    Tomorrow I'll receive my first MacBook, the 2020 Air to be specific. This will also be my first time using macOS after being a Windows user for 15+ years.

    I've already watched some ''Tips and tricks'' videos on YouTube but I was wondering if you guys have some tips I should definitely know.

    Rolling back MacOS Catalina 10.15.4

    Hey everyone,

    My mac automatically upgraded to 10.15.4 last night & killed all of my audio VSTs that had been previously working fine, they now repeatedly throw "[plugin].vst3" cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified." I can't use the regular control-click open workaround because I'm now launching these plugins, my DAW (Cubase) is.

    I rolled back my Mac using Time Machine to 10.15.3 but I'm still getting these same errors - what the hell?

    Does anyone know if rolling back with Time Machine isn't actually entirely effectual or if I can do something (literally anything) that'll help me continue using these programs in 10.15.4?

    Why is so much storage being taken up by System? I don't have Time Machine or anything else like that set up.

    Guest account login bug?

    Hey uhmm, i sit just me or is there any bugs with MacOS Catalina's Guest Account feature. I share my Macbook Pro 13" 2018 (4 Thunderbolts) with my sister and she uses the Guest Account. Sometimes when she borrows my Macbook, she would ask me to log her in since the Guest Account would be missing from the Login screen. Is/are there any bugs with the Guest Account login I may not be aware of? Also, are any of you guys experiencing this?

    TL;DR - I share a Macbook with some1, sometimes Guest Account login is missing from the Login Screen, are any of you guys experiencing this? Is this a new bug?

    Battery health management utility?

    does anybody know a Mac utility to leave the Mac connected to power without charging the battery to avoid costing cycles or something like the new utility in the catalina 10.15.5 beta? I was thinking and trying to get the beta just for that, but it's not a public beta. any tips?

    USB-C external storage not being detected in Catalina

    I've got a very peculiar issue that has been plaguing me all day. First some info about what I'm working with:

    15" 2019 Macbook Pro, 2.4 GHz 8-core i9 with 32GB RAM. Catalina 10.15.4 (latest update) installed.

    No external storage is being detected when I plug it in any of the 4 USB-C ports. Other peripherals work fine (external monitor, iPhone, charger, etc) on these ports. But I've tried multiple flash drives and SSDs to no avail. I am certain that the drives are fine, because other macs detect them with ease. They are formatted correctly. They do not show up in Disk Utility or Finder, but they DO show in System Report->USB. For some reason, this Macbook simply does not want to mount them and it just started happening today, seemingly out of nowhere. SMC reset and NVRAM reset have been done multiple times to no avail.

    One odd thing I notice - when I first plug in a USB drive, I notice a "kernel_task" start in Activity Monitor which uses up to 300% CPU at some points and causes the fans to run at about 50%. This will continue to run even if I unplug the USB drive, and won't stop until I reboot without a USB drive plugged in.

    I've searched google deep and wide for an answer... Most people seem to be able to fix it with a SMC and/or NVRAM reset. Not in my case. Any ideas out there?

    Application association problem

    I downloaded a .bundle file (a plugin for Finale). In Catalina it wouldn't open and in trying to get it to work, I associated the .bundle file type with Finder. How do I get rid of this association?

    i seem to have broken my macbook i tried to do a system restore so i could start again with a clean HD im in the Disk Utilies and it looks completely messed up every time i try and install Sierra it returns an error at the end that it could be intalled can anyone help

    I want to turn/download a website to a mac app and turn off the network access to so it. These are websites that I use very frequently and the functionality is fully client-side javascript and does not require any server interaction. But I am doubtful if these websites might be interacting with the server to push my data that I enter in the textboxes for analysis, marketing etc. I just don't want them the website to connect to the network. Any help?

    My IT department installed McAfee Endpoint Security on my Mac and it is completely ruining my experience.

    My computer was purchased for me, so I can't whine about that, and I set it up and managed software personally. All was working beautifully, until IT came and ran a few scripts. Now my Mac is "remotely managed" and McAfee Endpoint Security is installed. About every 5-10 minutes my fans are running 100% and "McAfeeATP" process is running at >100% CPU usage. Apps and terminal commands hang, usually with a McAffee process running with top priority. I actually decided to wipe my computer and do a complete reinstall hoping to just remove McAfee (which apparently is deep down in the system and cannot really be "uninstalled") only to find out what "remotely managed" really means. All the software was just automatically reinstalled on my fresh Mac and I'm back to square one. What's frustrating is I have zero options enabled for the McAfee software. Its always on and I can't turn it off. If I force quit it just comes back. Why do IT departments think software like McAffee is so useful? Any small system protection it is providing is shadowed by the immense pressure and resource usage on the system. It must slow down the overall productivity and efficiency of every user... If anyone has any tips or system settings for how to manage or sequester this app I would be very grateful.

    Cant delete user account

    Just bought a used MBP13 2019 2.4ghz, it had a default admin user set up with no password. I set up a new user, made it admin and went to delete the old account. I press the minus button on it, it prompts for password and then...nothing. How can I get rid of that account?

    Notification alert sounds interrupting music

    After the most recent update, I've noticed whenever I'm listening to music (Spotify, if that matters) and a notification comes in, it'll drop the music volume down to basically nothing for the notification ding before returning the volume back to normal. This also happens with any other system alert sounds. I poked around in the notification settings and sound settings in system preferences but couldn't find any way of turning that behavior off. Anyone know of any fixes short of just turning all notification sounds off?

    Need help choosing a adblocker

    Hey guys just bought a new iPad Pro and was going to install a adblocker for it. Did some research on good ones and found out some of them can read your personal information. Just wondering can anyone recommend a good yet safe adblocker they have been using? Also I've heard good reviews for wipr, would that one be recommended? Thanks!

    LG Ultrafine 5K Monitor won't turn on/wake up

    I have:

    MacOS Catalina 10.15.4
    MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019)
    2 Ultrafine 5K displays. They were working fine until recently one of them won't turn on. I have tried shutting down the mac and plugging everything in and out and the one display won't turn on.

    Any thoughts and help on this would be great!

    How to customize Show Floating Thumbnail time on screenshot

    Late 2014 Mac mini missing local dictionary files

    So this is the weirdest bug, but my Mac mini is missing local dictionary files. And the Dictionary app neither offers to download them, nor or are they in preferences.

    I thought my Catalina install might just be borked so I clean installed a fresh copy to a different APFS container and booted from it, and that one had the same issue.

    Is this a server side bug going on currently or is my Mac mini somehow cursed or something? I don't use lookup often so it's not a huge deal but it was useful for Dutch words :/

    Hi guys and gals!
    So I today was blessed with an upgrade from work. Got myself a nice 2k19 MacBook Pro 15". Have spent a few hours setting everything up, beacuse I didn't transfer apps with migration assistant. (By the way, nice way of making sure wich apps you actually use.)

    Problem is, for whatever reason my keychain isn't updating. It took a few passwords, but hasn't taken all of them (150+ in total). Have tried turning keychain on and off in settings (without removing though) and logging in and out of iCloud on the machine. Any ideas as to why this is happening? Thanks in advance!

    Catalina TV App

    Has anyone had the issue where specific shows won't play in the new TV app? X-Files when I click on the episode the window pops up and immediately goes away. The Office is the same way (both are purchased through itunes). Haven't checked everything but most everything else is playing fine. And this stuff plays fine on the Apple TV's and a windows computer running itunes.

    Will Time Machine continue to back up my Hard Drive to USB even if I close my MBP (with the USB still plugged in of course)? Also does a backup become interrupted if my laptop dies, requiring me to start it over from the beginning?
