My experience with Airpods pro hardware defects! (*Please* give your experiences also, if any) Posted: 02 May 2020 06:54 PM PDT Sorry for long post. TLDR at bottom! I got my Airpods Pro the day after launch. I won't recap much of how ANC has changed, I'm sure any early adopters and people that browse this sub already know. There is a thread from /r/apple here and here. The article attached to the second post is also very very good. One thing that I haven't seen talked about nearly as much is the hardware defects. On my first pair the right one started to have a click noise with every step I took starting in early January. The very first time I noticed this was after taking a flight and walking from the gate to where I was picked up (don't know if taking the flight and cabin pressure changes had anything to do with it, because there was zero clicking prior to the flight) I had already taken 2 flights with the Airpods, both were a week after getting them. The clicking was immediately annoying and I knew I was going to have to get them replaced eventually if it didn't go away. (EDIT: The clicking in this pair was after about a week of the intermittent buzzing noise that I see a few people post about) Oddly enough the clicking slowly went away in the right bud right around the time the left one started clicking, which was about a week after the flight. I just dealt with it by turning my music up some, but that just made it less noticeable (It was more of being able to focus on the music and less of the noise actually being drowned out). This was not a premium experience one would expect in a $250 pair of ear buds. There was a brief period of time where both buds were clicking but eventually the left one stopped. This back and forth went on for a few more weeks before I was finally able to go to the apple store. I explained the problem (in addition to listing them being on 2C54 as a problem) and they said I could get them replaced in a few days because they were out of stock. A few days later I'm there and after checking in the employee goes to the back and comes out with just a right bud. I'm guessing that when the first employee used the buds when I first visited they noticed only the right bud was clicking and only listed that one to be replaced without telling me (this is despite me explaining why both need to be replaced). I was confused and said that I was expecting a left and right replacement. The employee didn't even ask why and immediately said they would go see if they had left one in stock. A few minutes later they came back with "the last one they had" and I was very happy. I left the store with buds that were as good as the ones I had at launch (2B588 ANC issues aside). Over time ANC got much worse on these buds. There have been zero software updates (officially) since December. That means this CAN ONLY BE because of the silicone. This is somewhat minor as I can just get new tips every 3-4 months at a very cheap price but that is just not apple like. Now I can't really remember when this started (if it was before or after my flights) but my right bud started to click. I was immediately annoyed because it meant that the issue wasn't just a rare thing that you might have on your first pair that requires a one time replacement. This meant that unless apple changes something with their manufacturing process this will be a common issue that could require me to get replacements multiple times (assuming I didn't just get unlucky with two pairs). I couldn't go into the Apple store to replace them (COVID) and was worried about sending them in online. Just like before the left one started to click a few weeks later, but the right one only got worse and started to sound like a little bead rattling around in there. This was unbearable but I was mostly home so I just had to try to ignore it when walking short distances around the house (other than when exercising, that was so bad I just took the right one out). (EDIT: Forgot to mention WHY I was worried about sending them in online, which is kind of funny because the reason is kind of big. The left one had this issue where when I first put it in, and when I would apply any pressure pushing it in my ear, would sort of blast static noise for a period of 1-10 seconds. Usually lasted for about 4 seconds but 1 was the shortest and 10 was the longest. Thing is this was really irregular and I didn't know if the person testing for defects would have it come up so I was worried they would deem my left bud as not having issue and charge me for its replacement) The issue slowly got worse and worse for seemingly no reason. The left one didn't get worse but also didn't get better, still a click when walking that was similar to my first pair (not as annoying because, again, I've pretty much only been home). About a week ago I noticed the right one felt like a piece of plastic in my ear, and I know this might sound weird to anyone who doesn't have airpods pro. It just feels like a hallow piece of plastic in my ear that plugs it up. Transparency still worked and I could still hear everything outside just as well as before but my ear felt physically blocked. Was really annoying. All of a sudden today I put them in and the right one never felt like it turned on. Unless you have ANC and transparency mode off, you can tell when they turn on just by outside noise fading away (if anc is on) or outside noise fading in (if transparency is on). This didn't happen it just sat in my ear. I adjusted it in case the sensors didn't realize it was in my ear but nothing happened. The force touch button had audio feedback, and that only happens when the bud is detected as being in your ear, so I knew that nothing was up with the sensors. Switching modes had an effect on the left bud, as usual, but the right but just stayed in what felt like the off mode. This pretty much confirms that the ANC microphone is related to the rattle noise. I'm guessing either the ANC microphone is broken, or the connection to the processing chip is disconnected or something like that. This is a major hardware defect. Apple hasn't acknowledged anything and I'm worried that if I have to replace my next pair after the manufacture warranty I will have the pay the AppleCare+ $30 charge to replace buds. I'm more worried that after AppleCare+ runs out they won't replace them. All I can hope for is that I got extremely unlucky and got 2 pairs that have a rare defect. But since I have seen quite a few early adopters talking about this in comment sections (mostly on posts about the ANC downgrades) it seems it is not so rare. TLDR: My first pair started clicking with any movement of my head after 2 months. My replacement pair started doing the same after a similar period of time, with the right one getting significantly worse over time and eventually resulted in ANC and Transparency not working. Please share any problems you have had with Airpods Pro! [link] [comments]
Backdrops - Now Available for iOS! (Promo Codes inside!) Posted: 02 May 2020 06:22 AM PDT It's here! After 4 years of being an Android exclusive app, Backdrops is now available on iOS! I'm really proud of how it turned out. The main, sleek look of the Android app returns while freshening up the style to fit in with the clean, Apple design language. Backdrops is a free wallpaper app that features high quality, original designs created by us, along with some fun and sometimes witty descriptions. It's not like most other background apps that just take images from Google. You can also share some of your own photos and designs in our Community section. App Store link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/backdrops-wallpapers/id1500143735 Here's a preview shot! https://i.imgur.com/Sj2TCob.png To celebrate the release, I'm giving away 50 promo codes for Backdrops Pro! Backdrops Pro is an in-app purchase which unlocks an ad-free experience and exclusive wallpaper Collections within the app. Here is a Google Doc sheet with 20 codes, first come first serve! It's a 12 digit code, you'll see the last digit in the 2nd column. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1X0csoLSNrj2dc39l70NuNJPoXqpe0DJV6s5p76z2EX8/edit?usp=sharing EDIT: Codes above are taken! I'll also be dropping 30 more codes randomly in the comments. Stay alert! Make sure you're signed in with Apple within Backdrops after claiming a code so Pro can be enabled! Let me know what you guys think! Leave us an App Store review! We'd really appreciate it. I've been dying to hear feedback and ideas from the Apple Community about Backdrops; the app itself and our designs. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Anti-social media app minutiae Posted: 02 May 2020 11:45 AM PDT Hello, We're the creators of worlds first (and probably only) anti-social media app, Minutiae. Minutiae is an anti-social media app that encourages its participants to document life's ordinary and mundane moments. Once a day - all participants receive a notification at the exact same minute regardless of timezone urging them to capture whatever is in front of them there and then. This daily ritual is shared by thousands of participants around the world every single day. And perhaps best of all - the project ends after 1440 days, has no likes, profiles or comments and offers an intimate view into a random stranger's life during a one minute window once a day. Wired Magazine called the project the "The curious app that captures your unfiltered life" and Financial Times: "Anti-social' photo app offers antidote to Instagram and Facebook". [concept] Ambient Notification Posted: 02 May 2020 12:02 PM PDT Instead of having the entire screen and Face ID light up every time a notification arrives, Apple should implement a minimal dim lockscreen. Screen and Face ID will only activate when display is tapped, allowing for efficient battery life. Apple already has a very similar feature for Do Not Disturb, called 'Dim Lock Screen', but this takes it a little bit further. [link] [comments]

BONUS 🎉:
Views is primarily a news-first, podcast-second app so a lot of the revolutionary features fall under the section of the app which displays news articles. That being said, I am working on a bunch of podcast-based features like importing OPML files, creating playlists, getting notified on new episodes, and more! There is also a tvOS and iMessage app in the works. To get a free copy of Views 4:
