Why does Apple have crummy FaceTime cameras on their MacBooks? Posted: 12 May 2020 08:29 PM PDT I know we aren't taking nature photos and shooting cinematic shots with macs like we do on iPhones. The resolution being at 720p also might not be a problem if it atleast looks good in videocalls, but mostly it doesn't. I want to know the technical limitations. Are bandwidth or encoding a problem. Is it slow or process intensive to use a higher res or better camera. The thinness of the lid must also be playing the role. Most people don't use their webcams but right now in these situations we are. That aside atleast in their higher end 16 inch "pro" notebook they should have a decent camera. [link] [comments]

How to prepare a MacBook to sell it? Posted: 12 May 2020 12:24 PM PDT Do I have to do anything except formatting the drive in recovery mode? Like log out from my Apple account first? [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 May 2020 09:27 PM PDT Firstly, I'm going to Uni for CS, and I'm looking at the base 2020 MBP model to last for the next 4-5 years (maybe upgrade storage). Do you guys think that it will be able to handle daily programming for a couple years? If any CompSci majors that used a MBP can speak on their experience would be great. I also plan to get the education discount on the MBP and AppleCare. I saw on some old threads that people got $100-200 on rebates or iTunes card that they used towards their purchase or something like that. Does apple still do that? When do they do this and what sites track things like Apple sales? [link] [comments]
How long did it take for your MacBook to deliver amid the covid-19 outbreak? Posted: 12 May 2020 09:02 PM PDT I know it might be a dumb question but I think I'm not the only one wondering when their MacBooks are going to be delivered or if the expected delivery dates provided by Apple are accurate. I ordered mine on 05/09 and the deliver is expected to be between 05/27 and 06/03. Being human and honest, I'm pretty anxious and just hoping apple will process it quick! (I am fully aware of how lucky I am to be waiting for my MacBook whilst there's people working during this awful situation but this is something I'm curious about) So... anyone would be so kind to share their experience with the process, shipping and delivery? Did you have to wait for a long time? [link] [comments]
Laptop 13 backpack Fjallraven, how is it? Posted: 13 May 2020 12:46 AM PDT Hi guys, I am thinking about buying a backpack with the sleeve for the 13' macbook pro 2020. How is it? Can it protect the MacBook or do I need another sleeve-case just to be sure? Does water pass through? I am thinking of this one: https://www.fjallraven.com/us/en-us/bags-gear/kanken/kanken-bags/kanken-laptop-13 The last thing I'd want is to have the MBP broken by some water passing trough or a little hit ^^. Thanks for the attention [link] [comments]

Why shortcuts doesn`t work proberly in firefox Posted: 12 May 2020 11:19 PM PDT I have a macbook. I made a shortcut that "exit" the program I`m opening. but I don`t know why shortcuts work with all my apps and browsers except firefox. it`s "command J" to "exit full screen" but this short cut is used already in firefox for downloads so I changed "downloads" to "command K" but If I tried it it doesn`t work and if I pressed "command J" still it opends "downloads" p.s. I tried these shortcuts in chrome and safari and it worked perfectly. [link] [comments]
Can the latest Macbook Air support two external monitors with the 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports? Posted: 12 May 2020 04:34 PM PDT I have two HDMI monitors that I intend to connect to a Macbook Air using HDMI to Thunderbolt 3 adaptors in the two Thunderbolt 3 ports. Will I then have two external monitors? And will both monitors be useable, or will the two monitors only mirror each other? Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 May 2020 05:53 PM PDT Hi there -- I'm in the market for a new Mac as mine could do for an upgrade. I have an early 2015 MacBook Pro and was considering looking into the recently announced MacBook Pro line. I'm planning on doing a trade in and the can I've kicked down the road long enough has now appeared -- finding an external hard drive. I'm not looking for anything too large -- wouldn't need anything more than 500GB. Really just looking to keep a lot of programs (Photoshop, Premiere, Microsoft Office, documents/photos etc.) I understand that the newest MacBook changed up the ports, so would a USB-C to USB dongle work for these respective models? Thanks for your help and insight. [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 May 2020 06:15 AM PDT Would love some input on which MacBook I should buy. I'm generally buying for everyday use. I use chrome and frequently have multiple tabs/windows open at once. I'm not a designer by trade but I do plan on using Sketch semi-regularly. I also plan on trying to learn Xcode/swift. For what it's worth, I ultimately plan on getting the 14 inch pro (in hopefully 0.5-1.5 years) and give this computer to my significant other. She will only use it for web browsing and Microsoft office. Top Two Choices: MacBook Pro 13: base model upgraded to 16 gb ram MacBook Air: upgrade to i5 and 16 gb of ram Other Considerations: MacBook Pro 13: base model MacBook Pro 13: 10th gen model MacBook Air: base model MacBook Air: upgraded to 16 gb of ram [link] [comments]

Things to keep in mind switching from Windows to a MacBook? Posted: 12 May 2020 01:06 PM PDT I'm a lifelong Windows users but my job is sending me a MacBook to work off of. I have almost zero experience with the platform so just curious if there are still any major differences between the operating systems, or things I should check out to make work more efficient. I'm a heavy user of hot keys and I'm curious too if all of those are different on a Mac. [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 May 2020 02:21 PM PDT Hi, Two years ago I bought a high-end Windows laptop, with an Intel Core i7 8th Gen processor. I eventually maxxed it out by upgrading the RAM to 12GB. It's probably the most expensive piece of tech I've bought, but video editing wasn't that smooth and the enclosure isn't durable at all. Now the battery has died and needs to get replaced, but the part itself is leaning towards €100. So I'm honestly done. I switched to the Apple ecosystem with the new iPad and the SE 2020, so to make it complete I want a MacBook Pro. Searching for deals on used MacBooks on eBay and Marktplaats in The Netherlands is a nightmate. Most have staingate issues that aren't covered under warranty, and I will not use Listerine, because I always mess up. Also, some have worn out battery cycles. How do I pick a used MacBook that will serve me well for 5 years and can handle programs for content creation (Adobe, DaVinci Resolve)? What models are still powerful in 2020 to do the job? What issues do I have to look out for? What can I find used for €550 max? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Confused on which 16inch MBP to get. Pls help! Posted: 12 May 2020 02:15 PM PDT So I own a Mid 2012 MBP. The MBP has an i7 and I Upgraded the ram to 16gb and the HDD to a 1Tb SSD. I like to play games that are mainly FPS' and open world games. I edit videos with final cut on the regular. Nothing spectacular, mainly in 1080p for youtube, tiktok, instagram (social media mainly). I eventually would like to edit in 4k and would like to start my own business doing real estate videos. I'm thinking of getting the i7 processor with 16gb of Ram. Where I get hazzy is with the size of the SSD (cause I can just work off of an ssd/hdd). I would love to upgrade to 1tb and upgrade the GPU to the 5500 8gb. If you have advice i would really appreciate it. [link] [comments]

Used Apple MacBook Pro mid-2012 Posted: 12 May 2020 05:54 PM PDT I just purchased a used MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) from a pawn shop. They completely formatted it, but I wanted to know if there was anything else I can do to make sure that there is no malware in the system. There is a dent on the side of the bottom and the back has a "Property of LAUSD" decal on the top. Is there a way to fix this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 May 2020 05:53 PM PDT I have 2 questions 1. Can I play beamng drive (boot camp) on a MacBook Pro 13 2014 i7 at 30 FPS of more? Can I play racing games at 30 FPS? 2. Can I play the same games on MacBook Pro 13 2020? [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 May 2020 01:52 PM PDT Just got the iPad pro and the magic keyboard recently. They are amazing and convenient. Hence, I was thinking to transform my MacBook air into a "home" laptop. What is a good display monitor? I don't need the best one out there, just something average/above average for daily use. [link] [comments]
16" not charging over supposedly 100W HP G5 dock Posted: 12 May 2020 11:01 AM PDT Hi, I just bought a HP dock (5TW10AA) for my 2019 MacBook Pro 16" since it was one of the few I found that were close to (or in this case, above) the default of 96W PD. However when I plug it in the laptop is actually draining battery, and I'm only getting a reported power of 75W, and no charging. System info screenshot HP claims to support Apple and MacOS, and "Up to 100W via USB-C" in their data sheet, but this is clearly not working out of the box. Do any of you know if this is a fixable problem? Is there any way to debug the USB-PD (I'm new to MacOS so I'm not sure what's possible or not)? I'll be contacting HP support as well, as soon as I find their email address, but I thought you might have any tips. If not I'd have to return it pretty soon. [link] [comments]

Posted: 12 May 2020 04:57 PM PDT 📷 I am so confused i cannot get a definitive answer on this. So here are the specs on my current 2009 macbook pro. Processor- 2.53 Intel Core 2 Duo Memory- 2GB 10067 MHz DDR3 Graphics- NVIDIA GeForce 9400m 256 Mb. Oh yah and not a SSD Heres what i am looking at for a new computer. 2020, 1.4GHz Quad-Core Processor with Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz512GB StorageTouch Bar and Touch ID
I really really really NEED a faster computer. I would really want something like at-least something like 4x faster. I really want something that can do minimum gaming. I would absolutely love if it could do garys mod without crashing every 5 seconds and play Minecraft decently and maybe run a few more modern games on low settings like fallout 4 or something. That isn't as important though, my main focus on this laptop would be music production. I need it to be able to run protools efficiently with plugins. Now whats confusing about this to me is that it says quad core so does that mean its 4 1.4 ghz proccesors or 4 processors that add up to 1.4 ghz. Now what doesn't make sense to me is would that even be THAT much faster then my computer? it doesn't seem too much faster atleast from simply adding up the numbers. Now another question is would getting this computer be better A 2015 MBP 2.7ghz core i5 8gb 1867 MHz DDR3 intel Iris Graphics 6100 1536 MB So what computer would be a significantly better than the one i have now. This laptop is so slow right now i want to rip out my face. PLEASE HELP I can't Figure any of this out. Im 17 i feel like im a old lady about this now wtf. Should i just go all out and get the 16 inch or is it not worth the money? Honestly i dont care much about a bigger screen. I really am looking for a 1500 dollar macbook pro. [link] [comments]
2018 Macbook Pro with touchbar died... Posted: 12 May 2020 04:08 PM PDT I have a 2018 MacBook Pro with a touchbar and it was working perfectly fine until this morning when it stopped turning on and does not show any signs of life. I've literally kept it in perfect condition other than a scratch, so I definitely haven't damaged it. Thankfully I have applecare+ and Apple is letting me send it in for repair. Has anyone else experienced anything similar or found a solution to this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 May 2020 09:47 AM PDT We have an older MacBook Air A1369 early 2011 model that we got from a family friend. We have only sparingly used it. Today I powered it on and am able to log in. However we are unable to install any updates as it shows error message 'this MacBook is registered to someone else or was refunded / returned'. It displays my Apple user ID in App Store settings and system preferences. What is wrong here? [link] [comments] |
