Brand new MacBook Air already getting hot - what can I do?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 10:28 AM PDT

I have around 5 tabs open, a few other apps like notes and it's already hot and the fans are on. It's one day old.

Should I send it back and reorder an i5 professor ? I'm not sure I'm going to be able to study on it if it's already getting to hot on seriously low intensity tasks?

EDIT: It's i3, I'm using it on my desk and using safari.

Please help! MacBook Pro 2017 13” A1708 display failure

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 11:17 PM PDT

My MacBook Pro's screen has completely failed for no reason. The diagnostic report says that "the display has failed and needs to be replaced" and will cost $899 for a "screen replacement". I don't really know what this means hence the quotation marks, but I'm really just wondering if it would still work if I bought a screen and plugged it into the screen?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

    MacBook Air 2020 keyboard

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 12:42 PM PDT

Anyone know if the MacBook Air 2020 has the same keyboard as any other MacBook? Looking for a keyboard cover but can't find one anywhere. I know keyboard covers aren't good for the screen but I take it off before closing the MacBook so it's fine

MacBook Pro fan full speed on turn on

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 03:19 PM PDT

Hey there. So the last few days I felt like my MacBook Pro (2015, 13" retina) was really heating.

Today I opened it up. Took apart my fan and cleaned it. I then put everything back together, but now the sec I turn my MacBook Pro on, the fan starts running on full speed.

I tried resetting my SMC but no luck there. Then I used an app who told my my cpu was running at 104°c. (Which it obviously is not since I just turned it on)

Diagnostic mode ('D' + powerOn) shows no problem.

Do you guys have an idea what can I Do?

    New Macbook Pro?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 04:34 PM PDT

I recently bought a macbook air 2020 and im concerned over the heating issues and all the negative comments im seeing about it. I know i have two weeks to return it, so my question is:

When is an estimate date that the new macbook pro "14" will come out? They say its coming out this month but i would like to know when.

If i dont like my macbook air i could easily switch to the pro. My new air cost me $1,500. Do you think i can buy the new macbook pro with that same money?

Macbook Pro 2017 13" getting hot all the time

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 06:23 PM PDT

So I've seen a couple of posts on here relevant to this issue, but not quite exactly what I need.

So 1. I get that the aluminium case getting hot is part of the cooling system, so that's fine

    1. The CPU is getting shithot whilst barely doing anything. If I'm just on a call with my girlfriend on Opera (not chrome, fuck chrome) the CPU will get to like 80C and the fans will go mental. I know that CPUs can run at 80 but literally all I have open is 2 opera windows.

    2. The memory can't handle shit (I have 8GB). I use Logic Pro X fairly often, and I'll only have to use a couple of plugins before the weird noises start happening, which is usually because of not enough RAM. And obviously it gets really hot and the fans go mad.

Any help would be great, thanks a lot from the UK.

Is it worth waiting for the rumored ARM based Macbook

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 01:08 PM PDT

Hey guys so I had my eyes on the 2020 Macbook Air and was going to purchase it soon but with the new rumors of an ARM based Macbook, its making me want to wait. Battery life and performance is whats important to me especially the battery life part and I know with the ARM processors, battery would be amazing because I hear the new 2020 Macbook Air has slightly worse battery than predecessors. Do you think its worth waiting for the new ARM based macbook or do you think just pulling the trigger on the 2020 macbook air is a better choice. Thanks

mixing different ram sizes on a mid-2012 mbp

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 01:03 PM PDT

hi, I'm tuning my gf's mid 2012 macbook pro, because she complained that her macbook was too slow.

the machine in question had only 4gb of ram, and a hdd, so I chose to buy a 8gb stick, but I'm having second thoughts. Is it any good to keep one of the 2gb sticks, and put the 8gb for a total of 10? or is it better to take both out and only leave the 8gb one?

I have heard that a smaller stick could bottleneck the bigger one, but I'm not sure, plus, the mbp recognize a 8gb and a 2gb one together. any tips?

Macbook Air or Macbook Pro 16 or iMac

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 05:10 AM PDT

I have been a Windows user for almost two decades and am now wanting to switch to Mac OS.

I am confused if I should buy the Macbook Air or Macbook Pro 16 or iMac. I have an old iPad Air 2 and love Apple devices but haven't find the need to buy more Apple products since I find them expensive. I am getting bored of the Windows and Android ecosystem so wanting to try a new OS altogether - I love iPad OS based devices but I prefer a laptop / desktop sort of device based on Mac OS only.

My main use would be for browsing and watching / editing 4k media at times.

    My mixed questions are:

    • While I understand iMac is desktop only, I am wondering if Macbook Air will suffice my needs or go for a bigger portable screen by buying Macbook Pro 16 but it's super expensive. To save on money, I can buy the 21 inch 4k iMac but it will lack portability.
    • Would 256 GB on a Macbook Air or Pro 16 be enough and I am planning to buy portable drives for additional storage.
    • Would 8GB RAM be enough if I buy the 2020 Macbook Air with the default 256GB storage or should I consider 16GB RAM.
    • Can I use my WD Portable drive (Windows) to watch media files on Mac OS? Likewise can WD portable drives for Mac be connected to an LG 4k Smart TV to watch media files stored in it.
    • I live in a country which has no Apple stores, so I am planning to buy from Apple website directly which ships to my country. What is the warranty offered?

    Thanks for any inputs.

    Base Model Macbook Air 2020

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 09:51 AM PDT

I got the base model Macbook Air with the i3, 8GB, 256GB and I am quite happy doing university stuff and light photo editing with fans kicking in. Other than that, I am happy with everything. Playing Slay the Spire in 720p works fine and macbook stays quiet all the time. Keybord is great, screen as well, speakers are amazing for netflix and co.

My concerns are that the macbook could not be enough power for the next two years as all the sites and videos say it isn't future proved...

What do you guys think? Was it a bad decision?

Is there a way to display the current network name in the menu bar?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 09:17 AM PDT

I have various networks in my home for different purposes. Occasionally, I can't access certain things since I'm not on the right network and it'd be convenient to be able to see which one I'm on without clicking the network settings.

Thinking about upgrading a MacBook Pro 13inch Mid 2009. Help with some questions?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 08:00 AM PDT

Was thinking of upgrading from the Harddrive to an SSD. What brand SSD should I buy? Looking for something that can speed up the MacBook and can offer at least 240gb

It also has 8gb ram (1066mhz). I know it can only support 8gb but can I put ram that is (1333mhz or 1666mhz) if that improves speed?

Sorry if my questions sound retarded.. the MacBook was a hand me down from my cousin and I want to speed it up a lot because it becomes extremely slow
