MacBook Pro 16" shuts off automatically? Posted: 25 Apr 2020 06:10 PM PDT This happened more than three times in the last two days. I left my laptop in "Sleep", and by the time I came back, it sits there, shut off. All the unsaved work - GONE. Programs left open before leaving:
Is this normal? And possible solution? [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Apr 2020 11:01 PM PDT First I'll say I'm not very knowledgeable about hardware. But, will running a social media bot from my macbook every night cause any permanent damage to the computer? Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Apr 2020 10:15 PM PDT I know that Windows will be slow on my MBP, but I just got a new one with 2.4ghz i9, 32gb RAM, and 1tb ssd. Why is it laggy. I even gave BootCamp 175gb when I set that up? Anything I can do to make everything a little less laggy? [link] [comments]
Anyone experienced with MacBook hacks/mods? Wondering if I can parts swap my old MacBook Posted: 25 Apr 2020 05:45 PM PDT I have a MacBook 4,1 with 6GB of ram running Lion, the latest Mac OS it can handle. Mainly held back by its x3100 onboard graphics which support was dropped for later OSes. But I hear there's Nvidia driver support for some of the later ones, so I'm thinking if the logic board can be replaced with a early 2009 logic board with 9400m in it. Both my model and the 2009 model use the same unibody shell so hopefully it's just a matter of the board still fitting inside, perhaps? [link] [comments]
Question regarding DV to FireWire cable Posted: 25 Apr 2020 09:17 PM PDT Hello, I have a MacBook Air late 2010 model. I believe it has a FireWire 800 port? I am trying to connect my old MiniDV camcorder to my MacBook to transfer the tape. I'm trying to understand what cables and adapters I need. I ordered a FireWire to DV cable. Will that be enough or do I need another adapter? I greatly appreciate your help. [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Apr 2020 02:23 PM PDT Does it make sense to configure it that way? Or is the extra ram on the i3 useless? I don't edit video..don't game, though I might if a great game comes out (not 1st person shooter). I mostly surf and use video conferencing and watch videos. I'd prefer a cooler temp and longer battery...and for it to never freeze on me. I have a mid 2011 air still 1.7 i5, 4 gb. It's been good for a long time but lately the screen is gone crazy and very lately things are freezing all the time on me. [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Apr 2020 04:13 PM PDT Hi everyone! Ok, so I just upgraded my 2013 MBA to the 2020 MBA i5 version. I'm not going for a deep insightful review here since you'll find much better worded articles online. My main feedback is that it's a better machine in every way possible, as a new computer should outperform a 7 year old one. The sound is remarkable and the screen is amazing. Beyond happy with these two features. HOWEVER, it gets beyond hot. It hasn't dipped below 87F since I opened it a few hours ago. It's hot in LA today, but wow. I can barely keep it on my lap as I'm working from the couch... I'm seriously considering going for a MBP just for the heat sink. Do you guys have the same issue or I'm dealing with a defective model? What should my move be? [link] [comments]

I'm trying to choose between 13" and 15" 2013-2015 MBP but almost for same price Posted: 25 Apr 2020 06:54 PM PDT I've decided to replace 8-year-old 13-inch MacBook Air that everything I loved about, except two thing I only hated: unable to upgrade from 4GB RAM and non-IPS for tilt angle. I don't mind carrying bigger size and heavyweight of MacBook Pro. I don't need them more powerful. I already have iMac I only use to handle everything. 2018 MacBook Air Retina isn't worth spending on. I just found 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro with almost similar specs, I really don't care about how decent the processor should be. Both used for almost same price on eBay., like $50, $80, $110 difference for similar condition. I feel like I should go with 15-inch. I'm worried about how often I close and open screen and even potential delamination I've heard about. I just like carrying the laptop around in my home or outside/travel. But I also like bigger screen. I even heard 15-inch's battery lasts longer than 13-inch. Is it good I should choose 15-inch over 13-inch? Do you have experiences and travels with 13-inch or 15-inch? How to post images in HEIC format in reddit posts? Posted: 25 Apr 2020 06:35 PM PDT Hello. I am trying and have tried in the past to include images in my reddit posts from my MacBook, but it won't let me. These photos are in HEIC format. I noticed that the photos I take with my iPhone 11 are saved in HEIC format. Does anyone know how I can post these images? I have tried searching for answers but couldn't find them anywhere... Black MacBook 5,2 Running Mojave Posted: 25 Apr 2020 05:57 PM PDT Hello all, I thought I'd outline my isolation project incase anyone wanted to tackle the same thing I had done. The title says it all, it is a 2.13GHz MacBook 5,2 in a Black Case, running Mojave. Let me tell you the backstory before I get to the build outline. For a long time, I have always loved the A1181 MacBooks in Black, and I had always wanted one even if I couldn't use it much. After we got the shelter in place in my state, I decided to spend $50 on an almost mint Black 2008 MacBook 4,1. It came in the mail the following week and it looked perfect (except for a bad OEM battery). I immediately changed out the spinning drive for a 256GB SSD, and dropped 4GB of DDR2 memory into it, as well as loading a fresh copy of Mac OS X Lion. The computer worked great and was pretty fast, but the drawbacks were that it was very loud under light load and had software compatibility issues with todays software. I did a little digging and found that is indeed possible to swap out a 5,2 Logic Board into the 4,1, which is supported all the way up to El Capitan. I went on eBay and found a pristine 5,2 for $60, and bought a new black battery for the 4,1. The 5,2 comes in the mail and I test it, runs perfect besides the spinning drive. I dig right into the 5,2 and successfully remove the logic board and super drive. I then repeat the same procedure on the 4,1 (but much more carefully to try not to damage the case, in which I failed by chipping the keyboard palm rest since the machine was never opened before, very tight). The amount of dust in the 4,1 was unbelievable, which explains the loud fan noise under no to light load. I cleaned out the dust from the 4,1, and dropped in the 5,2 logic board, applying new thermal paste as well. Testing the unit showed that it started right up, which was expected since both models have most of the same connections since they're both A1181 models. Although it went smoothly for me, there are a couple of things to consider when doing this build.
All done and over with, I wouldn't change a thing except for upgrading to 6GB of Ram. Otherwise, it runs great as a secondary hobby computer. It is currently running Mojave using DosDude1's Mojave Patcher with mostly no issue (No camera or mic, no big deal). I didn't take any photos during the transplant as I was trying not to loose screws from the machine, but I did take a picture of the 5,2 before I fully disassembled for reference and I have a pic of the "About my Mac" on the Black MacBook after the mod running Mojave (attached). Hopefully you guys found this useful, as it was a fun project for me and a pleasure to bring the information to you. Cheers, [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Apr 2020 04:15 PM PDT Hi all, I've got a Macbook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) with 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 and Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB. I'm just about to jump on a VFX heavy music video project and we have some budget for me to get an eGPU to speed up my workflow. Mainly working on After Effects but with all the effects, a ram preview is taking about an hour for 15 seconds worth of footage. I was wondering if there's any great eGPUs out there for the 2015 Macbook Pro that I could look into that will speed up ram previews and rendering times. Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
MacBook Pro 16inch, too big to commute with? Posted: 25 Apr 2020 04:05 PM PDT I'm trying to decide between buying the 16 inch MacBook Pro or waiting for the 13/14 inch model next month. This would be my 'desktop' computer plugged into external displays at the office where I do a PhD with lots of computer modelling - so the power of the 16 would be really appreciated. But I will be carrying it into university each day and taking it along to a few meetings throughout the week and so wonder whether it might be a bit too big. Would appreciate hearing people's thoughts about this! Thanks [link] [comments]
MacBook Air or wait for new Pro? Posted: 25 Apr 2020 04:00 PM PDT Hi guys what do you think should I get MacBook Air or wait for the new pro mode? I work on my computer and do some general photo and video editing (nothing crazy) [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Apr 2020 03:57 PM PDT I just brought my old but great 2008 MacBook. It's an early 2008 model, currently with 2.5 GB or RAM (i could upgrade to 4gb) This is going to go to my 9 year old model. I DON'T want to spend much money on it. It's currently on lion 10.7.5. Technically i can't upgrade it anymore. Has anyone tried to upgrade anyways? What MacOS you think it would work at an acceptable level? I am trying to get her to a MacOS version that has iMessage and FaceTime. Thanks [link] [comments]
Lack of flash storage in Macbook Pro Posted: 25 Apr 2020 09:26 AM PDT Hi Everyone! I have a Macbook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014) and OS X Yosemite. Unfortunately, I can't upgrade my OS X because I have no more storage. I plan on buying a new Macbook pro later this year in the Fall. Also, to be honest... my macbook pro works perfectly fine. In the meantime, is there any external flash storage I can buy that is compatible with my macbook? I've done my research and the Samsung SSD looks interesting but I'm confused if it can work as flash storage. Anyway, would love to know solutions that involve me buying flash storage externally or internally from Apple. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Thunderbolt help: iMac as external display Posted: 25 Apr 2020 02:27 PM PDT Trying to use my old 2013 27" (slow AF) iMac as and external display for my new 2020 MacBook Air. I ordered a cord off Amazon that I thought would work after reading review but unfortunately no luck. Any suggestions for unofficial cords/adapters to use aside from Apple's dongle and Thunderbolt 2 cord mixture (extremely expensive method). Trying to not break the bank on what I thought would be a fairly easy task. [link] [comments]
MacBook Pro clicking/ticking noises from palm rests/aluminium body Posted: 25 Apr 2020 06:48 AM PDT Hi, my 2016 MacBook Pro non Touch Bar seems to be making random clicking noises from the unibody either when my hand leans on the palm rests or when it is picked up. It's not a sound that can be identified as coming from one specific area. This isn't a major issue but it has gotten worse as of recent and is rather annoying. I've tried tightening the screws on the backplate, however that hasn't fixed the issue. Does anyone else have a problem like this? Is it just something that MacBooks with aluminium unibodies do? Fullscreen video not responsive to mouse clicks Posted: 25 Apr 2020 08:11 AM PDT I have a MacBook Pro 2016 TB and using safari as a browser. Sometimes when I have the tab open for a longer time and I put laptop to sleep (closing the lid), the video in fullscreen does not recognise the mouse cursor when trying to watch it again. I mean, I can see the cursor but I cannot click the "skip" button or pause, fast forward and not even close the full window mode. The keyboard works (pause with space, or cancel full screen mode with esc) normally though. This is not the issue of only YouTube but technically any other video player online. The only thing that helps is to reload the page. Does anyone have a similar issue or know how to solve this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Apr 2020 07:56 AM PDT So I'm wanting a Mac for video editing and the last 2 pieces of info I need are first .. If the graphic processor is ok on 14 or worth the extra £100 for 15 2014 - NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M* 2015 - AMD Radeon R9 M370X https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GeForce-GT-750M-vs-AMD-R9-M370X/m7928vsm30774 Also The "Mid-2015" models can support a larger external display -- up to 5120x2160 at 60 Hz -- via Thunderbolt 2. Does this mean I can't stream the 2014 on a big screen to see details easier when editing videos [link] [comments]
MBA or MBP (wanting to get into the apple ecosystem more) Posted: 25 Apr 2020 01:53 PM PDT Hello, I am new here so apologies if this has been asked a million times before and sorry if this doesn't belong here... I have an ipad pro which I use as my main computing device for Uni/ work and everything else which I predominantly connect to an external monitor. Because there are limitations with IpadOS, I am in the market for a Macbook and have been looking at the new 2020 macbook air, and thought about upgrading the specs to an i5 and 16gb ram just to try and beef it out a bit so that my purchase lasts as long as possible given how expensive these machines are. I just wanted to get some opinions from people who know more about Apple than me, so I was wondering if those specs were worth upgrading to, or if a base model macbook pro should be something to consider instead (as I think a refresh may be released this year?) I am by no means tech savvy so want to make the best computer/spec decision so it will last at least 4 years, I also get student discount on the store which is why I am considering upgrading specs. TLDR; should I upgrade specs of 2020 macbook air or buy a base model macbook pro to get best bang for buck/ longevity of device. [link] [comments]
11” iPad Pro 2018 vs. New MacBook Air 13.3” for college Posted: 25 Apr 2020 01:40 PM PDT Hey guys. So basically I need a new device, mainly for educational purposes and regular daily use, and I was wondering which of these devices you guys think would be better for a college student. I'll be majoring in nursing or biomedical sciences, and to be honest, I kinda want to get the iPad Pro, but I just wanna be sure I'm making the right decision since it's a large investment and I want this device to last for a long time. Btw, have you guys used Microsoft Word on the iPad Pro? Does it work well? Does iPadOS make it better? [link] [comments] |
