Mac shutting down on startup(Yosemite) Posted: 02 May 2020 07:00 PM PDT Hi, I am using a Mac Pro 2012 running Yosemite (am currently borrowing it from someone) The issue started the day after i got the startup disk almost full error, so i cleared a few gb of files and shut the system off and went to sleep. Since then for the past 2 days I have had issues booting up, the system either shutting itself down during the Apple logo startup. It occasionally (after i let it sit for a long couple of hours) will take a bit longer to shut down (5 minutes after booting max at best, and maybe less than halfway thru startup bar at its worst). So it is a bit inconsistant, leaving me confused. It is unable to run recovery mode or safe mode, however I can run single user mode. But the issue is it says 'mac bash-3.2#' at the end instead of the root command. (Albiet, ive never ran single user mode in the past, however from what ive looked up it should say root instead?) I was able to run verbose mode and find what line its stopped on here -> https://i.imgur.com/JxnLVyzr.jpg I attempted to look into this online, but found little to no help, or what i did find was never resolved. I also tried resetting NVRAM, however that did nothing besides make the startup intollerably loud. Any suggestions what to fix? Or do u think itd just be an issue with the drive? there are also important files i need for my work on this mac, and need them ready within the next few days, so it's important to have this fixed asap [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 May 2020 10:46 PM PDT Hi, I recently received a A1278 from a family member. There only ask of me was to reformat it before i started using it. They had previously backed up all of there information. So i did just that. Once the mac was wiped i went to reinstall the OS, i had the common issues that everyone seems to have "this item is temporarily unavailable" so i then created a bootable USB with high sierra. The Mac was trying to install OS X Yosemite when i was trying without the bootable USB. When i plugged the USB in and held down the OPTION Key it would show the usb and the hard drive. When i selected the USB it was showing me a circle with a cross (like a do not enter street sign). Do i need to create a Bootable usb with Yosemite instead of any other OS. Also it is worth mentioning that the MAC has a completely dead battery and a trackpad that wont click. I have usb Mouse to avoid the trackpad and i also have the laptop constantly plugged in since the battery is dead. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 May 2020 09:55 PM PDT I like many others updated to Mac OS Catalina during the time that upgrades were beginning to be offered on Mojave. However, upon doing so I was not aware of the iTunes inconsistencies with not playing owned music if it's AAC encoded and a few others. From here I've decided to attempt to downgrade to Mojave again which I'm comfortable with, however o can not find a stable Mojave image anywhere. Even the links that I find point to the Apple store but from Catalina they are not accessible. Is there a tangible way to get the Mac OS Mojave image ? Otherwise I guess I'm just gonna have to wait for further iTunes updates. [link] [comments]
HELP: CANT CONNECT TO ZOOM (MacOS Catalina) Posted: 02 May 2020 08:39 PM PDT Our internet is fine. However, my Macbook Pro (updated Catalina) and my iPhone can't connect to Zoom. I tried other non-Apple phones here, and they can connect. I tried everything on Zoom support page. Safari can't even open the site, but Chrome can. [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 May 2020 03:00 PM PDT I have a MBP which is running Catalina and I want to run Mojave due to the 32bit compatibility. So can I partition a volume of my external HDD to run Mojave (like when I restart and hit the alt/option key) and have the rest of it function as storage for my MBP when running Catalina? In other words can a hard drive run Mojave on one part and also serve as storage for my internal SDD running Catalina (if partitioned)? [link] [comments]

Contextual Menu--remove items? Posted: 02 May 2020 04:25 PM PDT Is there a way to manually or a GUI program to remove context menus items? Example: "clean up section" "make alias" etc etc etc. So many cluttered things there I have never used and would make it quicker to find what I'm looking for if these were removed.. Been a Mac user for a decade but still remember back in Windows you could use the Registry for such tasks. Haven't had any luck searching online. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 May 2020 07:48 PM PDT I know windows and mac use different and incompatible file system formats. How then, is it possible, for example, to create a file in windows (say a .py file or a .txt file), send it over email to a Mac user, and have them read it? Shouldn't it be a completely unreadable (just a garbled mess)? [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 May 2020 06:46 PM PDT I need to upgrade my mid-2015 MacBook Pro from Sierra to accommodate some new apps. High Sierra will be sufficient but I am pondering going to Mojave. Would rather wait on Catalina since I hear it is still a little buggy. Recommendations / Cautions? [link] [comments]
How much RAM is necessary for iMac 2017 with 2 users? Posted: 02 May 2020 06:30 PM PDT We have an iMac 2017 3.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 with 8GB or RAM that we purchased early last year. Both my wife and I are constantly logged in now to work from home and it's getting kind of sluggish when we both have web browsers, word processing, email clients, etc. open (no games, graphic design, or anything fancy). I'm considering upgrading the RAM but want to know (1) will that actually help and (2) how much is enough? I can add an additional 32 GB (40 GB total) without removing the existing RAM, or remove the old RAM and upgrade to 64 GB. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 May 2020 02:41 PM PDT Hello everyone, I hope i can get a response quickly, I am in the process of restoring my Mid 2014 MacBook Pro 15" (upgrading SSD) and its been stuck on this "replicating" screen for about 30 mins now. Is there a way to restart the process without losing my data on the old drive? I need urgent help with this as i have a lot of important data on the original drive and I can't end up losing it. Original drive was running Catalina. [link] [comments]

Facetime not working when connected via ethernet? Posted: 02 May 2020 05:55 PM PDT Whenever I answer a call on my MacBook it fails. It seems to only happen when connected via ethernet. I'm using a dongle with an ethernet port for this. Does anyone know a fix? I checked my date & time settings etc, rebooted, restarted FaceTime...nothing seems to work. I can make outgoing calls fine but can't answer them. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 May 2020 05:51 PM PDT Hey, not sure if this is possible, but I'm looking for an inexpensive utility to run PC apps on Mac. I just bought a Glorious Model O mouse, and the stupid thing doesn't have software for Mac, which is very annoying because the mouse is perfect otherwise. Any ideas? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Can't use XBox One controller with MBP2015/Catalina Posted: 02 May 2020 07:45 AM PDT The controller pairs just fine with my macbook according to the Bluetooth dialogue and is recognized as "Xbox Wireless Controller". I can't connect it with a USB cable, but used that to update the firmware with an MS Windows 10 installation in hopes that this would help. When starting a game that should support controllers, such as Hollow Knight or Stardew Valley, none of the inputs affect the game. What can I do? I am running macOS 10.15.4 on a MacBook Pro 2015. The XBox One controller's model is 1708. Do you need any additional info to help me? [link] [comments]

Catalina upgrade to 10.15.4 gave more free space on my MacBook Posted: 02 May 2020 11:56 AM PDT There are some post on various media (social and other) where users describe problems when trying to upgrade Catalina. So I just thought that I would tell, that it also can go well. My 2019 MacBook Pro (8 GB, 128 GB SSD) came with Mojave when I bought it a very few monts ago. So back then I upgraded to Catalina 1015.3. No problems. Today I ran my CleanMyMac X which helps me delete all sorts of junk. Then I had 85 GB free space. After upgading to Catalina 10.15.4 I now have 87 GB free space after a Cleanup of the installation junk. The upgrade went well with no issues at all. On my MacBook there are only apps from Apple MacOS App Store. [link] [comments]
