- Is $900 too much for repair?? I own a Macbook Pro 15" 2018 model, with top specs (radeon pro vega 20, etc) I went to couple repair shops and they said the best option is to replace the whole screen (including the upper case), the lowest estimates I got from these places are $900 including tax.
- IPhone X has a black spot on rear camera
- IPhone 7 screen is half responsive. I.E: the TOP half of the screen does not respond to touch. The lines on the screen also appeared overnight. Would a screen replacement resolve this issue?

The replacement unit is now two months outside of the additional 90 days warranty and it's showing a faint black spot on all my pictures. It seems to be more frequent (currently once every three days, lasts for under an hour). I'll do all sorts of things, trying different backup networks, restarting router, restarting the computer. It's a mystery what helps because sometimes one thing does it, sometimes nothing helps and I wait... I cannot find a pattern as to when/why it does this. I work from home, teaching online. It seems that the frequency is increasing for the disconnect. Over the past three years, I have done as much troubleshooting and digging to make my computer run optimally. I'm at a loss! 154 GB available out of 250.79GB. It was lagging, so now I only use it in an a/c room with a laptop fan running under it. I almost always work with it tethered to a CAT6 ethernet. While I'm working, I only keep the necessary applications open- Chrome, my teaching software, webcam, webcam software, and my notes. When it disconnects, I have two backups: my phone hotspot and an internet stick (different wireless providers). However, it won't connect to those networks as well. Or, if it does it is a terrible, slow, lagging connection. Here's the thing- my husband will speed test on his phone (connected to our home wifi) and he'll have a ping of 2, sometimes three. I haven't used it as much as I should, but I'd like to get back to using for fun projects since I've been quarantined. However, when I sit down at it, it takes an unreasonably long time to open apps like safari or system preferences and perform basic tasks like trying to access Applications or Documents on the HD. I generally don't even bother with more advanced apps because the native Mac apps take so long to open. It will eventually open the but the time it needs to do so is ridiculous. The part is on Ebay for cheap, but getting someone to unsolder and resolder the new connector is proving difficult. I'm even considering buying a soldering iron and giving it a try myself, although the youtubes seem quite challenging. Or on the other hand, should I just buy a logic board off ebay instead? My sister has already gone to Apple Support and was told that the only way to resolve this is to either pay $100 for a part or $500 for a different part if that $100 part didn't work. Even when plugging in a headphone jack, it does not show up on System Preferences. Trying to adjust the volume does absolutely nothing. Somehow, her computer still recognizes BlueTooth so she can use BT headsets and mics. BlueTooth devices do show up when she connects to them and shows up in the Sound preferences. She does not have any USB related sound gear she can try so we don't know if that works. Things that she has tried to do to fix the issue: She has also tried to reset SMC and PRAM (worked temporarily, but has since stopped working), repeatedly insert and remove headphone from headphone jack. She then tried to upgrade to Catalina and that did nothing to fix the issue. She is wondering if this is an issue that cannot be fixed unless she pays to repair it, or if its some weird software issue. Pictures included. Please ask if you need more pictures. | Posted: 25 Apr 2020 10:46 PM PDT I have done all the resets and restarts that you can do It started doing this a few weeks ago and then it died and would not turn on for a week, It wouldnt charge for nearly a week but after plugging it in a few days later it turned back on very very slowly and everything was working. | Help me update my Crucial SSD firmware? Posted: 25 Apr 2020 06:28 PM PDT I have an crucial m4 ssd I put into my Macbook pro mid 2012 that recently started giving me problems - I discovered it has outdated firmware that was causing kernel panics and needs to be updated. I loaded Mojave on an old 2.5 7200 drive and I'm attempting to update but running into all kinds of problems. Crucial provides an .iso file for linux/Mac platform formatted as a cd iso provided@ https://www.crucial.com/support/ssd-support/m4-25-inch-support disk utility is not allowing me to write to an USB Stick saying that it's missing an master boot record - I've burned the cd to a dvd and attempted to start my Mac with C at startup but it just launches normally. after searching forever I finally found a tool that allows me to burn the iso to the USB Stick called balena etcher -- after burning the usb in 4 different ways, taking apart the iso, using terminal to convert the iso to dmg, then trying to burn it to cd, extracting the boot2880.img from the firmware iso to burn that directly, nothing is bootable holding the option key on startup. The only resource I've found that seems to be able to point me in the right direction is this website stating use rEFIt to launch legacy mode of Syslinux and use a tool to update the firmware-- found here https://fuerstnet.de/post/2013-02-23-upgrade-crucial-m4-ssd-firmware-mac-without-cd/ but the provided refit link doesn't exist anymore and it seems to me that refit and Syslinux are seperate software at the moment -- I have burned an refit usb that boots and attempted to read the usb iso I've burned but when booting to the efi legacy os it doesn't see anything ... One end of the cable attaches to the board top and the other to the drive. 1) I don't want to completely take out the logic board. can I just tilt it a little? 2) After installation and formatting of the drive, what is the best way to copy the contents of the current 1TB drive to the SSD? 3) If the OS is patched via a patcher tool does this make a difference? 4) can you add a recovery partition to a patched OS hard drive? | Posted: 25 Apr 2020 08:09 PM PDT My son was out jogging and tripped. His iPhone 11 went flying out his pocket and the screen shattered on the concrete. We wanted to get the phone fixed as soon as possible, and all Apple Stores are closed. So, we went the third party route. A place 5 minutes from my house said they could fix the screen for $180 and that FaceID would still work, since the camera and all its sensors remain untouched. When I got to the store, the guy says that before he does the repair; he has to warn me that the iPhone will complain that a Genuine Apple Screen is not installed on the phone after every reboot, but it eventually will go away, after 3-4 reboots. I opted to not go through with the repair, and we are instead mailing the phone back to Apple for a screen replacement. Some questions:
And, YES, I know about tempered glass screen protectors. When he got the phone back in September, there were no iPhone 11 screen protectors that we could find. And then I forgot about it. It looks like the XR screen protectors are the same size, so I have to order one from Amazon. For my XR I used the Anker screen protector, and it seemed to go well. When you go on the website it gives you the option to choose a carrier or an unlocked phone . So i have Metro by Tmobile , if i were to choose tmobile as the carrier would i be able to just switch it over to metro as theyre kind of the same thing ? Only reason i dont buy the iphone unlocked is because youd have to pay it in full and im only looking to lease not pay all 700$ . I have to keep it on the power cord or the battery drains to 50% in about 30 minutes and then dies at around 50%. Apart from that, everything else is great - no scratches, no cracks, I even have the original box and packaging. | Posted: 25 Apr 2020 06:58 PM PDT I have the iphone 6 and sister has 6s. I noticed my data speeds were much slower when I used her phone so I did some testing. I swapped sim cards and still was the same. My phone was getting same slow data speeds with her sim card and her phone was working well with my sim card. So it isnt the sim card like some said it affects reception if its damaged. Is the iphone 6s antenna longer or what? She gets 10-12 mbps and I do 3-4 mbps. [link] [comments]  |
