[Discussion] If you don't know how to downgrade, you shouldn't install Beta OS Posted: 07 Jul 2020 08:53 AM PDT Everytime there's a new Mac OS beta, there are posts asking for help with downgrade citing the instability, battery life, etc. If you're installing a Beta, especially if it's a closed Developer beta, you should be prepared for the consequences, and know the way out before hand. Beta software is, by definition, unstable software not meant for daily use. Please don't install it on your main machine, and don't go in without knowing what entails. The way to downgrade is always the same: Clean install, and has already been discussed ad-infinitum all over the Internet, and in this subreddit. Perhaps that could be displayed in a prominent place when new beta's come out? [link] [comments] |

How far back does Safari store history on iOS 13? Posted: 07 Jul 2020 10:46 PM PDT On my iMac I have set the Safari history to save for 1 year through Preferences and General settings. However when I check on my iPhone running iOS 13, the history only goes back until July 2nd and June 28th for iPad. The dates seem to be random on how far back they go. The history has never been cleared but all features such as cloud tabs and Handoff work perfectly. Is there a limit on how far back the history is saved on iOS 13 or is it supposed to be the same as the general settings on my iMac? [link] [comments] |
PLEASE HELP EXPERTS - Trying to save iMac! Posted: 07 Jul 2020 10:35 PM PDT Hi everyone. Really complicated problem so I would love some help from any experts. So I recently decided to sell my old iMac. To do this, I went about removing the hard drive by wiping it on disk utility. So I deleted everything. Then it goes into recovery mode, and because of how old it is I get an error that OS X Mavericks can not be installed because a download is missing. This is because of how old the Mac is. Another suggestion is to go into internet recovery mode. This does not work because it is mid 2011 and older as this was introduced in 2012. So, I can't install OS X in normal or internet recovery mode. The only drive I have available is recovery mode just to clarify. I can't find any more available solutions. There are two things that I think are still possible solutions, but I am unsure about how to go about them. 1 is to buy a $20 Apple disc with Mac OS in it and install. Will this work in recovery mode? I feel that this may be the only option left. 2. I created a USB drive and formatted to Mac and erased all content. I found a Yosemite install folder and copied and put onto USB. I tried to play around with installing this into the MAC drive by using disk utility, but I couldn't figure it out. Anyone know how to make a USB install work so I don't have to dish out $20? Is all hope lost or can this computer be salvaged? Everything is working fine, but I can't install a operating system on it. I would appreciate any advice. THANK YOU [link] [comments] |
First Macbook Ever, which one to chose? Posted: 07 Jul 2020 10:27 PM PDT Hey guys, so this will be my first time getting into a Mac OS device and i'm confused between the new MacBook Air 2020 (i5) and MacBook Pro 2020 13 inches base model. They cost the exact same unless i go for the 512gb version on pro which is 200$ more. I'll be using it for Presentations, Photo Editing, some basic video editing, listen to a lot of music and watch videos. My question is which is better buy and will give better performance? Considering they both cost the same. But one is i5 10th gen and the other is 8th. [link] [comments] |
[Question]: Genuine Macbook on Mojave 10.14.6 won't install Security Updates Posted: 07 Jul 2020 10:23 PM PDT Hey all, I have a perplexing problem, could really use some help. I have a genuine Macbook Pro (MBP 15,2 Late 2019) that I did a COMPLETELY fresh Mojave 10.14.6 installation on (build: 18G103). I have just logged into the machine (NOT connected it to the network or signed in to anything), NOTHING else has been installed or configured. Whenever I try to install ANY of the 2019-00x or 2020-00x security updates (double clicking on the PKG) I just end up with "Installation failed". Doesn't matter if I start with 2019-001 or not. I have verified that SIP is enabled (csrutil status: System Integrity Protection status: enabled). Any suggestions? I loathe using iCloud or signing into Apple accounts, etc so I really hope to install the security updates offline. [link] [comments] |
iMessage glitch since the last LAST update Posted: 07 Jul 2020 10:22 PM PDT Hello I wonder if anyone has any advice on what to do. My imessage would glitch every night at 3:00am where (shown in the provided photos) I would click on the message and it would be stuck on and highlighted. Once I get to the message, it would delete the other messages except the most recent one and wouldn't allow me to scroll. At 3:01am it would go back to normal. I have tried to restart my phone, turn imessage on and off and waited for recent updates to see if any of them would fix this issue. I even tried to see if it would do the same thing if I manually set the time to 3:00am and it didn't glitch. Has anyone had this experience with a different time? I'm not sure what to do. Thank you. Lost changes made to a numbers file Posted: 07 Jul 2020 09:37 PM PDT Apologies for the long post but I want to explain my situation as thoroughly as possible. computer info: macOS High Sierra, Version 10.13.6, iMac, Processor 3.06 Ghz Intel Core i3, Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, Graphics ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB, Serial Number WQ02304VDAS I was working from an office computer on a large excel file before the Rona hit after which I uploaded the excel file to dropbox so I could access it from home. I downloaded the excel file from dropbox onto my parents older mac computer. This computer doesn't have excel so it automatically opened Numbers and I worked on it in that program. I did this for several sessions, saving the file without changing the name so it would overwrite the past version each time then closing and reopening (by opening numbers, and selecting it from Recent) without a problem. When I was allowed back into my office I uploaded the file to dropbox and confirmed the file was there. Back at work I opened the file on dropbox and none of the changes have been saved. I am three states away and can't look through the computer myself but I've had my family look and the file on their computer also doesn't have any of the changes. We've searched through all the places we think it could have saved (documents, downloads, different users, home, computer) and we just keep finding the same unedited document that was originally downloaded, with excel and Numbers versions. Please let me know if there is any way to recover what's been lost; it was literally days of work. I am open to any and all suggestions but it might take me awhile to execute any attempts because I don't have direct access to the computer it should be on. Thank you so much for reading this far and please lend a hand if you can. [link] [comments] |
2019 13” MBP Not Connecting To Internet Posted: 07 Jul 2020 09:31 PM PDT I've tried so many things, I ran network diagnostics, and what jumped out at me was "conflicting country codes". I thought this was odd since I bought my MBP in the US, and still live in the US. My router's country code is 0x, and my MBP's country code is also 0x. Which makes sense since it's the first network I ever connected my MBP to. I noticed that the rest of the networks around me have the US country code, while my router and MBP have 0x as their country code, could this be the culprit? All of my other devices work fine on my network. [link] [comments] |

Kernel panics when using Google Maps on a 13" 2019 MBP - can anyone read the crash logs? Posted: 07 Jul 2020 09:16 PM PDT Here's the crash log. The panic happens occasionally when I try to search locations in Google Maps. It's not too frequent, but I don't like repeated kernel panics so I want to figure out the issue. It looks to me like a graphics issue, since all the dependencies are graphics-related. It's a relatively new computer so I'd really hope that the graphics card isn't experiencing issues, but if you think it's a corrupt driver then I can reinstall macOS. Any ideas/interpretations of the log would be appreciated. This is one of two separate reoccurring panics I'm experiencing, and they're getting a bit annoying. [link] [comments] |

Macbook pro got hacked from torrent file. Terminal Application was runned. Posted: 07 Jul 2020 08:57 PM PDT Hello I would like to ask for help. I think I have been hacked. Yesterday, I downloaded something of Piratebay. I know, I know, I'm stupid. The program was named something like a "flash installer", I can't remember exactly. Despite being different from the usual ".dmg" extension file, I stupidly insisted to try to run the program. After running and installing the program, it popped out the terminal application and entered a lot of codes. After this, it changed my google chrome entirely. The google chrome search engine was changed. As far as I can remember the search engine starts with a letter "P" and the search engine was hella sketchy. After I had witnessed this, Immediately closed all applications and restarted my macbook pro. After this, I deleted all traces of the virus program and did a reset on my google chrome. I deleted all cache, history, cookies, and everything in my chrome browser. After this I immediately downloaded Avast, Malwarebytes, and KnockKnock by Objective-See. I decided to run all this program one by one and found one virus file that was deleted after. The morning after, I had a notification that my google account was being logged in https://imgur.com/Jh3kCSc Good thing I had 2 factor authentication so my account was not fully breached. After this I reseted all my emails, accounts, apple id, and etc passwords. According to Avast, Malwarebytes, and KnockKnock by Objective-See there are no more any suspicious files. Am I safe? if not, what would I do next? Thank you. TLDR; I downloaded a torrent file that hacked my macbook pro [link] [comments] |
iPad Pro, frame damage but screen totally intact Posted: 07 Jul 2020 08:50 PM PDT potentially looking to purchase this 12.9 iPad locally. Concerned about some frame damage seen here wondering how much it might be to fix, I can find screen repair on apples site but not sure if just the frame may be cheaper, or is it potentially just a cosmetic issue? My iPhone keeps randomly blocking my contacts. Posted: 07 Jul 2020 08:49 PM PDT iPhone 8: OK I don't know what's wrong with my phone recently, it's already updated to 13.5.1 This last week, for some reason my phone has been blocking friends and family. I know it's not me. Whenever I call them, they would ask me why I never answer my phone when the try and call me and I'm confused because my phone is on and I'm not busy and I don't see any missed calls. Then they assume I must have blocked them but I didn't until I check their contact and it shows that they are blocked. I went through my contacts and 7 people were blocked. What the heck. Reset iPhone setup problem with original account Posted: 07 Jul 2020 08:27 PM PDT So I got a used iPhone that was factory reset, but the previous owner of the phone forgot to log out of his Apple ID before reseting it. When trying to set up the phone, I got a page that said "This phone was lost and erased. Enter the Apple ID and password that were used to set up this phone" and then gave a place for such information. I assume that the original owner has to do something, but what? [link] [comments] |

How hard is it to unlock a used iPhone from the major carriers? Posted: 07 Jul 2020 04:27 PM PDT Hi all! I'm looking to buy a used iPhone 11 Pro from Swappa, and I noticed the prices for carrier locked phones are slightly cheaper than unlocked ones. If I bought a used phone that is listed as T-Mobile (or any other carrier), how hard would it be to unlock? Would I then be able to use it on the carrier of my choosing? My understanding is that the iPhone 11 Pro only has one model number for the US, so it should support the bands of all major carriers, but I want to be certain that is the case before I drop so much cash. Any and all help is appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Jul 2020 04:18 PM PDT I can't find where it actually saved to anywhere. I redeemed the download code on the App Store and agreed to the terms/conditions. It said it was too old for this computer I'm using to create the disc, so it went somewhere in App Store. I didn't understand where it was saying it went. It's not in "purchase history" or anything. I'm so lost, and I can't get ahold of a soul with Apple Support. Any advice? [link] [comments] |
Can I not download iTunes extras on iPhone? Posted: 07 Jul 2020 07:57 PM PDT 11 Pro; bought Midsommar and one of the extras is the director's cut. Is there a way that I can download this instead of being forced to stream it? [link] [comments] |
iPhone Recommendations for my 75 yo Dad! Posted: 07 Jul 2020 03:53 PM PDT Hi, looking for some advice, please! It's my Dad's 75th next month and he needs a new phone so i thought this would be a good opportunity to get him on an iPhone. He's an advanced technophobe - loves eBay and WhatsApp but wouldn't know what a USB was! Problem is, he doesn't use his laptop and doesn't have wifi. Can he set up a brand new iphone on 4G with no issues? Will he ever be able to update iOS over his network and not on wifi? Also, i've never bought an iPhone outside of a provider contract, will he need a specific SIM? And lastly, what model would be best for an older person? I have an XR and an XS (personal and work) so i am thinking maybe an XR for the bigger size, but totally open to suggestions! Sorry for all the questions - it's tough choosing any gift for a man who doesn't want or need anything - so i just want to make sure it's something he'll enjoy. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
