Is it possible to scan a face in TrueDepth via a web app? Posted: 17 Apr 2020 07:11 AM PDT Hi - I am trying to develop a somewhat lightweight authentication for a web page of mine and I want to use the TrueDepth camera on my iPhone. However I don't feel the need to develop a full app for this one use case. In an ideal scenario, I could navigate to the page on my phone, the iPhone TrueDepth camera could quickly scan my face and store a model of it on the backend, and it would match up that model against what is stored in the database. It's basically my own version of FaceID using the TrueDepth camera. Is there any way to utilize the iPhone TrueDepth camera via a web app, or does it absolutely have to be used in a full native app? Looking for a private chatroulette-like app open to your friends only Posted: 17 Apr 2020 07:56 AM PDT Hi guys, With the current lockdown, I've been using massively group video-calls and attending to "virtual party" . And there are many app out there (Zoom, HouseParty, Whatsapp, Messenger, ...) perfectly doing the job. However, with all these apps, it is only one big chatroom for everyone. When you are more than 4-5 people in a call, it's quite hard (let say impossible) to have a conversation with everyone. So I was hoping you would know an app or service that would allow doing a kind of private chatroulette. Let say, everyone is in the same chatroom but you are only able to talk to one or two other people at the same time. And every few minutes or when someone decide it, you would speak to some else. Basically, Chatroulette but limited to your friends or a private group (I don't really want to see random dudes' dicks). Thanks for the help ! [link] [comments]

My main concerns with iOS - Do they have a solution? Posted: 17 Apr 2020 05:23 AM PDT I've been an Android user since the iPhone 6. 3 times I tried to go back to iOS but I couldn't, the last time being with the iPhone 11. I love the iPhone 11 Pro camera though, and maybe I'll consider buying the 12 Pro this year. Here are my main concerns with iOS: -There's no comma on the first screen of the keyboard. Not even when using GBoard and I can't find on the appstore any keyboard that has a comma and a dot (both) on the first screen like on android. -There's no double tap and slide/drag zoom with one finger (only Google Maps for iOS has this) This zoom is very convenient when one handed use because you can zoom in with just one hand, and this zoom is precise because you can zoom in in the exact spot where you want. (example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8Z91ND1kl4 ) -Bad file management, even with the last Apple app Files, I feel that I don't have the freedom like I was on Android, Mac or PC -Can't accept an alarm. If there's an everyday alarm about to sound but you already woke up and you wan't to accept the alarm to not sound that day, but that it's still enabled for the next days, you can't. You are just able to turn off the alarm, and then you have to turn it on again for the next day. [link] [comments]
Security hole / vulnerability in iOS files app / Microsoft Office apps? Posted: 16 Apr 2020 09:33 PM PDT Under iOS Settings > Security > Files and Folder, I do **not** have any Microsoft apps listed. The same goes for my Photos privacy settings. However, in Outlook, I can attach a photo or file from my iCloud files. Same with most Microsoft apps on iOS. Some MS apps ask for permission and if I deny permission to access photos, that app, will in fact, not be able to access photos. But all MS apps can access my iCloud Drive. This is really bothersome as I am logged into OneDrive, Outlook, Office, etc. using my work account. And the fact is I can access photos and iCloud files without granting the app permission - feels to me like a huge security hole. Interesting tidbit, if I go to the Files app and click edit to unselect iCloud Drive, the MS apps or OneDrive no longer has access to my iCloud Drive/files. It seems that whatever cloud drive services are turned on in Files (e.g. iCloud Drive, Dropbox, etc.) will also be available to access in all Microsoft apps. When I turn them off in Files, they no longer become accessible. Thoughts from anyone? I'm really concerned that MS apps are able to access files and photos that normally needs OS level permission approval from the user. If Microsoft apps can do this, who's to say that a malicious app cannot also access files and photos the same way (without explicit OS-level user permission granted) and be able to copy/steal user files from iCloud and photos??? This is very concerning to me. edited to add: I'm on iOS 13.4 [link] [comments]
Concerened with Face ID feature. Buying first iOS phone(used) Posted: 17 Apr 2020 12:35 AM PDT Hi, so I'm trying to buy used iPhone XS Max in very good condition as I was an android user for a long time and still will be but going iOS for now. I've seen that there are ones that has issues with Face ID feature usually stopped working after updating their iOS versions. I'm not really a fan of that as I'd prefer a fingerprint unlock(which they don't have anymore) so I'll just use the phone with passcode unlock. I'm concerned that if I'll be buying a phone with Face ID that has the latest iOS version will end up having issues for the next iOS updates. The market price of the phones that has issues with Face ID are like $50-$100 cheaper and in any case I can just buy one since I won't use the feature at all. But I want a phone that has no issues even if I'm not gonna need it and thinking that issue might affect something more in the future. I've searched google that it can be fixed after several updates? Or needs to replace the hardware cable part of it or whatsoever. Do I have to worry about future iOS updates if I'm going to buy a phone that has all feature/functions working with the latest iOS version as of yet? Thank you in advance for helping. Thanks! iPhone Reset and iCloud photos Posted: 16 Apr 2020 02:47 PM PDT Fairly new to iOS, and my question is, will my photos, that are all saved to my iCloud account as well as my iPhone, be deleted? I have a Mac as well, rich uses the same Apple ID as my iPhone. Will my Apple ID information be deleted by restoring my iPhone? [link] [comments]
iOS 13.4.1 control center change Posted: 16 Apr 2020 02:44 PM PDT Did anyone else notice that in 13.4.1 you can no longer close control center by tapping between buttons? I guess I may have been one of very few people using that feature but now it only works by tapping around the edge (or swiping). I assume they made the change to get rid of accidental touches but it seems counterintuitive considering their design language. [link] [comments]
