MacBook Pro. I will link the type of hub I'm after. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
