    It bugs me to no end that Launchpad's search feature is just a dumb text filter with no advanced logic or "fuzziness" to it like Spotlight:

    • Launchpad search returns are strictly alphabetical, while Spotlight factors in usage. If I search for "ca," the first result in Launchpad is Calculator (first alphabetically), while the first result in Spotlight is Calendar (the app I actually use the most)
    • Launchpad doesn't account for spelling mistakes. If I search for "caldner," Launchpad returns nothing, while Spotlight is smart enough to return Calendar
    • Similarly, Launchpad doesn't account for alternative terms or metadata. Searching for "iCal" or "iTunes" in Launchpad returns nothing, while Spotlight returns Calendar and Music
    • Launchpad seems to index result names from left to right. I have an app called Paprika Recipe Manager 3. If I search for "paprika," it's a match; if I search for "recipe," it's a match; but if I search for "recipe manager" (or even just "recipe " with a space after it), nothing. Spotlight returns the matching app in all three cases
    • Similarly, Launchpad search terms have to be either whole words or start from the beginning of a word. I have apps called Letterpress and Mactracker, but if I search for "press" or "tracker" I get no results
    • Launchpad folders are excluded from search (not the contents of the folders, but the folders themselves). If I search for the name of a folder, like "Browsers," no results are returned

    I could go on, but you get the idea. It's very frustrating to have two different search features behave totally differently, and return different sets of results for the same terms. Launchpad should use the exact same fuzzy search algorithms as Spotlight, but just limited only to apps.

    Today I made mostly stuff you can't really see in this picture, as I was working on the buttons (they have some problems I haven't entirely figured out yet). I also added the Menuitem highlight from Mavericks (you can see it in the top right corner) . Sadly I haven't been able to figure out how to make the menu bar look like in mavericks yet, but hopefully tomorrow, i'll have it done. Have a nice day.

    How do I get rid of all of these random files from popping up when I search? YES, I have hidden files turned off. Any ideas?

    Question about disabling SIP.

    Basically I want to know if what I did was safe.

    Backstory: I was cleaning up my Mac and deleted the Steam application. After I went in to finder and searched for "steam" and some SteamInput.kext files came up located in the StagedExtensions folder. It wouldn't let me delete them, and after trying some terminal commands on them it just said I didn't have permission or something along those lines, so I read about disabling SIP to be able to delete those kinds of files.

    First I disconnected from my WIFI. Then I turned off my computer and restarted it holding command-R to go in to the recovery mode. Opened terminal and typed the command to disable SIP and restarted my computer. Once I logged in I found the 2 steam related .kext files and deleted them no problem. Right after this I turned off the computer and then restarted in recovery mode and enabled SIP again.

    Just want to know if at any point in that process something bad could have happened.

    Will Recovery Mode erase my Mac?

    I saw some articles earlier on this sub and other forums/blog posts.

    It said if you want your data back from recovery mode that you need to have Time Machine Backup but, I have that disabled. Do I need to make a backup or am I fine to go into recovery mode?

    If you're wondering why it is because I need to run some terminal commands that can only be run from recovery mode!

    MacBook Pro Speed Issues

    Hello, I bought a mid 2012 13 inch MacBook Pro off eBay for 190 last year, but I only have a speed problem. It takes a while for it to open apps, such as safari, or even settings, and when it load up, it freezes when I click/type anything. Would changing it to an SSD help make it run quicker? It currently has a 500GB Hard drive with 4GB of RAM. Thank You!

    Yes, I know I can use tabs, but there are times where I will need to open a new Chrome window. Unfortunately, I have bad memory and I always forget that I have a second Chrome window opened. In Windows 10, the taskbar will show you if you have two Chrome windows opened.

    I am having trouble downloading the the OS in Windows.think because of the source. Does anyone know where I can download a copy of high serria using a PC to put on drive ? have A 2018 Macbooks pro with hard drive erased.

    updated to the Catalina wine mixer. That was a mistake. I cant connect to server in MaC RESTORE internet way.

    All i have is a windows PC to work wth.

    Mac OS Security. Is there a way to install a game, but still be safe from malware?

    I would like to install a fairly popular game on Mac OS, but I don't trust it. Is there a way to set up a second user, or create a separate startup disk that would be safe? Can apps somehow embed themselves in the OS even if, for example, and jump from partition to another?

    Catalina v10.15.4 and Photoshop v21.1.1 issue with saving JPG

    When I attempt to save a file for web for these steps:

    File >> Export >> Save for web >> JPEG

    The saved file does not have a file extension. I am still able to see a preview of the file, it is just not named <filename>,jpg, rather just <filename>. Anyone know what may have changed in Catalina and/or Photoshop that changes this?

    Creating Call Back URL for files stored on macbook?

    Hi Guys,

    Is there a way to create call-back url for files stored locally on my macbook ?

    Callback URLs help link various apps like mindnode, ulysses, omnifocus, dynalist etc. It would be really helpful if I was able to add the url of some of the files on my laptop, to these apps.

    Music app using a lot of energy on macOS 10.15.4

    Looks like the music app uses too much energy after updating. The 12 hr power is 42.02 which is much higher than anything on my computer. I'm not running it in the fullscreen mode. I usually use the regular or mini player.

    [Help?] Logi MX Keys lagging with most of the keystrokes

    Hi.

    I'm struggling with my Logi MX Keys keyboard and MX Masters Mouse. While the mouse is superb for me, I've come across several issues with my MX Keys and would like to know if anyone of you had or has the same issues and maybe already resolved them:

    • The keystrokes of the MX Keyboard lag and skip a few keys.

    Now I' don't consider myself as a super super fast typer but when I do type fast, the keyboard skips several keys especially when using the right Shift key MX or often mixes up the keys.

    For example: I type AS I SAID and it either skips one letter and makes SAD out of it or mixes the letters and write SIAD.

    I'm connected via the dongle and tested it also via Bluetooth. Same result. Windows works flawlessly. Does anyone know what's going on and if there's anything I can do to fix this?

    Mail is taking a lot of time to open while fseventsd in on the background at almost 100%

    Hey!

    I have issues with Mail app on Mojave. I have installed the last version 10.15.4, but it has been happening to me on previous versions of mojave too. The issue is happening in a quite new MBP 2019.

    Mail app takes one solid minute —or more— to open. Usually it takes a second, but sometimes it takes a lot and it's not opening while the fseventsd daemon in on the background almost at 100%.

    I've been trying a couple of things to fix it, like clean with onxy, especially the mail index or delete the ~/Library/Mail/V7/MailData folder.

    Nothing works until I delete que whole ~/Library/Mail folder and I download all the mail again.

    Is anyone experiencing this issue too? I really think that the issue is linked to the fseventsd daemon, but I really don't know how to fix.
