In 2020 why does MacOS still not fully implement the MST of the displayport 1.2 specification Posted: 17 May 2020 09:41 AM PDT Our Windows brothers and sisters know what I'm talking about. You have a thunderbolt 3 hub, and plug in your macbook pro. The three displays off the hub all show one display in mirrored mode . But in bootcamp Windows will use the hardware and show three extended displays. If your workflow, like mine, involves a large 4k display and two side displays, and you like to swap out your workstations plugged into a CalDigit Hub with thunderbolt 3, then the mac messes up your workflow. You have to turn off two of your displays, or connect each display to one of four USB-C / Thunderbolt 3 ports. Apple, please give some visibility and resources to this use case. I'm holding off buying a macbook pro to use alongside my Lenovo P1 workstation for this reason. [link] [comments]
Should I upgrade my MacBook Pro 2012 to Catalina? Posted: 18 May 2020 02:06 AM PDT It says I need to upgrade to use iTunes. My MacBook is a speedy beast. I have the 2012 Retina with 120GB SSD, i5 and 8GB Ram. I'm afraid Catalina will make it slow. Should I upgrade? [link] [comments]
Stop Google Chrome from automatically opening on reboot Posted: 17 May 2020 06:53 PM PDT Like the title says, I want to know if there is a way to stop Google Chrome from automatically opening on a reboot. I know that you can change the login items in settings, and I have removed Chrome from that list multiple times, but every time I open and then quit the app it's been moved back in to the open at login list. I've also looked in Chrome's settings for a way to stop this but I couldn't find anything. Is there any way to stop Chrome from opening at login? [link] [comments]
Is MacOS optimised on a per mac basis? Posted: 17 May 2020 05:40 AM PDT As tittle mentions, i'm just wondering on how they manage to get solid performance on a range of macs either old or new. Does apple make slight changes on the os for it to run better on certain mac computers that needed it or is the os just made and the drivers just take care of how well their os runs on certain machines. Would love technical information on this. Thank you. [link] [comments]

4k 10bit video stuttering on Macbook Pro Posted: 18 May 2020 01:27 AM PDT I'm trying to watch a 4k HEVC 10 bit video using VLC on my Macbook pro 2019 15inch but somehow the frame rate is not very smooth. It stutters every 3s, does anyone know how to fix this issue? My specs: i9-9880h-16gb ram-Radeon pro 560x [link] [comments]
Night Shift & Display Profiles broken? Posted: 18 May 2020 01:20 AM PDT Since I cleaned up my Startup Disk with OmniDiskSweeper (I deleted a lot of caches), i cant turn on night shift or change my Display Profile in system preferences. I restarted my mac (MacBook Pro), but it wont work. Can someone pls help me? [link] [comments]
Catalina Input Monitoring woes Posted: 18 May 2020 12:13 AM PDT Has anyone run into issues regarding Catalina's strict security prefs? This seems to be a related issue regarding enabling input monitoring for apps, the developers claim this is a simple matter of giving the apps permission under security prefs > input monitoring but it doesn't seem to work for my game controllers (ANY of my previously useable game controllers) or my kensington trackball. I can use the trackball like an ordinary mouse but the software can't detect the device. What a pain. [link] [comments]

Upgrade from High Sierra to Catalina Posted: 17 May 2020 09:29 PM PDT Hi all, I am currently upgrading my Early 2011 MacBook Pro from High Sierra to Catalina using dosdude's Catalina Patcher ([https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxFzZWqoCng]) I have followed all his steps and have created a USB Bootable Catalina Installer. My SSD (with High Sierra) is currently formatted as APFS Encrypted. Am I able to upgrade from High Sierra to Catalina without losing any of my files? [link] [comments]
MacOS Compatible Pro Style Microphone Posted: 17 May 2020 04:32 PM PDT Looking for a microphone to be stationed at my desk connected to my 2019 15" MacBook Pro. Not looking to spend a fortune, just want my audio on voice/video calls to be crystal clear. Suggestions please! [link] [comments]

What the F*#% is Tim Cook doing to Apple’s macOS Posted: 17 May 2020 05:21 PM PDT Since Tim Cook took over, macOS and MacBook sales have tanked. I'm not necessarily complaining about nostalgia issues like the keyboard but how could they call a laptop 'Pro' and not even have an SD card slot. In addition the extremely unreliable USB-C ports which need SMC resets to get them working doesn't help. I'm now realizing there's a huge security flaw with Safari when clearing history/cookies/cache, even with the Develop tab. I'm so upset because Apple was always my favorite company, I advocated Apple computers to everyone I knew. Now iOS devices seem to be the most reliable Apple product and macOS is this side gimmick which feels like a complete scam. In the 90's they couldn't do this because Apple only had macOS but now with iOS and the dedicated hardware—iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch—I think it's time for Apple to release macOS as a license for PC builders to use. I'm a game editor and video editor, and I can't stand Windows. Apple could start selling their monitors, or hell even a processor (advertising it works best or only with macOS) but they need to open up macOS if it's going to ever survive and not turn into a hybrid gimmick of iOS. It seems like Tim Cook is desperately trying to turn macOS into an iOS+ device which runs x64 programs. No one is going to buy that because the only people who use those programs are people who edit or program. The icing on the top would be for Apple to buy Sony or PlayStation (or partnership) and integrate it into macOS, putting them directly in competition with Windows in the gaming PC world. The deal breaker will be letting us build our own PC systems. It's one thing to give an iOS device to who knows who behind the closed Genius Bar doors of Apple, it's another thing to give them an entire multi-thousand dollar computer. It's getting ridiculous and Apple needs to change. iOS can be their icon with dedicated hardware and macOS can go straight into competition with Windows for editors, gamers, and PC fanatics. Maybe my hopes are too high and people don't want to get their hopes up, but all macOS device sales are tanking and PC sales are growing. It's been a pattern the last few years. Apple can then go all in on iOS hardware and truly focus on what matters for portability. A hunky x64 system with fans and tinkering noises is old school, I'm shocked portable people still are going with these devices. They could have iOS devices streaming macOS programs for portability, why would they do what they're doing? [link] [comments]
Massive Apple security flaw with Safari on macOS Posted: 17 May 2020 04:51 PM PDT I'm making a second post because this is extremely serious and seems like a bug by the way it will happen randomly and rarely. Clearing history and cookies in Safari will NOT log you out of accounts. This is a HUGE security flaw and it happens only sometimes. Do not trust safari on other computers if you plan on logging in. There's a bug. [link] [comments]
Using sidecar with different Apple IDs Posted: 17 May 2020 10:20 AM PDT Macbook Pro is under my Apple ID, iPad is under my wifes. Any hacks or work arounds that let me use Sidecar without changing the Apple ID on one of the devices? I never use the iPad (thus her ID) but itd be nice to use sidecar every now and then. I know Duet exists, but Id rather not pay for an app that I have native functionality built in for free. [link] [comments]
Safari on macOS Mojave will not delete data Posted: 17 May 2020 04:14 PM PDT I've tried everything and I can not remove website data. It says I have no cookies, no history, yet I'll go to google and all the accounts are still saved there.... This is a HUGE security flaw. [link] [comments]
Should I let system files access to internet? Posted: 17 May 2020 03:57 PM PDT When installing a new firewall, I always get several system files requesting Internet connection like: Usr/libexrec/configd, "" ""/LSD, /trustd, nsurlsrssiond and few more. What happens if I don't let them access to the internet but just let them run offline? [link] [comments]
I don't want a MacBook with a "butterfly" keyboard... Posted: 17 May 2020 11:24 AM PDT So, I'm in the market for a MacBook Pro. Reading about all the issues people had (and are still having) regarding the "butterfly" keyboard, I know I don't want one. If my info is correct, MacBooks had the "butterfly" keyboard from 2015 through 2019. I don't want to spend $1200+ on a new MacBook. EDIT: It has been clarified by a couple posts here that the MacBook Pro didn't get the butterfly keyboard untiol 2016. Thanks for clarifying! Question: Is the 2014 or 2015 MacBook Pro worth getting in 2020. It would be a secondary computer as I have a MacMini as my primary. [link] [comments]
How do I turn ON the "beep" sound when Dictation is turned on and off? Posted: 17 May 2020 01:28 PM PDT For whatever reason, Dictation often turns off suddenly in the middle of transcribing, and there is no "beep" tone to alert me, so I waste time talking without it recording. Does anyone know how to turn ON the beep sound on MacOS Catalina on my MacBook Pro so that there is a sound every time dictation is turned on and off? I don't see it under the Dictation settings tab. Also, any ideas why Dictation turns itself off randomly while I'm still talking? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Important question about deleting user accounts from MacOS Macbook Posted: 17 May 2020 09:52 AM PDT Hi everyone, So I am wanting to delete my account from a specific Macbook. And I am a bit concerned about how Macs delete or save old user data. When going to delete the account, you are given three option, and one of them is save the files in a deleted users account. Does this mean that another user can access all my old files once I delete the user account from the mac?? This seems absurd, that any other user could just delete my account at any time and then save the Home folder or whatever and gain access to my personal files. Maybe I'm not understanding how this works and maybe I'm wrong, but please somone explain this to me. [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 May 2020 09:23 AM PDT My MBP 2017 fan's works very fast these days. For example normally when i playing game my fans speed like 4000-4500rpm. But nowadays they are working full speed (5900). Whats the reason? Is it about weather? Because the weather is very hot these days, likely 38-39 degree. But also when i close the game the fan speed decreasing to 2000rpm. If the reason weather, they should work fast also when i close the game, am i right? What do you suggest? Should i reset smc?
