Finally the setup is complete. 12.9” is the right choice for a Mac replacement.

OG iMac keyboard and mouse work great! Now if I had only gotten the 12.9” version...

Can’t believe that the iPad is this good for note taking. Going to be a game changer for me as a design student. From all the advice I gathered from this subreddit, I went with the iPad Air ❤️

Opinions on GitHub Codespaces & Xcode?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 09:28 AM PDT

I have a 13 inch MBP right now and I mainly use it for programming and my 11" iPad for schoolwork. I just saw the announcement of GitHub Codespaces which could allow me to program in Python using a browser (hopefully in a native app in the future). The only thing missing is Swift, but that seems like it won't be a problem soon due to Xcode coming in the next OS update.

Would these two things make the iPad suitable for development? I was thinking about upgrading my MBP to a 14 inch model that supposedly is coming out next year but I might be able to use the iPad w/ magic keyboard instead. My only concern about that is the durability of the keyboard itself, but it seems amazing in other aspects.

    Any opinions/thoughts?

I have some emf blocking stickers and looks like they need to be closest to the antenna

I have a question for all of you, what’s the most you would pay for a used Apple Smart Keyboard Folio Case 11 inch model from 2018?

Thank you for responding, if you did!

    iWork or Office

    Posted: 08 May 2020 10:54 AM PDT

I'm using iWork now (pages specifically) for typing estimates etc. Any one using office that thinks it's actually worth the money to change?

Anyone have an Adonit Note+ or Pixel Pro? If so, how does it compare to the Apple Pencil?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 08:33 AM PDT

Wondering about how lag, app support, battery life, palm rejection, and jitter are compared to the Apple Pencil and whether they're worth it or not.

Old fart here - new to iPad (file sync for offline viewing - entire directories)

    Posted: 08 May 2020 07:58 AM PDT

So, I'm being a bit of curmudgeon with a dash of luddite.
I have a directory on my Mac for all of the Product Docs for things I work on (AWS, Red Hat, etc...) and I'd like to have them available offline (I fly quite a bit for work, or.. I used to anyhow - either way, I like have my docs available and not rely on connectivity). I used to have rsync scripts and such to keep my Mac directories in-sync with my iPad and that no longer seems possible.

Am I missing something - or is this just how it is now? Are there tools/services and process you'd recommend to replace my old-school way of managing some (almost) static doc repos?

    Thanks

Coming up next: replacing iTunes with "Music". WTF? Seriously... W... T... F?

iPad Pro: Bug Galore? Add your bugs here and maybe the overpaid Apple devs will take note

    Posted: 08 May 2020 01:34 PM PDT

I'm loving my magic key board on my 12.9 iPad Pro. I decided on this setup instead of a new MacBook Pro because I have a very solid desktop PC that I work & game on. The iPad allows me to do different things like draw and take advantage of the many iPad only apps. It's p cool bruh.

But I'm wondering if anybody else is noticing that the iPad and the magic keyboard have some unforgivable bugs... this is an expensive setup and I am extremely bothered by the lack of attention to detail. What's up with these Apple devs?

Here's a list of bugs I've found just off the top of my head:

    • When editing text (in WordPress or SEMrush - extremely popular platforms that work flawlessly on my previous MacBook Air and on my PC, and, oh bonus! Also right here in Reddit):
    • The caps lock straight up doesn't work, in fact it does the wrong thing entirely. It cycles through different keyboards (English, emoji, Grammarly).
    • If I go to insert a word in the middle of a sentence, it automatically puts a capital letter.
    • Highlighting text cannot be done in the traditional method of clicking and dragging. Wtf...

    • When adding a Google account today in the Google app, I couldn't type in the form to input my email address. I had to go to Chrome, type in my email address, and copy and paste it over.

There are other bugs that I can't remember (please add yours). The thing that pisses me off most is the fact that these are basic functions. All that I'm expecting is a keyboard to behave like a keyboard. It's a character input... if it works with their onscreen keyboard, shouldn't it work with the EXPENSIVE AS HELL magic keyboard?

Apple should be embarassed by this.

Any Word apps that integrate Endnote?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 09:31 AM PDT

Currently doing a PhD, and my whole referencing database is on Endnote, which is what I have on all of my devices. Wondering if there was anyway to reference whilst I write from my Endnote database. As far as I can tell, the Endnote app lets you manage your database, but you can't actually use it to insert a reference into an app.

    Magic Keyboard Trackpad issue

    Posted: 08 May 2020 12:34 PM PDT

    Magic Keyboard Trackpad issue

After two weeks of use I am very impressed by the new Magic Keyboard and finally ditched my laptop for an iPad. There is just one thing, that sets me off, every time I use my device. It seems like there is no glue attached to the material right under the trackpad. It just feels loose. Ever since I found that, I cannot unsee it. The overall build is so well. Why did they save up at that point?

    Magnetic Case Interrupting Wifi?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 10:41 AM PDT

Has anyone else noticed that the magnetic flip cases seem to effect their wifi connection?

I was using some weak wifi this morning, and I noticed it would get a little stronger if I did not have the magnetic flip case folded against the back of my iPad Pro.

Biggest complaint for iPad OS so far is the “app switcher” functionality.

    Posted: 07 May 2020 08:50 PM PDT

I wish this feature worked more like full screen apps on MacOS. i.e. I want to go into the app switcher view and drag two together to make them split screen. I also want to be able to manually rearrange them rather than them being organized by most recent. The way it's setup makes sense on an iPhone, but should be updated to mirror the Mac equivalent for the iPad. It would greatly improve multitasking IMO.

Haven't seen this posted as a limitation yet and thought to see if you guys had a fix or any comments.

Those who got the magic keyboard but also write a lot with Apple pencil

    Posted: 07 May 2020 05:12 PM PDT

Ive heard of some people who got the magic keyboard but they also write a lot with their Apple Pencil. Do you find the compromise of taking off the iPad from the magic keyboard every time you write worth it or would you rather have stayed with something like a Smart Keyboard foilio?

I know I would love to have the new trackpad + light up keys but I'm a big Apple Pencil user since I'm a student so I just want to hear about other people experiences.
