How is your experience with a base model MacBook Pro/Air? (Share your experience!) Posted: 17 May 2020 11:08 PM PDT I wanted to know how people who bought the base model MacBook Pro are feeling about their decision. We're often pushed to buy the latest and greatest (16/32GB ram, 256GB or 512GB storage, i7, etc.), but the reality is that not everyone needs that power. We also justify it under future proofing, which is definitely true by buying a model that's a higher spec, but sometimes that justification is used to validate spending more. -- So... I wanted to know what you experience is with a base model MacBook Pro or Air! I was on the fence with buying a MacBook Pro $1800, but ended up getting the $1300 model and it's been totally fine for my needs. Though it would be more convenient to have 4 tb3 ports, I think I can't justify the extra convenience of plugging in my charger on the other side for $500. I am a PhD candidate and consistently have 10 tabs open (usually research), TextEdit, Microsoft Word, and Drive File Stream running. The base model 2020 has been great for my needs and this is from upgrading from a base model 2013 model in the past, which made it through undergrad and grad school (masters) totally fine. -- What do you use your MacBook Pro and how has the base model been for that? Need help deciding if i get my MacBook fixed or upgrade Posted: 17 May 2020 07:16 PM PDT Hi guys, i have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014). It has been great and i would not be considering upgrading if it weren't for the fact that 1. Needs a new battery 2. Big issue with 5 keys not working properly (z,x,c,v,CMD) 3. When diagnosed by Apple they said i need my logic board replaced. So, i am looking at about $500-$700 to get it repaired. I figure if i drop this i might as well upgrade, however, i don't want to be worse off. Here are specs for my current Mac: 2.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 251 GB Flash Storage Looking at the new 2020 MacBook Pro specs, i am a bit unsure. The 13" one is the most attractive to me due to price, but they start at 8gb RAM, 1.4ghz processor and 256gb memory. I mainly use the laptop for work, i often run Photoshop+Lightroom together and sometimes use Capture Pro + tethering for shoots. As well as occasionally run Illustrator or Indesign for off-projects. Would i be OK with 8gb considering it is a new Mac or do i need to consider the 16GB model if i am going to upgrade? Should i consider any 2019 models too? [link] [comments]
Keyboard type of the 2016 MacBook Air Posted: 17 May 2020 06:29 PM PDT I am currently rocking the 2016 MacBook Air and am researching a replacement keyboard, I want to get the closest keyboard type to my current computer and I need to know what type of keys the Mac uses. I have a hunch its tactile but I cant be sure. [link] [comments]

Any other way to make my late 2011 MBP faster? Posted: 17 May 2020 03:18 PM PDT Hello all - I have been using my trusty pal for almost nine years now, and I'm hoping to squeeze a little more life out of him before he bites the dust. Details:
He's been pretty sluggish lately - often he will 'freeze up' for a few seconds when I'm in the middle of typing or watching a video - and the input or video will catch up all of a sudden after a few seconds. I'm not quite sure what the limiting factor is. It's usable, but a bit annoying... Would a factory reset make a different? I could load an earlier OS. I'm open to any ideas. Also considering upgrading to a 2020 MBP, but I'd love to hold off another year! Thanks for any help. [link] [comments]
I want to get a refurbished Macbook Pro mid-2012 Posted: 17 May 2020 12:59 PM PDT Hey all, so for the longest time I've always wanted a MacBook Pro and I could never come to pay such big money but the local computer store near me has got a Mid-2012 13" up on their page I believe they are looking for less than 400Euros the specs are as follows 2.5ghz intel core i5 4GB 1600 mhz ddr 3 Intel hd graphics 4000 1536mb 500GB sata disk 485.21 available of 498.88gb I will be using the laptop for photo editing and some video editing. Is this laptop good for me? I've asked him for the battery count so I should have a reply soon enough. We haven't agreed on me purchasing yet but if I do it comes with the stores own 6months warranty. His store has very good reviews and friends of mine have used the store before and swear by it. Help me decide a iPad/Mac vs Surface book 3 for uni! Posted: 17 May 2020 10:36 PM PDT I have done one Semester of uni and am now looking to upgrade from my current MacBook. My main things here are going paperless for uni, light gaming such as Minecraft, consuming Netflix/browsing the internet/ reading news etc. I am an economics/Finance major so I do need to be able to run some computer based softwares such as MYOB amongst others. So basically I see two main options for myself. A) The new baseline MacBook Pro 13 inch and a new iPad Pro 12.9 inch with Apple Pencil B) The new surface book 3 (Id go with 15 inch here) and Surface Slim Pen (Pricier than the above but combines them- not sure if thats good or bad lol) THANKS [link] [comments]
Is my MacBook Pro Retina worth repairing? Posted: 17 May 2020 10:32 PM PDT I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) with 3.1 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7 processor; 8 GB 1867 MHz DDR with Intel Iris Graphics 6100 1536 MB. The MacBook's fan constantly runs high, the laptop itself is always decently hot to the touch, and the battery is on replace soon. I was already quoted by apple the battery replacement in total being $250-$300, I know the fan needs replacing as well so i'm guessing that would probably add another $100-$200 being Apple. If this is correct i'm looking at $350-$500(estimation) in repairs. In addition to the fan and the heat issue, my MacBook also at least 1-2 times a week will completely freeze up and I will have to force shutdown. I'm honestly guessing the the two places Apple suggested I use (Apple stores not open in my area so they are sending me to an authorized service provider) are going to quote be $500-$700. I bought the laptop for $2200 in 2014. I know absolutely nothing about computers or what the specs mean, but I feel as though my specs still hold up to the laptops I am seeing in 2020. But I have used my laptop CONSTANTLY since 2014, it is with me at almost all hours. I have more than half my storage space available (172 available out of 250) . I only use this laptop for E-mail, Pages, Google Drive, Google Chrome and I have Hearthstone & Minecraft installed as well. I really just want a laptop that can handle constant use and running those applications that will last a long time. I know probably over spent on this laptop since it's Apple... but has this laptop run it's course? Is 6 years a long time to last? I own nothing else Apple so I have no need to stick with the company I have just enjoyed my use with this laptop. [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 May 2020 06:24 PM PDT Will using the keyboard too much cause issues? Would it be better to use a serparate keyboard when possible? Or is it enough to just get a keyboard cover to prevent dust from entering between the keys? [link] [comments]

Battery problem after upgrading to Mojave Posted: 17 May 2020 04:46 PM PDT I upgraded to Mojave a couple weeks ago. I noticed that now when I am around 10% battery, the laptop just shuts off randomly. This only happened after I upgraded to Mojave 10.14.6 on my 13in MBP 2017 I used to be able to use all the battery even below 5% but now it just shuts off. The battery information says that it is normal. Help appreciated. [link] [comments]

Posted: 17 May 2020 01:58 PM PDT [TLDR, UPD] My MBP refused to boot even in safe mode, solution in comments Hey guys, I've got a problem with my MBP16 2019 Today I logged in and the screen turned black. The touch bar was working for some time, I tried rebooting it. Now if I open it, nothing happens, the screen and touch bar are black. If I hold the power button for 8 seconds it plays a "swoosh" sound. If I hold it again, the same sound is played. Does anyone know what to do? Can you guys do this on your MBP and tell me what happens on the screen with this sound? Thank you in advance [link] [comments]
13" Pro i7 32gb RAM 1TB <VS> 16" Pro i9 16GB RAM 1TB? Posted: 17 May 2020 05:41 PM PDT The place I live limits me to this budget and these two macbook pros are the best I can get(both specced devices come to a almost identical price): - 13" 2020 2.3ghz i7 10th gen 32GB DDR4 RAM 1TB SSD - 16" 2019 2.3ghz i9 9th gen 16GB DDR4 RAM 1TB SSD I am a graphic designer and I am 99% in photoshop and illustrator. I would buy the 16" model in a heartbeat if I knew 16GB RAM will be enough. I do work rarely on 2-3GB .PSB(large photoshop files) and if I know the 16GB pro could handle them that would be great. 13" model screen does not bother me as 70% of the time it will be hooked to a nice large monitor. It will be my first MAC device and its very important to be the right one as I am planning to use it as my work and only device for the next 5 years. With that in mind I am not sure what specs are more important for a MAC. I just know as a graphic designer my apps don't need a great GPU. [link] [comments]

MacBook Air or MacBook Pro (both the 13 inch model and 2020 version). Also would it be beneficial to me (if going with the MacBook Air) to get the intel i5 instead?? *i really want to keep it below $2,000 [link] [comments]

Posted: 17 May 2020 08:37 AM PDT I moved back to the states 5 years ago from HK, and when someone logs in from another device, or when I make an app purchase, I get email confirmations on my MacBook in Chinese. In system preferences it is set to English and I am wondering how I can change this, or if the product I bought was actually regional. The main annoyance is that it sets my appointments to HK time, which is ineffective in informing me of meetings. Please advise! [link] [comments]
