iOS Jailbreak [Meta] Frequently Asked Questions and Important Information - Check Here Before Posting

Generally you can only restore to an iOS firmware that is signed by Apple. To see which firmware versions are signed by Apple, you can see this page. However, there are some exceptions.

What iOS version should I be on so I can use the next jailbreak and when will it release?

Nobody knows which iOS version(s) will be supported by the next jailbreak or when it will come out. It just depends on what exploits are found and which versions they support.

watchOS iOS version requirement

NOTE: there is no way to bypass the iOS version requirement

NOTE: ECG on watchOS 5.1.2 requires iOS 12.1.1 or higher, there is no way to bypass it or any requirement.

NOTE: watchOS will be update only if your iOS is supported

Note: only Apple can downgrade watchOS

watchOS 6.2 and later requires iOS 13.4 or higher

watchOS 6.x requires iOS 13 or higher

watchOS 5.2 and later requires iOS 12.2 or higher

watchOS 5.x requires iOS 12 or higher

watchOS 4.3.x requires iOS 11.3.x or higher

watchOS 4.x requires iOS 11.x or higher

watchOS 3.3.x requires iOS 10.3.x or higher

watchOS 3.x requires iOS 10.x or higher

watchOS 2.x requires iOS 9 or higher

watchOS 1.x requires iOS 8.2.x or higher

Resign jailbreak Apps

Temp solution for certificates revoked on iOS 13.2.2 and lower

From Windows/Mac/Linux use Cydia Impactor.

From your device you can use Ext3nder Installer on https://julioverne.github.io/ (64bit devices only).

From your device you can use ReProvision on http://repo.incendo.ws/ (64bit/32bit devices).

For Mac (or Mac VM) users, a foolproof method is to use Xcode and iOS App Signer.

For Windows and Mac users, you can use Altserver (Windows post, Mac post).

For Mac users, you can use AltDeploy.

Removing jailbreak

iTunes (or Finder on macOS 10.15 Catalina) Method

First of all, connect your device to your computer, open iTunes (or Finder on macOS 10.15 Catalina), click on the device and backup your data. This will allow you to restore your data back onto your device if you choose to do so. (be sure iTunes is updated)
In iTunes (or in Finder on macOS 10.15 Catalina), click on "Restore iPhone" (this will depend on your device – it could be iPad, iPhone or iPod). This will ask you if you want to restore and update to the latest iOS. Once complete, your device will be restore to the latest iOS.
At this point you'll get an option, either setup as new which won't put any of your data back onto your device, or restore backup which will put your data back onto your device.

Cydia Eraser

If you have a device running iOS 8.1 - 10.3.3, you could use Cydia Eraser. Cydia Eraser will wipe the device to factory settings and remove the jailbreak on the device but keeping it on the same iOS version so you can jailbreak again. Note: some people report that if you have changed a font with BytaFont, it can cause Cydia Eraser to fail and ruin the jailbreak unless you revert the font to stock first.

OSRestoreX

If you are running iOS 10, you can use OSRestoreX. The instructions are listed on that link.

Demeridian

If you are running iOS 10 Meridian jailbreak, you can use Demeridian. The instructions are listed on that link.

Delectra

You can use Delectra on all iOS 11.The instructions are listed here.

SemiRestore 11 Lite for Electra iOS 11-11.1.2

You can use SemiRestore 11 Lite on iOS 11-11.1.2.The instructions are listed here.

SemiRestore11 / Rollectra for Electra iOS 11.3 - 11.4,1

You can use SemiRestore11 / Rollectra for iOS 11.3 - 11.4.1 to unjailbreak and go back to stock iOS. This tool is iOS 11.3 - 11.4.1 and you can find the deb on https://cydia.hbang.ws/ and the .ipa here https://github.com/pwn20wndstuff/Rollectra11/blob/master/Rollectra-1.1.ipa .

Restore without updating via rootfilesystem DMG

"restore rootFS" option in Checkra1n for iOS 12.3-13.x.x

Signing

When is Apple going to stop signing iOS x.x.x?

No one knows for sure. Historically, Apple stops signing older versions of iOS about a few weeks after the latest version is released. However, there are always situations where Apple stops signing a version of iOS way sooner or way later than expected.

How do I update/downgrade to an iOS that is still signed by Apple?

Download the IPSW here.
Connect your device to your computer, open iTunes, click on the device and backup your data. This will allow you to restore your data back onto your device if you choose to do so (you won't be able to restore a backup from your current iOS if you are using this method to downgrade).
In iTunes, while holding alt/option on macOS, or Shift on Windows, click "Restore Device". Select the downloaded IPSW.
Once done, you'll get an option to either setup as new – which won't restore any of your data back onto your device – or, restore, which will restore your data back onto your device.

How do I save SHSH2 blobs so that I can potentially downgrade/upgrade to an unsigned iOS version at a later date?

You cannot save SHSH2 blobs for iOS versions that are no longer signed.

App Store Related

An app requires a newer iOS version

This usually won't work no matter what you try, since the app probably requires APIs only available in the newer iOS version. Sometimes you'll see a suggestion to edit SystemVersion.plist to fake the newer version, which is generally a very bad idea – a lot of things depend on that version number being correct. For example, changing this version number will cause the Corona and Rocky Racoon untether packages in Cydia (for 5.0.1 and 5.1.1) to automatically queue up for uninstallation, since they know they're not supposed to be installed on 6.x (or whatever version you're faking). Another example is that if you fake iOS 6 while being on iOS 5, the App Store will start getting pages formatted for the iOS 6 version of the app, which won't work with the iOS 5 app. It's hard to fix problems caused by SystemVersion.plist being wrong.

Bypassing Jailbreak Detection

The free tweak xCon can help you work around this limitation in many apps. Check out the xCon status chart on TheiPhoneWiki for more details. If xCon does not work for you, check out tsProtector P which may help. Flex 2 is also a good app that can do this if a patch has been made for it. There is also Liberty Lite, NoSub and NoSubstitute (Electra), UnSub on on https://repo.nepeta.me/ (works for A12 devices ). Right now there is no way to bypass jailbreak detection in Fortnite. For Mario Kart on A7-A11 devices check here, for A12 here.

An app requires to be updated for iOS 11/12

That means that the App is a 32bit App and there is no way to run it on iOS 11 and later.

Specific Apps and Tweaks

When will a tweak be updated?

Only the developer can answer this (unless they have already stated publicly any information). You can contact the developer of the specific package by going into that package in Cydia, tapping "Author" and then tapping "Author" on that page. You can also check to see if they have Twitter and if they posted anything about an update. Here is a list of some developers on Twitter.

I deleted a default repo. How do I get it back?

You can get it back by clicking on the "More Sources" section on the Cydia tab and adding it back from there.

Miscellaneous

Stuck on the Apple logo? Bootloop?

This is called a bootloop, it means that the device can no longer complete the booting process and thus reboots itself. Whether it's stuck on the Apple logo or the logo keeps flashing every 7-10 seconds (meaning that it repeatedly attempts to reboot but fails every time).

What would cause a bootloop? the answer is not the same for every device, for example, it could be a faulty/outdated/really broken tweak, corrupted system files, hardware issue and etc.

How to fix a bootloop? there's not much you can do, so you can try one of these two options:

Try Reiboot which has an option to force exit recovery mode (not guaranteed to work but worth the try).
Restore to the latest firmware with iTunes (after putting the device in DFU mode, connect it to iTunes and click on "Restore Device"). Note: your data will be lost when using this option.

Note: this does not work on every device and may not be 100% accurate. However, it's the best known method right now. There is no tool for watchOS

What is "bird"? Can I disable it?

"bird" is a process related to iCloud Drive. It's one of the system daemons responsible for the backing of Documents in iCloud. You can disable it if so you wish, but it is not recommended if you use iCloud on your device.

Hi! This tweak forwards your notifications to your PC (Mac and Linux only for now) or iOS device (tested on iOS 9-13 for the receiver part)

It works using SSH, so it can works locally for now (although I will add more features in the future for it to work via open ports and use other services like PushOver).

******** IMPORTANT INFORMATION***********

For MacOS you need a tool called "terminal-notifier". It's free and there are several tutorials on how to install it. Like this one

To enable ssh on a Mac, follow this tutorial

For Linux you need a tool called "notify-send". It comes preinstalled on several distros (most of Ubuntu flavors have it).

To enable ssh on Linux, install openssh-server

On iOS you only need to have ForwardNotifier installed on both devices!

Notifications can be disabled when device is unlocked.

You enable or disable this tweak by using the CC module (you will need a tweak to enable third party CC modules).

[TIP] Get Out of Infinite Respring Due To Incompatible Tweak (Checkra1n Edition)

One fateful day, I decided to download RespringProgress on my iPod 6 (iOS 12.6). What I didn't see was that it was updated for iOS 10.2. Not iOS 12.x. I had accidentally downloaded an incompatible tweak. This put me in an infinite respring. I couldn't access my tweaks, because my jailbreak was broken. Even the checkra1n application wouldn't open. Soon, with some hardcore internet searching, I realized that many of the solutions to this problem involve hard code and SSH. None of them seemed to work for me. All seemed lost. But then, I opened the Checkra1n application on my Macbook, and saw that there was an Options button. When pressed, I saw three checkboxes, one of which was Safe Mode! THANK YOU, CHECKRA1N! That was the easiest solution of my life. I checked off Safe Mode, and then jailbroke my iPod as usual. I was quickly able to delete the incompatible tweak, and re-jailbreak. Now, I know that this solution seemed blankly obvious, but I saw a lot of people on this Sub that were having trouble. Some of them completely gave up their Jailbreak, just because of that one tweak. I was going to factory reset as well, when Checkra1n came to the rescue. So, again, thank you so much, Checkra1n, for both giving me my jailbreak, and saving it as well.

TL;DR: Open the Options Tab in the Checkra1n application, and check off "Safe Mode." This should jailbreak your phone as usual, without the tweaks. You can still access Cydia. With this, you can save your phone from an incompatible tweak.

Click \"Options\"

Now you can turn on Safe Mode!

[help] Inspecting + Patching Swift apps. FLEX (Flipboard Explorer)? Flex3? Anything?

Does anyone know if FLEX can reliably inspect Swift objects and classes? Almost every modern app release is Swift, and FOR THE MOST PART seems like FLEX only shows some Swift classes, and most of the time the properties in each are nil.
Would love to be able to inspect and tweak Swift apps. I'm referring to the free FLEX, btw, BUT similar situation with John Coates' Flex3... trying to make a patch for a Swift app in Flex 3 is useless. Opening a class shows zero methods and properties inside. This would be so so so huge... any convenient tool for inspecting and modifying Swift apps.

[Tutorial] iPhone 5s 12.4.6 checkn1x 1.0.4 checkra1n 0.10.1 for Complete Beginners

Downloading checkn1x iso

Go to https://asineth.gq/checkn1x/
On the machine you wish to run checkn1x on press Win + R type cmd hit Enter
Type wmic os get osarchitecture hit Enter to see your OS Architecture, in my case it's 64-bit
Download ISO according to your architecture, in my case amd64 which is the same as x86_64 or 64-bit, for 32-bit use i686

Checking SHA256 Hash

When download finishes, highlight the downloaded file in Windows Explorer
Shift + Right Click on highlighted file and select Copy as Path
Open the cmd windows again
Type the drive letter of your download folder followed by a colon, in my case E:, hit Enter
Type CertUtil -hashfile hit Space then Ctrl + V hit Space then type SHA256 hit Enter, in my case it's CertUtil -hashfile "E:\Download\checkn1x-1.0.4-amd64.iso" SHA256
Copy the SHA256 hash by highlighting it in CMD and hit Ctrl + C to copy and go back to https://asineth.gq/checkn1x/
Press Ctrl + F to find then Ctrl + V to paste and hit Enter to search for the hash. If your browser highlight a matching hash it means your file is not corrupted and you can proceed to the next step
If your browser found no matches it means your download is corrupted, and you need to delete the iso file, redownload and repeat from step one
Close cmd window

Flashing with etcher

Download and install etcher from https://etcher.io/
Insert USB Drive
Select the checkn1x iso you downloaded, select your removable drive (this will format your drive, please select carefully), press Flash
When flashing is finished, unplug USB Flash Drive

Setting BIOS and booting checkn1x

Google "Your computer or Laptop model boot menu" and "Your computer or Laptop model disable secure boot BIOS", in my case there is Novo button next to the power button that I can press to go to Boot Menu and select BIOS Setting. On most laptops, you need to hit a certain key while booting to access Boot Menu
When secure boot is disabled in BIOS, insert USB reboot to boot menu, and select your USB drive Legacy (if there is any Legacy option)
If you cannot find your flash drive in Boot Menu, Google "Your computer or Laptop model USB Boot"
If you still cannot boot to checkn1x, Google "Your computer or Laptop model legacy boot BIOS"
If still having problems, Google "Your computer or Laptop model Linux install" pay attention only to the BIOS Settings part of the video or tutorial
You are now booted to checkn1x

Jailbreaking with checkra1n

Connect your iPhone
Use your keyboard to navigate to Start
Follow the on-screen instructions
When you are in the right before trigger (the real setup bug) screen wait for 60 seconds, unplug and plug quickly your iPhone 5s
When everything is finished your iPhone should be on the lock screen
After 1 minute checkra1n app will pop up
Use your keyboard to navigate to Done
Unplug your iPhone
Use your keyboard to navigate to Quit
A command line will pop on the bottom of your screen type shutdown and hit enter to shutdown checkn1x
Open the checkra1n app and install Cydia

If your WiFi won't connect, uninstall any VPN app. The jailbreak did something funny to App Store which requires the iPhone to connect to internet so that App Store can verify your VPN installation. Sadly your App Store cannot get WiFi because VPN app cannot be opened. This a never ending loop. After uninstalling VPN, your WiFi should connect, test it in Safari, then force close by swiping up checkra1n app on app switcher and reopen the app and download Cydia again.

https://github.com/checkra1n/BugTracker/issues/1169 Although I can get mine to work, maybe you can't. This is because right before trigger freeze is a known bug for Linux . The status is accepted on Github. You will have to wait for future releases. And don't attempt to report the same problem again just comment on existing report. The developer seems to have made and effort to close duplicate problems and referencing it to a single report so don't spam. If you are not stuck in right before trigger and on checkra1n screen, and there is no other recorded issues on Github, only then you can post an issue in Github.

This tutorial is created because many tutorials I found never check for sha256 which might cause trouble if your iso image is corrupted. Beginners might also have problem booting to USB drive if they have never booted to a Linux before. I assume this guide will help them troubleshoot their problems. I believe writing versions of software you used is also important for future readers which other tutorials are lacking. Also, I failed to jailbreak on 12.4.5 on live Ubuntu with checkra1n 0.9.8.2 and 0.10.1 which I suspect has something to do with the USB driver that is preinstalled with Ubuntu. Apparently checkn1x includes certain iPhone drivers that is required for jailbreak to their Linux build which other Linux builds might not have. Therefore, even though you have other Linux installation, it is recommended to run checkra1n from checkn1x.
