Going from iOS to macOS department (phone support)? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:02 PM PDT Anyone here make that transition before? I literally just got into the groove of being an iOS advisor, got faster at fixing problems and got my CSAT rating above 94%. Lots of great customers and honestly I really enjoy it. But now I've been offered entry to the macOS department. Basically get free pay for easy training for a few weeks then will be working full time. I'm being offered a pay increase (few bucks an hour) I've been told that macOS has significantly longer average handling times (way longer calls). I've only had a few iOS calls exceed 1.5 hours but apparently that's super common with macOS. Is it worth the pay bump? Reason I'm asking is because (I feel that) my supervisor is trying to pressure me into it, saying its an amazing opportunity and what not, also it seems out of the blue. I've been subjected to a lot of schedule changes and we've had really high hold times that at times exceed an hour, but that seems covid related. macOS has always insane hold times, these days up to 1.7 hours. Makes me think they have higher turnover rates? Please advise. [link] [comments] |

Macbook Pro Charger (USB C) fried Posted: 08 Jul 2020 06:46 PM PDT My charger has been playing up for awhile. Only working in certain ports, needs to be adjusted, etc. Yesterday I was forced into switching the ends around as the one I was using just refused to work no matter what. It worked fine for awhile and then eventually I plugged it in and I started to smell burning. I pulled it out, unplugged it and checked the inside which to my surprise had a small black burn mark. I've never had this happen with any apple chargers before, so I'm not sure if it's something I did or not, but I'd like to prevent it in the future if possible. Here's a bit more information: - Macbook Pro 2017 edition - Charger was plugged into a multi outlet board I'm wondering if I will need to buy an entirely new charger? Brick included? Only one end of the cord is damaged. [link] [comments] |
Don't see Start a Return link under my order details page help Posted: 08 Jul 2020 10:05 PM PDT I'm trying to return an iPhone 11 Pro and no apple store is open in my area. I went to the order details page and there is no option to start a return. I chatted with apple support through iMessage and asked if they can start the return process for me and email me my shipping label they told me NO I have to do it through the order details page. Can anybody help me? Thank you [link] [comments] |
How does Trade in through mail work? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:56 PM PDT Hey guys! I currently own an Iphone xs max and i'm looking towards upgrading to the newest iphone 11 pro max and since the apple stores are closed around here, I'm looking at doing it through mail. I'm about to move out of the country so I want to pay it off completely right away in full. Now my question is, how does the credit come back to me after I've mailed my old phone in? I don't mind if i have to pay the full price up front and then whatever will be sent back on my method of payment, but I definitely do not need a 450 dollars gift card to the apple store, seeing as I won't be shopping there anymore - again, moving out! Does anyone know in what way the "credit" works? I couldn't find the information that's 100% certain anywhere online, has anyone done this and has the info? It's absolutely pointless to me if I get the credit back as a gift card.... [link] [comments] |
Photos not importing correct date captured date of photos Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:52 PM PDT This is long, TL;DR at bottom! When the Photos app replaced iPhotos, I began using it as my primary method for organizing my photos. I had it store all photos in my external hard drive so all my originals were automatically sorted nicely by date captured (in folder hierarchy: year > month > date). I never really had any issues with the date captured metadata, even when importing photos from years and years ago that were taken on different cameras and that were files that had been through diff hard drives and computers. For the last year I used iCloud, but decided I hate it. I decided to download all my photos from iCloud (not synced with my Photos app because I'm scare it will delete my photos currently stored in Photos) and import them to Photos. When I download the pics and unzip, most of the files have the correct original date captured. But when I import to Photos, the date is changed to the import date and my photos are just one big mess and I don't get why it suddenly won't work. Does anyone know how to fix this or any programs that will properly organize my photos for me? TL;DR Photos not importing correct date captured date, desperately need a solution! [link] [comments] |
What the heck did I just get a notification for... Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:21 PM PDT Hi y'all. I would like to apologize in advance for how dumb this is lol. So my mac just dinged. Im certain it is a notification for SOMETHING, but the tone is one that I've never heard before and I cant figure out which app/website it came from. Where can I find a list of which tones are used as notifying sounds for which apps so that I can figure this out? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
iOS 13 XS unlocking even with mask on and passcode not entered Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:15 PM PDT As the title says, my iPhone XS on iOS 13 will sometimes unlock itself even though I'm wearing a mask and haven't entered my passcode. Could my S5 Apple Watch be the culprit? I know it's used for macOS unlocks but I didn't know if it was possible. [link] [comments] |

Need to convert videos clips that are between 0-3 seconds long to photos. Posted: 08 Jul 2020 08:59 PM PDT Long story short, an older relative for years now has accidentally captured video of things he intended to take pictures of, and now with about 5000 videos, he needs the shorter (0-3 second ones) to be turned into pictures. If anyone can think of a method to do this, I would be in your debt. [link] [comments] |
Search Barron hijacked my Laptop Posted: 08 Jul 2020 02:53 PM PDT I already checked Google settings for the default search engine, I deleted all my extensions, and I checked Admin profiles on System Preferences, but whenever I search something, it runs through searchbarron.com and goes to bing. The only things I haven't tried are downloading an anti-malware program and deleting+reinstalling Google Chrome. I don't want to have to use the anti-malware program as in some cases, it can really mess with the computer. For deleting and reinstalling Google Chrome, will this work and will all my bookmarks/extensions be removed? [link] [comments] |
I can't find a power button!!! Posted: 08 Jul 2020 08:32 PM PDT I just got an ipad mini and I can't find the power button. There's just the two volume buttons and a switch that can lock my screen in place. I've looked everywhere and I can't figure it out. I only managed to get it to turn on by plugging in the charger. The only other button it has is the home button and I've even tried pressing and holding but it only opened siri. Can anyone help me please. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Jul 2020 08:15 PM PDT Hey! I'm new to reddit, but I imagine this is the best place to ask for help. I have an ipod nano 4th generation (long and slim with no camera) that has a super weak battery. Luckily as I live in a cold climate, the batter hasn't started expanding... yet. It has so much sentimental value that I dont want to part with it. Does anyone know someone who can perform repairs on the irreparable, or perhaps a store that might be able to do it? Any insight would be highly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
MacBook Pro 2012 Catalina Keeps Shutting Off On Startup Posted: 08 Jul 2020 08:02 PM PDT I'm trying to help my sister with her albeit old MacBook Pro that has just recently seemed to die on us. It powers on & reaches slightly past the halfway mark on the Apple logo loading bar then shuts off on it's own. The only solution I've found to this is when I hold down the Command + R buttons to access the MasOS Disk Utilities section. From there I've tried applying First Aid to all the drives and if I let go of the Command + R keys at all during this process it will soon shut off within seconds. Any other routes I could try to get this up and running again? P.S. I'm not too familiar with Mac OS since I'm primarily a Windows user so I can't think of anything else. I've tried resetting the PRAM and the few other common alternatives listed on common sites, but the only thing that has gotten me past the loading screen is the Command + R function... Safari not loading certain sites Posted: 08 Jul 2020 08:01 PM PDT Has anyone had a problem where Safari doesn't open certain sites properly? Like Twitter, Reddit, Squarespace powered sites, Amazon and Ebay? I've had this problem for a while and IDK what's why it's like that. On Chrome and Firefox, it works fine although there are certain times they do have the same prob but a refresh makes it go away. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Jul 2020 07:58 PM PDT Hey! My partner and I share one MacBook Air. It was purchased in 2018, was repaired few months after the purchase because of some water being splashed on it. Everything was perfect up until the weekend almost two weeks ago. We watched Netflix for few hours on Thursday night, on Friday morning we left for the weekend. After we came back and tried to watch something on it on Sunday, it stayed on for a minute or two and turned off. It was really cold so thought it might have been the issue, kept it close to the heater to warm it up. It would turn on few times, once after the SMC reset, but would quickly turn off again. We went to the store, it was forwarded to one of the authorised Apple places. Today, we were sent an email saying that "liquid is present on the trackpad and battery" and that the replacement is needed. However, we both know for sure that we were the only people using it, nothing was spilled on it after the first repair two years ago. Not sure if it's worth to mention, but we live in New Zealand - we are in the middle of winter now, the mornings/nights tend to be damp/really cold. tl;dr MacBook Air was working perfectly, was left for two nights and stopped working. Liquid present on the battery/trackpad, but nothing was spilled on it. Is there any rational explanation for liquid present on the surfaces as shown in those pictures we were sent, knowing that for sure nothing was spilled on it? [link] [comments] |
Why is my brand new iPhone asking me to log into other people's Apple ID accounts? [iPhone SE] Posted: 08 Jul 2020 07:55 PM PDT Hi friends. So I got an iPhone SE today, brand new from the Apple Store. I'm in the process of transferring over my stuff from an iPhone 6S. First off, I choose the option to transfer Phone to Phone, which it says will take 20-25 mins. I set that up and it tells me Time Remaining: 2 hours, no movement from the bar. Frustrated, I cancelled that (and had to erase/reset the phone in the process) and figured I'd do it the "Setup and then download over Wifi way". It asks me to enter in the password for my Apple ID, and I do. It shows it's logged into my correct ID/email address. Then it immediately pops up with "Enter password to continue logging into [Random person's email address]. Confused I clicked whatever option it gave me and it told me to enter the birthday. Entered my birthday, and it was wrong (presumably it wanted this random person's birthday), so I hit cancel. It immediately pops up with a SECOND completely random email and tells me to enter the password to continue logging in. This time I hit cancel. (It's still showing as logged into my correct ID in the background throughout this). So......what gives? That's worrying? I feel like this would make sense maybe if I had purchased the phone used and it hadn't been wiped correctly, but this one is brand new fresh out of the box? Also...is it supposed to be really hot when it's setting up the phone? Part of the reason I finally upgraded from my busted 6s was because the home button was always scalding hot. My SE appears to be re-downloading all of my app data currently, one by one. I have 5 pages of apps and it's barely halfway through the second page, and the downloads are going at a glacial pace. Meanwhile, I don't appear to be having any issues with my wifi on any other device? And the entire phone is extremely hot? And has been for about an hour now? [link] [comments] |
Random Black screen on iPhone 11? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 07:54 PM PDT Anyone know or experience their iPhone screen randomly going black? Just happened to my iPhone 11 and while the screen was black my phone was still technically working because I could feel the haptic vibrations if I held my finger down on the screen on an app. It went back to normal after I restarted the phone but I'm just curious to know why this could happen. I believe it happened after I cleaned the phone with a Clorox disinfecting wipe. Thank you in advance :) [link] [comments] |
WHITE SCREEN OF DEATH! NONE OF THE SOLUTIONS WORK! Please help! Posted: 08 Jul 2020 07:46 PM PDT |
Posted: 08 Jul 2020 07:36 PM PDT Hello! I was suspecting battery swelling on my MacBook Pro (2014) as the track pad would raise up and click random things at times, then cool down and work fine. I sent it to Apple to repair, as their price was the lowest I could find around me (Pittsburgh, PA USA). I then was updated with a quote of almost $600 for a "hardware issue," which after a few calls to Apple support got me an explanation of a something along the lines of a video error due to overheating, and the word clamshell was thrown in there. (Sorry I'm not as familiar with all the lingo). I opted not to pay for the repair so I could get more info. I haven't gotten it back yet, but I'm hoping it doesn't come back worse than when I sent it. My question is...is this worth repairing? Or is it time for an upgrade? I'd also want to get the hard drive replaced as it's full, so that adds up fast. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 08 Jul 2020 07:07 PM PDT I'm looking for an app that will let me run any (and all) internet video in the background. No clue why Apple dislikes this feature so much. I just want to listen to videos on non-YT sites, without having my screen utterly dominated. I'm using an iPhone X, with the most recent version of iOS. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Jul 2020 07:04 PM PDT When the lid is closed, there's a very small gap on both sides of my MBP 16" that I bought last week. It's not noticeable until I press the lid and the base lightly. Is this normal or do I need to replace it? [link] [comments] |
